Yeah, not featured on the front page of any of the locale markets, not even as a news item. You have to go digging to find it.

This is happening. Major Nelson's blog has an article up that confirms it (although it avoids mentioning any details). I went through the press materials for the BUILD conference and couldn't find any mention of this, so I guess that shows how committed/focused Microsoft is?

Word is that they'll take a 0% cut in the Windows app store as well -- very exciting.

I seem to remember some years ago(10, 15 years?) Bill Gates said that his vision was a future where people no longer had all those different devices around the house - it was all connected to one system controlling phone, television, games, internet even the house. And of course, it was Microsoft software bringing it all together.

    He's getting closer and closer.

It consistently fails to login and dumps me to desktop when playing Chaos Rising with my buddy.

    I hate it very much.

    GfWL?

I'd buy something there if using the store wasn't sort of like getting cock slapped by a walrus. I tried to buy Age 3 on there for a while, eventually gave up. Had to sign up for like four things, do this, login to that.

Just fucking let Steam handle it and continue humping the moneybox.

Xbox Live also brings with it a whole bunch of hacks and crappy CSR... which GFWL accounts already deal with.

XBOX Live on Windows, XBOX Live on windows Phone, Microsoft seems to want to make XBOX Live name a hardware independent service which makes sense in this cloud future.

They're just going to change the banner picture on top. The rest of GfWL/XBox Live for Windows will remain as sucky as before.

Nah, they locked me out of my game that I bought so I couldn't save in campaign mode with my online profile. Refused to activate it for me because I had installed too many times arbitrarily.

360 games cannot work on Windows x86, the emulation requirement would be to big. What they can do is have, and what is seems they are going to do is to have the new X360 dashboard as a Metro app on Windows8. So instead of the disjointed GFW interface in each game it would be more like Steam. Also this probably include the other services like video and music. I don't think that they will try to make it a payed service again, and that primarily games for tablet interfaces will be the ones to adopt Xbox Live on Windows.

Hey, guess what Microsoft? My games, music, movies and TV shows are already on my "Windows device", aka PC.

I wonder if my 10 cents Age of Empires 3 license will carry over from GfWL to XLoW?

There was a session at BUILD were they they talked about Xbox Live on Windows 8.

My understanding is that the Live backbone service is the same for every platform, but not every platform as access to all functionalities.

Xbox Live development platform requires Windows 8, for previous versions I suppose that the GFWL implementation will continue to be supported. This will probably be a tough sell initially because developers will have to build two versions of the game if they what Xbox Live and Windows 7 compatibility. Smaller games for tablets will probably be the first to adopt it. Pinball FX 2 was showed running, expect that Arcade games will also make the jump early.

You know, the biggest intimation that change is coming is that the branding is completely different. It's now Xbox LIVE not "Games for Windows" Live. The web marketplace has been eaten up by Xbox.com, which is also under new management.

I don't have any special insight into any of this (despite working at Microsoft Studios), but I am hopeful that we will be hearing some more positive news in the coming months.

We all know what this really means is just that unless you're a paying for the GOLD or FAMILY service Microsoft shits on you as a 'customer' and pees on your 'stupid' not-their-console machine.

I would like to see microsoft use this to create a standardized xbox pc, that comes with mouse/keybaord/controller. Make it easy to game for the people that prefer that with a standardized windows 8- xboxlive interface. The net effect being pc returned as the primary gaming platform to the benefit of everyone involved.

The general feedback is that having Microsoft involved is highly favorable for users because, at the end of the day, it will provide more games to users, support a more reliable, compatible and robust experience, and deliver it at a better price.
Reading stuff like this...there are no words.

If not, we should call DEA to raid MS offices :)
