I wouldn't risk it. You're probably better off getting a new HS/fan anyway so that you know it's in tip-top condition...not clogged with dust etc.
I got a new copper heatsink and fan for my Athlon XP 2200+ at CompUSA for 20 bucks.
Subject says it all. I don't feel like buying a new HS/F combo.
The CPU won't be overclocked or anything. I've heard the XP line actually runs cooler than the Athlon line... is that true?

I did it and it worked ok for me. When I got the h/s for my 1.2 Ghz, it was one of those with a copper middle, which was sort of overkill for the 1.2G. When I upgraded to the 2400+, I was a little nervous but that was almost a year ago and it's A-ok ever since.
The magic word is Copper.
:D
Yeah, I never would have gone with a copper h/s for the 1.2. In fact, I did not go with the copper h/s right off.Originally Posted by SpoofyChop
I went with another but had an accident installing the cpu and broke the clip for the cpu socket. I got the copper h/s because it had a different kind of harness.
