Favourite moment in the SP so far - the shouty Captain you start off with is trying to inspire you to believe yourself capable of dealing with T34s and says something like "the enemy is just as easy to eliminate as you are!"

It's safe to say I am having tremendous fun with this so far. I realise that there are significant issues with multiplayer which are being worked on, but I just started messing about with the editor and it's great.
One of the things I liked with the editor in ARMA is how you can paint a pretty simple mission together and the butterfly effect will make it play differently each time. I'm seeing that again straight away with a mission I spent literally five minutes working on - some defend orders for some Russian infantry and a handful of independent tanks against a stronger German force with some search and destroy orders and... Go!

This is the opening of the same mission twice, with different results. Lots of German armour roving at the end of the first one and no armour left on either side on the second one. I think a Pe-2 crashed into a pair of StuG III the second time.

And it's a shame that this didn't come out clearer, because this was perfect timing - these guys surprised each other and pulled their triggers at the same time...
The German got shot through the arm... the Russian got hit right in the nuts.

I haven't even tried MP yet - having to much fun messing about with the editor.
Upthread there's mention of issues with the MP, but there was some big patch and another to come which will, allegedly, sort that out.
Hopefully by the time I get interested in MP it'll be fixed.
When Operation Flashpoint came out, I remember wishing that I had a WW2 version to create engagements with. I used to just make them and watch them play out without interfering. Now I have one and it's as much fun as I thought it would be.
I've tried multi but the only servers with a decent ping were offering the FW190 dogfight map which got a bit old.
I tried hosting the bombing raid and it was a bit of a hoot except for a few features- there appears to be no way to reload on the airfield so dropping your bombs and living seem to be pointless. You either fly around hoping to die or kamikaze the plane. Another player joined in but obviously thought this was Day Z because he kept on shooting me in the head or dropping bombs and killing himself as soon as he entered the plane. This left a smoking mess of stukas which prevented any take offs, which could have been prevented if they enabled the persistence of wreckage to be removed. Oh well.
I tried the Soviet campaign but it started with the usual moronic 'test your fitness, soldier!' tutorial (seriously- would any person new to shooters be trying this game?) which crashed to desktop twice. I think I'll just keep it as my sandbox.
I tried the German campaign. Customary tutorial ensues. We all get in a truck and then get out in a field and everyone just kind of sits there for about 5 min. I think I was supposed to go over to the firing range but I couldn't seem to trigger the event that would let me pick up a gun.
Maybe I'll try the mission editor tomorrow...
Only thing important, does it have a functional warfare mode...and I agree, why on EARTH would you cater to the smallish airplane freaks when you can have glorious warfare mode with boots on the ground.

argh, bought it, and ofcourse they don't have a functional warfare, the only gamemode worth its salt in ARma...sigh.

Looked at blitzkrieg mode, its a variation over the Rush mode I think.
I don't mind, the game concept is pretty good, I always ment ARMA 2 never was ment for modern war, but for ww2...
However, warfare mode is really the ONLY major thing that sets it apart from any other iteration..
Without it, I don't get why I just don't play Red Orchestra 2..

I really had hopes that warfare or ATLEAST domination would return here, but no, they got nothing new at all, just CTF modes in variations...ITS DULL and its not what ARMA 2 is for.
What a waste.
Domination is not an official part of Arma.
And Domination is shit. The most unArma thing that Arma have.
And there is new mission modes, like Blitzkrieg or Tank warfare.
The game is in Steam today with a 66% off.
