    Sin and Punishment: Star Successor

I looked for a thread specifically about this game, but all I could find were a bunch of references to it in the "Best of 2010" thread.

This is a game that has been sitting in the back of my mind for about five or six months, after seeing glowing reviews about it around Christmas time when all the end of the year best-of lists were being tossed about. It's currently on sale for about $15 at Amazon and I decided to Dust off my Wii and order a copy this afternoon.

Sin and Punishment: Star Successor is a sequel to an N64 game. It's a rail shooter, and a throw-back to many of the arcade and console rail shooters popularized in the 1990s (though I had played rail shooters before this point, my initial love for them began with Space Harrier in the mid 80s -- which I easily spent more than $15 playing in the arcade). For those that haven't played these types of games (on this board? pshaw), what this means is that the player is not in control of the path taken to complete each level, instead the game moves forward at a pre-determined/triggered pace, and the player is solely responsible for maneuvering the character around the screen, dodging attacks, while aiming a reticule at enemies and blasting away. Also, thanks to Wii-Waggle, they can get a few whacks in with a super charged sword when it's powered up

The game can also be played co-op, with the main differences being that player 2 does not control an on-screen character like player 1, and doesn't have to worry about avoiding attacks. P2 is simply in control of a second reticule, and is charged with the task of helping pump up the score by blasting away at enemies.

I hear the campaign for the game is rather short, which isn't abnormal for a rail shooter, because the primary draw for this type of game is attaining a higher score each run through.

Feel free to discuss the game here, I'll be getting my copy in a couple days and expect to dive in as soon as possible. We'll see how my wife enjoys it, the closest she's come to playing a co-op on-rails shooter is shooting gems at mushrooms and turtles in Super Mario Galaxy 2, while I busied myself navigating platforms and lava.
