    Hugin

Gentlemen, we have a problem. I am in New York City all month, working on the ABC News medical desk. I have a laptop and wifi, but I don't have one thing: Dominions. I somehow forgot to install it or take the CD when I left. I won't be back until August 1st. I only see three choices:

    (1) Put the game on hold for a month. Not an option.

    (2) Get a replacement player to play Atlantis. I am fine with that if we can get someone.

    (3) Some q23 denizen of New York who owns Dominions can meet me and lend me his/her CD to install it on my laptop.

My sincere apologies for this messup. In leaving for NYC it just completely slipped my mind. Today's turn reminder, uh, reminded me.

I might be visiting NYC this Friday/Saturday, and could bring you my disk, but it'll cost you a beer.

Yeah. Some nations just seem easier to figure out than others.

Frankly, I'm frightened at how fast my test games are over.

Sleipnir - Agartha, a morbid curiousity

    Woohoo! I'm dead!

Now that that's out of the way, my gameplan from the start was to be the bastard that cast utterdark and threw pennies in the theatre that was the world.

Though it didn't work out like I planned, I had a good time, and thought I gave a good fight against scribble. That all said, the one nation I didnt want to face early was Marignon - which had nothing to do with Scribble, but rather that I felt he had the biggest yang to my ying. My plan was to start off building up blindfighters, slowly morph into a death/blind thing, then shock and awe with utterdark. I think i threw scribble a bit of a curve when he hit the blindfighters - i think he was expecting undead, but the bf's slow and quite methodical(man, i hate mapmove 1), and i couldn't establish the base I needed to support the upcoming....um, apocalypse

Not saying it was my best plan...

GL all (and congrats Scribble ;)

I asked scribble to add 1000 hours or so to the next turn so you don't stale another one. Hopefully DP can get you what you need soon.

I increased the timer for Hugin and will keep an eye on the situation. I missed the discussion upthread, which unfortunately caused Atlantis to stale the current turn. Hopefully wasn't too painful.

I'll let you know if I can come! I'm a little leery of visiting the city during a heat wave. Ugh.

Next week. Planned start is for the 16th. I'm traveling and wasn't sure if I would have/will have internet access.

I like for folks to have time to test drive their strategies. Certainly folks like Pythia with all kinds of toys to play with have to make choices.

Re: Trunk, since we're 8 players, do y'all still think 3 caps is a good victory condition? It might make for a Qt3anon-like experience.

I think the idea would be that it would not be automatically adjudicated, but rather someone could "claim victory" and have it verified with a turn file, not an auto win condition.

I have very real reservations that holding three capitols for two full turns is still not the victory condition that I'm after, but as the host I don't want to be the one leading the parade for a change. 8 nations on a map that seems to really constrict mobility.

In my test games, the games have been won very quickly and I have never really had a border with more than 4 countries, leaving some out. I think instead of a full out king of the hill, you need to think of this condition as a race. Less dogpiling on the leader and more picking off your weakest neighbors.

The game has not been set in stone. If you have an opinion please voice it and I'll take it into account.

This is the sort of game that goes against my normal playstyle.. I'll have to really try hard to go against form on this..

i fine with the auto win on 3 caps - worked out well in Munin.

It did work well in Munin, but there's a difference between a 6-player game and an 8-player game. Whoever gets three caps in the former is fairly likely to win the whole thing, in an 8-player game that's far less certain. Not having to worry about dealing with the superpower on the other side of the map and just focusing on taking down the two weakest neighbours makes for a different game. Might still be an interesting game, but quite different from any game I've played in.

We could always up the capital count to four. 50% and all.

Isn't that what Newbies was set to? Eight players and four capitals? I thought that game took too long, myself. Just my opinion, though, of course!

That was 7 players and 4 capitals to win.
