What is an efficient way of getting obsidian? I let a small lake of water drop on top of a lava pit and it yielded me 1 measly piece. I do not know what happened to the rest of the water? Am I supposed to do this 1 piece per bucket of water? I made like 8 buckets, but traveling between water and lava kind of sucks.

Hence why I said it's the fun bit ;)

You need to drop a water deposit at/near lava. Just make sure the area you are dropping it into has a lip or is closed off or it will just flow away after turning one layer of lava.

Falling water doesnt do anything since it's too diffuse, create a cap of dirt and let it accumulate and then walk digging the dirt to create an obsidian cap. I hit me up on steam if you want to see our 600ft deep lake obsidian operation. Using a supply that big and a big lava pool, which we have, you can create an almost automated mining process that's 100% safe and above water. Mr coffee is the one that came up with it.

    Also doors act like floodgates.

I just mean the fact that I am just getting my brain around things and you guys have advanced mining techniques. :) My accountant brain does not work as well as I would like in these types of games.

The truth is out, Morberis was the guy that leaked the game.

AHA!! I just would never believe that of anyone here. I would be crushed. Luckily, I know everyone at Qt3 is just quick learners.

Forum effect was too strong to resist. I picked it up and played long enough to construct a shelter before nightfall.

Pardon, what I meant was that the knowledge of the game (advanced mining techniques, etc.) was out and on the interweb because of the leak, not that any one from qt3 had personal knowledge of the game before release. Entity forbid!

Holy crap that's complex... seems like even the Small is about 5 times deeper than Minecraft, if we're using the size of one's character as the relative comparison.

Ok, so now I have some obsidian. I got like 100 pieces, so now i need this hell ore or whatever to make that flamarang and better armor. So I dig deeper and deeper until I get to the underworld (not seeing any special iron anywhere else). So now fall down to some area that is miraculously safe (no lava) and then there are these imps that shoot fireballs. My gold sword does 3 damage to them. My boomarang does 3 damage to them. Oh by the way I now see some hell ore (I think, I can't get to mine it yet). I know I can stun-lock the imps to kill them.

However, there is this problem. The imps are NON STOP. I kill 2, then 3, then 5, then 8 and MORE IMPS keep showing up. WTF?! How am I suppose to deal with this?

I must be retarded or something, everyone else seems to think this game is a cake walk, yet over and over for me its a painful crawl. Is there some principal I am missing? What am I doing wrong that is causing this game to be such a monstrous pain in the ass to get anywhere? That god damm cuthul eye shows up almost every night to kill me. Fucking slimes swarm me. Skeletons rain down upon me when I am under ground. I have to run like a mad man to get anywhere before the waves of monsters arrive.

You need lots of health potion and armour if you are going to hell. Have you broken any shadow orbs yet?

Those fire imps are awful. I really wouldn't go down that far before getting some snazzy gear.

If you really just want to get the Eye out of the way, try buying a pile of shuriken from the merchant and using those. Fight it on some relatively flat ground, preferably close to your spawn, and try to throw the shuriken up at it so you can collect them as they fall. You'll be able to throw them far faster than the dinky boomerang.

I am trying to get snazzy gear. The best material I got was gold. Nothing I have found has been better. Where am I supposed to go next? I found some corruption area, but the stone there was impervious to my gold pick. There is that eye which is supposed to drop some kind of ore, but I can't kill that. Thats why I was trying to get some of the ore to make the flamarang to kill the eye.

I heard there was some jungle area, but I have not found it. It goes from the brown rock, to grey rock, to lava land.

DeepT, if it makes you feel any better, I am finding it a bit grindy/challenging as well. I've been playing for 8 hours or so and have found very little ore to craft improved weapons with. My only armour to speak of is a copper helmet and I too get swamped by enemies wherever I go.

I find the monster spawn rate a little high at the moment, I have spent whole days just fighting off slimes when all I wanted to do was chop down some trees!

I have to stress that I am avoiding the wiki for the time being and I am enjoying the game heaps. I did just remember I could set up an alchemy station, so access to proper healing potions will help now!

Crafting items from scratch yields a limited amount of useful items. This game is about finding treasure and then sometimes upgrading that treasure.

With gold you want to explore just above Hell for magic gear, but especially you need to tackle the corruption. To do that you need to kill a boss so the dryad comes or buy dynamite. The only way to get rid of that corrupt stone is to cleanse it (dryad), mine it using items you get from bosses (eater of worlds), or blow it up using dynamite - not bombs.

That's two nights now spent playing this till the proverbial quarter to three. I need sleep, but apparently not _that_ much...

I found the early game pretty grindy, but finally affording a mining helmet made the underground much easier. The second night's achievement was a hookshot; with these two, I'm finding a ton of ore that I missed before (and a demon altar which was surprisingly near my spawn point).

I'm torn between avoiding spoilers and finding tips for what to do next. e.g. Should I be saving up these jungle roses? Attempting a summon? Going deeper for loot? Attacking a shadow orb? (Most recently I discovered that I am in no way ready for the dungeon). Not sure if I actually want an answer - it may be the open-ended progression that's keeping me interested. Great, great game.

Remember that the total damage is Bow Damage + Arrow Damage. Also you can probably get two shots off before the boomerang can make it to the eye and back.

I forgot about Shuriken. Use those, they whip ass and are one of the best ways to overcome shit that seems (or is) too hard for you at the time.

The eye runs away at dawn, btw.

The eye runs away as soon as you die, so I need to kill it on a single life. I have found a fair number of treasure chests and so far, gotten about 6 boomarangs. I heard there is a pistol which will allow you get a gun merchant or something, but I have not found one.

I went into the corruption somewhat, and found a deep pit ending in water who's walls I could not mine though. Tonight I may try bypassing that pit and seeing what else I can find beyond it. I have not found any orbs yet.

Word of the street is that you can use shurikens against the Eye.

Probably building a special area, with platforms, could also helps you kill it more efficiently. Or you can always invite a friend to help you!. Things are more fun with friends.

go kamakaze in there at night time, grab whatever loot you can find, make sure you make a spawn point out there though.

I manage to score muramusa last night but doing that..
