That's a great goddamn line
This happens in LOTRO everyday? Why is this such a big deal?
What happens in LOTRO every day? Massive protests and threadnaughts? Or do you mean microtransactions? Because in a game built around a player economy where pretty much everything is part of the global PVP environment, paying real money to magic stuff into existence to give you an ingame benefit is the worst idea ever.
Particularly in a game that is already subscription-based.
Particularly when you've already sworn you'd never go down that path.
No-one gives a toss about vanity items, although CCP's idea of pricing is insulting. They don't affect gameplay.
Because they lied about it, because pay for power is lame, and because it's a pvp game in a sandbox.
Also lolotr
Real EVE shirt cheaper than EVE Online in-game shirt! http://bit.ly/lwWzlt
For the price of their monocle they should ship a REAL monocle while giving your character a digital one. That would be sweet =)
Ta for quotes - keep them coming. I am curious what the threats are from the NPCs though?
Just generic "You are engaging in criminal acts" ones, Calistas.
I can get the Lol LotRO when it's compared to Eve. Using what happens in LotRO as an example for Eve is ridiculous. But that's because LotRO is the complete opposite of Eve. Both are good games. LotRO is the best PVE experience I have come across, I enjoyed running quests and fighting the Lord of the Rings baddies, the community would go out of their way to help you, and the scripted story was incredibly enjoyable to read/be a part of. Eve is the best PVP experience, bar none, it has nothing to do with quests, the community while great can never be trusted, and the scripted events and missions are more boring than grinding in WoW.
What works for LotRO would destroy Eve.
The "threatening messages" I see may just be normal messages that I don't recognize because I don't play much eve. I guess I was just hoping for more fireworks.
Looks like my feed lost connection. Kicked? Banned? Jita down? Wires cut by Ninjas?
Edit: It came back up a minute later, nevermind. Ninjas averted.

You've logged on in the middle of a mass protest and you're wondering why the player count is high?
Yes and no. Every game has its share of "THATS IT I QUIT" types who don't actually do it, but from what I can tell there are people cancelling in droves this time. These "temper tantrums" are also not just pissing in the wind - if you remember the T20 fiasco you'll remember how the threadnaughts made it impossible for CCP to ignore. Also, isn't it true that EVE players are known for their temper tantrums and idle threats? Just saying.
I've only played the trial to Eve a few times. It's a game that I really want to like but one I just can't get into. Point being, I know enough of the game to know that selling actual game content like ships and ammo for real money would be a terrible, terrible thing for the game. I cannot fathom how such a concept was improved of internally.
As I understand it (and all of this is conjecture with a few nod-nod wink-winks from people apparently in the know), CCP are slightly over the barrel financially and need to do something drastic in order to fund their future projects and pay people who've given them money.
In short, they're trying to monetise the game more than it is now, only they're doing it incredibly badly and because they feel under real pressure they're willing to go to desperate lengths. The new blog post almost confirms it for me - they're desperate to go ahead with these plans because that's what they think they need to do, player base be damned.
The CSM guys were consulted over the blog and gave their feedback. They're now gobsmacked that the blog was posted almost unchanged. Seleene, who used to work at CCP, has spoken in the past of the "unreality bubble" (I think that was the term) that CCP exists in, a self-perpetuating bullshit cycle that doesn't get punctured by a balanced outside perspective.
Do people think the internal memo wasn't as stated, an attempt to stir internal discussion? If the author was playing devil's advocate I feel pretty bad for the guy.
The "discussion" is two slightly exaggerated viewpoints, then a "this is the direction we're taking" section. From what I've read these newsletters are usually like this - it's an internal mouthpiece, not a real discussion vector. It's a typical corporate ploy.
Well, I unsubscribed, and wrote as a reason that I couldn't afford 60 dollar monocles.
That will teach them!
Hope you put something in there about the ship and faction, MT. I unsubbed as well, citing that as the reason.
Edit: Haha, ascii fail whales in chat.
Thanks JM, I am stuck on the iPhone so checking dox is hard.
Failheap tends to have the best info. Must admit I've been impressed with what current and ex CSM members have been coming out with.
Anyway, bedtime for me.
Apparently CCP sent the navy against the protesters?
00:07:58 Notify You have entered Caldari space protesters. Since you have proven to be an enemy to our people, you will be terminated!
CCP is shooting the protesters.
edit: AH TROLLED. Not actually happening.
Caldari Navy ones can, but apparently it's just a message being spammed by a dude with an alt named Protesters. He's convoing people on undock with that. Hilarious, but a troll.
http://www.glassdoor.com/Reviews/CCP...ws-E159347.htm
This, however, is real. Apparently CCP employees are unhappy. Dunno how much of it is BS, but it's there and passes the sniff test.
edit:
Ok, wow, that link is depressing. And it's definitely real, several of the reviews are from well before this started. Apparently all the stuff the players bitch about are also the case inside the company itself. Not. Good.
edit:
So now the crusade has taken a slightly different tone. It's not about telling CCP to fuck off so much anymore, it's about waking them the hell up and turning them into a real company. Players are propagating the info and the thread is growing fast.

