You know when this game is awesome? When you play a random internet guy, beat him, and then he keeps rematching you, and you keep beating him, until finally on the fourth game he forfeits after you Reclamax the Hedron Cannon.
I could almost hear the sound of an iPhone being hurled across the room, through the intertubes.
Of course, when that happens to me, it's not as fun ;). But I don't usually keep rematching four times in a row if someone beats me.
It's possible he wanted to learn by playing someone who clearly had a better grasp on the game then him? But then got tired of being the whipping boy.
I wish the game had a chat function so you could at least get an insight into what people are thinking, taunt, or curse them as appropriate.
I finally caved. I fear that I am going to be so far behind those of you that literally have 100's of games under your belt that I will get mercilessly pummeled. I'm gonna practice against the A.I. a bit more and then start challenging some folks. And only THEN will I allow myself to get pummeled as is appropriate.
Will probably go to the league thread and start adding Gamecenter fiends (intentional) from there if I do not already have you in my roster.

4 Questions
- Is my occasional slow down common when the A.I. takes a turn? I actually had a game completely freeze once. Shut down Ascension restarted and reloaded and it was still frozen.
- Do most people and under what circumstances do you leave runes on the table and end your turn?
- There are a lot of banishment cards. Is that to thin your deck of the 1 rune/1 power cards or just generally in conjunction with other cards?
- I should probably go ahead and buy that second charger cord to keep with me at all times, shouldn't I?
1. You must be playing in a style the AI has never seen before. Join the league!
2. Most people don't leave runes unspent, but then, they have not adopted Tiger Style.
3. Mostly to thin your deck, although there is at least one card that gives a reward if banished.
4. Absolutely.
Yeah, that's me. Bleeding edge. It is hard for me to find time to play live, but I'll give it a shot after a little more practice.
Yea, the only card I remember gains you 2 or 3 honor if banished from your hand or discard. Wasn't sure if there were any more.

Welcome Ty! And, don't worry about having free time to play Ascension. Once you start playing, you will have no free time at all and you will be hopelessly addicted.
However, the good news is that each move only takes about 5 seconds and you can pretty much ignore the fact that you are going to be making 1,000,000 moves a day in trying to figure out why you get nothing, absolutely nothing, done in your life.
My co-worker sitting across from me at an audit may have something to say..but I am a supervisor, so I don't do any of the work anyway, amirite?
ANd believe me, all the Basketball I missed watching with my nose buried in my phone is proof that my free time has already been sucked into an black Ascension hole.

A few addendums for Tyjenks:
1. I've seen slow down a couple of times versus the AI, but not to the degree you're describing. Are you rocking an original iPad?
2. "Tiger Style" means* that sometimes its better not to clog your deck with cards just because you can, especially when you're trying to get other cards to come up as much as possible (see: the Henge Queen, a.k.a. FHQ).
3. Yes, primarily to clear Apprentices and Militia, which are not only low rune/power but also add no honor points to your deck.
4. I would suggest two extra chargers in case one of them shorts out.
*I have no idea what "Tiger Style" means.
I don't see why accounting, auditing and Ascension don't mix well! Then again, I am in the last month of my employment here at Deloitte and not much is expected of me so I get to play all the Ascension I like.
I will cut back during work hours when I start my new job in May.
I think you will be able to keep a number of games going with a pretty minimal time investment Ty. You can set the length of the games (we typically go with 3 or 7 days) so there is no real pressure on playing it all out in real time. Though, it is nice to play games that way when you can because the continuity helps to learn the nuances of the game better than picking them up and putting them down many times before the game concludes.
What's nice too is it's an excellent game for those many times during the day when you find a few minutes here or there. Commuting (though, not if you are driving, this I cannot recommend). Waiting in line. Waiting at an appointment. Watching a sports game (especially during the stupid commercials). I would say even in Stall #3 at work, except, the reception isn't good in there and I wouldn't want to scare you off the game, it's not like it will occupy your every waking thought. See ya, I think somebody just made a move!
Justin Fletcher does not know Tiger Style because he still plays Crane Style like the tutorial teaches.

Actually, I am on an iPhone 4. I have not upgraded to whatever the latest software version is, if that makes a difference. Lazy.
EDIT: In my head, I kept thinking you DID get honor points for Apprentices and Militias, but that is because I never separated them from the Mystics and Heavy Infantry. I guess I really never looked at the bottom of them to note there was no honor there. Well, this changes things!!! Now my losses will be by less!
Ty, you realized this about two weeks earlier than I did. I think maybe Deforrestation, or maybe Dave, clued me in that Militia and Apprentices aren't counted in your deck at the end.
What's this about Apprentices and Militia that they don't count for honor?

After running my battery down and losing for the 4th time I finally win a 54 - 49 low scoring affair, I can safely say that my poor kids are getting waved off and being made to cook their own dinner.
I had planned to "wait and see" before buying the expansion, but that did not even last until my first game against a reall person on Day 1.
Perfect.
It's how we roll. First we gives you a little taste, gratis, then we got you by the short hairs. There are a lot of children going hungry, but they need to learn to fend for themselves @ some point.
Immortal Heroes, the expansion for Storm of Souls set was just announced for this Summer. If their strategy is to keep the latest and greatest expansion only available as the physical game, that means we would could potentially see a Storm of Souls expansion to the iOS game this Summer as well.

I'm also hoping they update the app with "new iPad" retina display graphics. Unfortunately with the stretching it looks (to me) worse than it did on an iPad 2.
My phone slows Ascension to a crawl for a little while as it connects to GC and grabs the names of everyone in my active games. Then it's smooth.
Also, what's all this 5 second move nonsense! I need time, dammit.
Oh and xtien? That last game, your final turn, I was watching your HP rack up, and up, and up, and up... but thankfully my massive HP hand won out! Stressful! That game was like collecting Pokemon there for a while.
So will the expansions just continue to add to the deck? Will it not eventually make for a bloated common deck or just more variety?
I realize you can pick which to play, I am just wondering what people who have played The Real Thing are doing now that the newest expansion has come out.
From what I understand, Chronicle of the Godslayer and Return of the Fallen are best played as a set, and then Storm of Souls + expansion are another set.
I wouldn't be terribly surprised if Storm of Souls came out as a $4.99 standalone app, but IAP for Chronicle would also work.
Yes, that is correct Diddums. I didn't realize that and bought all three physical sets when I really just needed to buy Storm of Souls to get a different experience from the iOS game.

Dumb question, but I preferred the Chronicle of the Godslayer title screen over the Return of the Fallen title screen. Is there a way to go back to CotG screen after you've bought the RotF IAP?
You're not kidding! What you were witnessing there was my early Tablet of Time's Dawn investment almost paying off...but not quite. I think it turned out 101-93 for you ("massive HP hand" is right; I think it was 77). That last turn brought the score closer than I expected. Well done sir.
I have a question I hope somebody here can answer. I think I've had a couple of games just up and disappear. Can anybody explain that? Can folks just back out of games without you being notified in some way? Am I going nuts? Not that those things are mutually exclusive, but I'm sure I've lost a couple of games and I can't figure out what's going on.
