I dunno, I love the iPhone as much as anyone but with my old flip phone to quick dial the one number I used the most I would open the phone and hold down 1 and it dials.

Even with Siri it takes at least 15 seconds to tell the phone to dial my wife (my most used number, natch) because the voice stuff does not work that well and sometimes I have to say the name twice, or pick one of two contacts with the same first name or whatever.

I think it is reasonable to gripe that quick-dial is slower.

Of course, that's really the only thing that's worse. Except maybe the thing where I could drop kick my old phone up the sidewalk by accident with no real consequences.

Except the quick-dial analogue is Favorites, which is super-easy:

    Click the Phone icon
Tap on a name listed in Favorites

Hard to get much quicker than that. And unlike flip-phone quick dials, you don't have to remember who's on which number...

You forgot "slide to unlock, type passcode..."

To be fair, apparently someone set my phone up so I can say "call my wife" and it happens. So I was wrong anyway.

I think I'll get flamed for saying this, but I found the iPhone to be inferior to the bb when it comes to performing as a phone! I am surprised myself.

As I have the new iPad, I do not use the iPhone for apps. The iPhone is only used for texting and calling. In those regards, I find myself sorely missing the qwerty keyboard on my bb.

A very simple thing that annoys me very much, calling my contact. On my bb, i just spelt out my contact's name on the qwerty. I get a list, scroll with thumb and click.
On the iphone, I have to swipe, type on the onscreen keyboard, type go and then touch the contact to call. Horrible way to call.

The iPhone is great with apps and so on. But when it comes to actual calling and texting, the bb with it's qwerty form factor is still better in my opinion.

But I don't regret my decision to drop the bb. Dont want to give my money monthly to an idiotically mismanaged company as rei has helpfully pointed out. Just kinda tragic that the qwerty form factor will die, through no fault of itself.
You want a qwerty keyboard on your iphone but don't want to change its form factor? Here you go, you're welcome.

No developers haven't lost interest in our non-existent vaporware -- just you wait, we're building...something...at some undetermined point in time in the future.

RIM is so fucking incompetent they've dropped some hints that they will ....ANNOUNCE their next vague upcoming products at the "same time." What. The. Fuck. RIM. Shut up and deliver.

Another interesting tidbit is what Heins says about carriers. He believes that due to RIM’s existing relationships with hundreds of carriers around the world, the launch of BB10 is poised to challenge what he calls the “Samsung/Apple duopoly,” something he says they do not like very much. RIM has always been willing to work with carriers to push custom apps or promotions, and has created a niche market for low-cost providers with the Curve series. Samsung and Apple are seen as exerting too much influence on carriers, which limits customization to the hardware and software.
Fuck you, RIM. You want to suck up to the carriers to let them fuck over customers with their phone customizations and gimping. Of course, carriers don't like it when they don't get their way.

Well, I for one enjoy rei updating us on RIM's latest fail-boat.

That said, yes, rei is coming across fairly one-sided. ;)

I enjoy the updates too. And it's not like there is another side to this unfolding tragedy. Is there?

I would imagine there is - RIM fanboys. But more grimly, RIM employees.

A friend-of-a-friend is a RIM employee, and it's depressing to hear the snippets of news. I don't think I can pass any of it along, sorry.

I doubt you'll find an honest positive opinion from most employees. Remember that even before their collapse, executives were writing open letters about how awful the decision-making process was and how they couldn't get anything done.

Posting from IBrowse on AmigaOS4.1r4, but I probably wouldn't base my business infrstructure on using it.

I wonder how many of them will wind up getting crushed by the receivers after the company goes bankrupt? Perhaps they will be sold in bulk at a huge discount to be stripped for parts by some Shan Zhai firm.

Is it still possible to make any money from betting against them at this late date? Short in regular stock, or options? Let us know how it goes :)

    $550? Good grief.

The Nexus 7 is $200 and has a better OS. $350 for LTE, 16 MB and a better camera isn't going to bring people to the table if the original Playbook tanked.

I would cue the laugh track if it wasn't so gorram sad.

RIM is on drugs. That's the only explanation for the $550 price tag.

Some of us have dealt with RIM's crappy support issues for years while they were top dog in the market and we had no choice but to accept it. Now that the market has shifted and RIM is toppling, you bet we're enjoying the show.

I bought put options in March, and they have appreciated a lot. I have sold enough to break even and profit a little, and am letting the rest keep growing (playing with the house's money). The Sept options are up 275% and the Jan options are up 164%. The only risk I am worried about is that someone may seriously speculate or announce a buyout of the company, which could create a price spike that would erase half of those gains overnight.

They'll probably arrange for truckloads of them to be "stolen" so they can write them off. You've got to wonder what they are thinking...