Mittens twitter. He's the CSM chair and a bang up dude with a SABRE AND A HOUSE PAID FOR WITH CASH MONEY. WHICH HE TELLS EVERYONE.
Also he's a smart dude and funny as hell. And he's also on the ball with updates.
http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard...&page=176#5252
Mittens post in the threadnought. Again, if this shit was happening like it should have been based on what CCP tells us CSM is for, it would have gone through him first. It did not.
edit:
He's doing a state of the EVE on EVE radio. Will update thread with info on

You know what would really turn this into a cataclysm? Lulzsec deciding to DDOS EvE right about now.
Liveblogging radio:
Not just mittens, all of CSM.
CSM is against burning of stake of CCP members by players. Dang.
All of them are adults, very surprised. Several are female. More mature than most political discussions I've heard anywhere but NPR.
"Blog a big "fuck you" to players." "Dismissive, insulting, not really touching on issues of concern to players, no additional information offered."
CSM WAS EMAILED THE DEVBLOG, pointed out issues, were ignored. Even predicted threadnought.
1hr and 58 min for old dev blog 1k post. New one hit 1k in 1hr 15min. Also sustained riots.
Lots of stuff being shot, CSM is impressed by tenacity of player base.
Tone of blog considered insulting. Seriously though, these guys are not what I expected. EVERYONE is an adult. wtf.
CCP not prepared to deal with any of it according to CSM. Excess of confidence. Perfect storm with bad release, store prices, newsletter. Lit all the players with a grudge because it had something guaranteed to piss everyone off. CSM is hitting nail on the head!
"Only thing that could have enraged the players more would have been monocle on the dev avatar"
"CCP has a blinkered mindset. People say CCP doesn't get it, they really don't. Incarna is one of their most successful launches, how do they define success?" "I expected three days of downtime."
CSM 5 wrote a letter saying that CCP should establish metrics for success of expansions prior to release, no words about that from CCP. Allows them to delude themselves with success.
"On this particular topic, CCP has decided on a strategy, they are going to excecute that strategy fearlessly, and nothing that we or the players say is going to change their minds. The only thing that will change their mind is actual player minds."
Only change direction if they feel their brand integrity is at stake.
CSM begged CCP to let them see blog before launch, dozen or so CSM replies offering changes, nothing changed and CSM notified of launch by tweet...
95% the same as in morning, minor tweet and change of one analogy.
CCP ZULU HAS RESPONDED TO THREADNOUGHT.
"Hey all, to clarify this blog its intent was to address two topics and two topics only, the shop and its pricing."
More info will come if we act constructive. CSM is taking that with a grain of salt, say that there is no expectation management.
Communication failure is agreed upon as major issue, CSM 5 had it as their banner issue.
Some areas have improved for CSM 6, the guys working on lag have been very communicative. No communication from high level people. Some breakthroughs seemed to have happened, clearly not the case.
"Why ask for advice, and then not take it?"
Devblog was a rehash of what happened already.
"Like they're actively disregarding the feedback they requested."
Too many CCPers have things they "cannot" talk about. Might be important to keep in mind that Zulu did want to answer the questions but was given marching orders by someone higher up. Devblog tone not similar to previous experience with communication with CSM.
"This does not sound like him at all."
Lack of answer to is there going to be rmt for game enhancing stuff enraging people. Path may have already been decided to go with it, desire not to tell players because it would piss them off further.
Hilmar at fanfest said they'd go where they'd have to go. NOT A GOOD SIGN.
"And they're not gonna tell us where that is because, clearly, when they do there's an uprising."
People want to be mad, but when we're talking about attacking people it's causing people to be "benched". They don't know what their media strategy is, but they don't want their staffers to mess up message they don't have yet. CCPers might be frustrated that they can't speak their minds.
PR GUYS WERE TOLD NOT TO RESPOND UNTIL THEY WERE READY TO OFFER AN INTERVIEW WITH ZULU.

Thanks for keeping those us of us away from PC's updated, Aeon. Also, that link was depressing.
