Hey Dwarden, I was wondering if you guys are making some plans to secure the "Dayz" mod into Arma 3, instead of Rocket going away as a separate product. Maybe put it as part of the core game as a multiplayer mode.

I mean, Arma 2: CO is right now No. 8 in the Steam top sellers. You should answer to the demand and plan something.

    New video, about the lightning.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIwfS8uJJIk

edit: heh, even better than the new lightning is the glimpse of the new "tactical pace" movement, it seemed really smooth and responsive.

Frankly I think these guys are good game designers but should license a FPS engine from someone else.

I doubt any other engine on the market allows what Arma games are doing.

    Dear god, no.

    Please.

    No.

Wonder if there are any 1st person shots from ARMA3 yet? I can only remember seeing 3rd person non-UI ones.

Really hope they improve mod/mp support in ARMA3, as they have seen the past few weeks is that a proper mod will not only increase the longevity of the game but also bring in new customers in the long run. I suppose a few of them will be bummed off by getting kicked by repeated servers with no discernible error messages, or having to restart the client to add a "-mod=" switch to their launcher... Its the "little things". I'd say the best MP browser these days is the BattleLog for BF3.

    Today I learnt something new.

The guy who did this animation mod (which is a great job for an amateur)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vklOq6KFQy4
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3nRtA6wrM80

was hired by Bohemia, which explains some stuff I have been hearing about the game, as the new tactical pace movement and new high/low stances.

Is there some near-future reason why those divers don't have oxygen tanks? Gill-masks?

From the screenshot it does look like rebreather gear on their chests. The lady near the surface excluded, obviously.

The contrasting colorful lightning. It was a "thing" in Quake II, it used a lot of colored lightning as it was a novel thing in 1997. But looking back, they went a bit overboard because the novelty.

New interview, not a lot of new stuff.
    http://games.on.net/article/15750/We..._Maps_and_More

GON: Many people felt that ArmA II was somewhat unoptimised and ran slowly on machines that should have been able to handle it. Do you feel that ArmA III will address these issues?

Ivan: Hopefully yes. Of course, we have added new rendering techniques into the engine, which makes it more demanding, but with the computing power an average gaming PC has these days, ArmA III should both look and run well.
I fear what they consider "an average gaming PC these days". I think they have a different definition than mine and the rest of mortals.

    Edit
For reference, the minimium spec of Arma 2

OS: Windows XP or Windows Vista
CPU: CPU Dual Core (Intel Pentium 4 3.0 GHz, Intel Core 2.0 GHz, AMD Athlon 3200+ or better)
    RAM: 1 GB RAM
GPU: GPU (Nvidia Geforce 7800 / ATI Radeon 1800 or superior) with Shader Model 3 and 256 MB VRAM
    HDD: 10 GB

    And Arma 3

    Minimum Specifications:
    OS: Windows Vista SP2, Windows 7 SP1
CPU: Intel Dual-Core 2.4 GHz or AMD Dual-Core Athlon 2.5 GHz
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT or ATI Radeon HD 3830 or Intel HD Graphics 3000 with Shader Model 4 and 512 MB VRAM
    RAM: 2 GB
    HDD: 15 GB free space
    DirectX®: 10

That comment makes ARMA III look like a non-starter for me. My system is pretty robust, but ARMA II offers pretty inconsistent performance, and their most recent game (Take-on Helicopters) is a bit of a dog performance-wise.

The power curve for PC's has slowed way down. The "average gaming PC these days" isn't much different from what was available when ARMA II was released.

Yeah, the average gaming PC now is more powerful than one from 2009... but not by that much, because there is no need to buy a much better computer with most games being cross-developed to consoles.
Lots of people have the same computer from three years ago.
