You meant Matt. I haven't staled a turn. However, I'm a non-factor in this game and if the general consensus is putting this travesty to rest, I'm fine with that. Consider me out of the decision making process. I'll keep submitting turns until you guys figure out if you're actually going to play or not.

Tenuki, I think you killed...um, 4. Or so...
I was impressed with my heavy infantry's ability to just stand there for a while and deflect spider bites. My stupid shortbow gobbos won't stay behind the lines due to their ridiculously short range and got chewed up a bit. Most of the casualties were already dead, though. My skelli spam was less than impressive, but it did fill the gaps. Flaming arrows were what did the most damage...some to my own troops, too, though.

    Crooked Trunk

Van jumped Pan, because they can, man. I am a fan of that plan.

Van sure has a ton of provinces...and income...and gem income...and research.

    Trifles.

Losing against F9N9 spiders was easy. It's gonna be much more of a challenge against these two strange bedfellows.

Well, once Machaka is finished off, I'm sure the other nations will be itching for their next war. We're going to settle in for Robin Hood style archery contests in the mountains. Cuz we're barely managing to hit these giant spiders. Training time!

Machaka still has Eriu's capitol. Nobody has beat the spiders when they had their bless on. I'm just sayin, it isn't DONE yet.

Actually, I was before. I knew Machaka had an assassin threat, and prepared for it - what I didnt know was that victims turned into soulless warriors that fought against the original commander. Also didnt know that Air shield apparently doesn't effect Bolas (or he got a lucky role, hard to tell given the evidence).

The assassination mechanic is one of the few areas that Dom3 does poorly. I like its inclusion, but it really needs an alternate commander order menu(in the case some rando is trying to kill you - do this) or at the very least removing certain conditions from the combat (ie, if retreat = death, just remove the ability for commanders to retreat so they dont die just because they've been scripted to retreat)

Well. I find assassination a pretty minor mechanic. It can be effective once in a while. But once you give away you have it, you've lost the initiative.

I don't disagree, but it's still silly in a game that prides itself on 'making sense' that my winged commander was successfully assassinated by a ground crawler (that was 30 yards away) when he saw his bodyguard go down and failed his morale check.

Haha. Discussing sillly mechanics in Dom3 can go on forever. As KO and JK say, it's WAD (working as designed). I kind of gave up a long time ago. If it's moddable awesome. But if it's not, like assassinations, you just live with it. Try modding the casting AI to keep it from doing stupid things like spamming animate dead with D5 magi. There are two mod projects kind of on the back burner to fix that sort of crap. The classic was touch of madness in vanilla. Stupid N3 magi would spam it and berserk themselves. So QM made it cost a gem in CBM.

I don't think Dom3 "makes sense". You should see the crazy stuff folks have discovered code diving. And JK has admitted he sometimes doesn't even rememeber how a mechanic works the code is so old. But I love the quirkiness of Dom3. I find it fun. Still, mods that fix obvious stuff rock. It's why I can't be arsed to play vanilla.

...or D1 mages stubbornly animating single skeletons to fight a Harbinger who is perfectly well in range for ghost grip. (Sleipnir)

This fix I neatly disabled in Trunk by giving my Pans gems before sending them to fight your spiders. They each touch-of-madnessed 20 centaur longbowmen who were intended to run away when the chaff was dead. 880 gold gone poof.

Well, live and learn. Or rather, watch your stuff die and learn.

Dudes. I'm going camping. I'll have email but I'd be grateful if you can watch Crooked Trunk in case I'm about to stale. I'll do my best to keep up. I don't want to sub. It's too precious :)

No, I mean more 'makes sense' in the practical sense. You cant cast fire magic underwater, nor does drowning underwater work. In general, they did a great job of fleshing out a magical world in a way that is realistic, if that's the proper word to use in a fantasy setting.

Few game combat systems care to establish something like defense versus protection. It's why in Dom a half naked barbarian can survive, and might even prosper, but can't even exist in a place like wow. I cant think of another game which even has a mechanic to deal with weapon length, yet alone shield hits.

That's why this feels wrong to me.

That, and you killed two high seraphs :)

    Hey all,

I will be away this weekend subbing as a bass player in a friend's band. The request came on short notice, meaning I will need to spend the next three nights learning the set and rehearsing.

I can do a turn for CT (Pan is pretty user friendly), but the situation in Sleipnir is too complicated. With your kind permission, I will postpone hosting until early next week.

I'm going to be gone for a week, with about a 50% chance of being able to play my Crooked Trunk turns. Isn't M gone as well? Just a thought that we might take the timer off for the week.

"Calculus and its Origins", "Is Literary History Possible?", "How to Sell Your Home By Owner", "Romanticism and Animal Rights" -- you seem to be well versed in a lot of topics!

    Which one is it?

p.s. Definitely going to stale this turn unless the timer is delayed. I probably cannot play any turns during the next three days. Apologies!

    It's the calc book.
Kid1 does not have it yet.
    Timer is delayed.

That is something I'd pick up at a bookstore without even looking at the TOC.

How old is your kid? Or are you kidding me? (No pun intended.)
