In my view Rage is worth experiencing if only for the fantastic and beautiful world design.
Really great shooting is just gravy.

I thought it was awful, or at best, unremarkable at $60. But it's probably worth $10 if you have absolutely nothing else to play.

Rage was an unexpectedly great experience for me. I would drop $25 for it, knowing what I know now. I think I paid like $10.

$10? Yes! $60? Oh, hell no.

I recall liking this game, sadly the cool-aid has worn off...

It was a HUGEletdown at $60, I mean did anyone seriously like the last hour rushed ending with the super boring levels?

Also the tacked on Sewers DLC that seemed like it was created in under an hour of design time. OR the fact you had to go back and replay most of the content twice if you took missions on the bounty board. I guess they did this to stretch game time...

I also recall them promising mod-tools shortly after release, I guess they gave up on that along with any other DLC they had planned.

RAGE should have had the "Mass Effect 3 Endings Sucked" rage of the Internets , to get a decent end game.

I won't even get into the fail that was the online multiplayer racing... Did anyone ever bother with it on PC? I think I got into maybe 5-6 games before the community died.

I will say the co-op bits were fun for the 5 hours it took to complete them. :)

    All in all... Meh...

I'll bite at $5. Mostly because I didn't enjoy the demo at all. Something about it felt off in the combat. And the town portions were really tedious after a while. So I'd usually just dismiss it, but there were some videos posted early in this thread that had me intrigued. I do want to at least experience the outdoor combat (as opposed to the crappy sewers in the demo).

I think I paid $20 for it, and that felt just right. I quite enjoyed it.

Pretty sure me and my friend would have bought it had it had complete campaign Coop.

The environments were gorgeous once the driver issues were sorted out. The shooting was solid, as you'd expect from id. The story, crafting elements, and all the RPG stuff was abysmal. The ending fell flat with a gigantic wet plop. Again, as you'd exect from id.

The one unexpected thing for an id game that RAGE had was how poor the multiplayer portion turned out. Anemic co-op missions and an astoundingly DOA autoduel type versus mode. WTF id?

Are all of the technical issues fixed? Texture resolution, graphics etc? Or does it require major tweaking and manual config changes to get it to look right?

Like I said in the Steam sale thread, the only thing I had to do to get everything running and looking great was update my graphics drivers. I have an Nvidia 560 Ti. Not sure if there are still issues with otehr cards or ATI or whatever, but I had no problems. Looked and ran great.

I don't think it ever had issues with Nvidia cards. So not having problems with it on an Nvidia card is not really helpful news.

I'd be tempted if Rage was $5 or below if they've fixed the issues with ATI cards completely.

I paid $10 for Rage awhile ago and felt like I should have waited for $5. It had potential but was ultimately disappointing.

Do people care about the mod tools for this game still? Anyway, from JC's Twitter:

BFG work pushed the Rage tools, but Real Soon Now. I hope. Sigh. I think we have made poor decisions on this all year.
Understatement. Keep in mind Tim Willits had said the tools would launch day one.

The Rage ATI issues were sorted out months ago. If you are holding out because you have an ATI card, go ahead and buy it. There are plenty of reasons not to buy it, but graphics problems aren't one of them.

There are still a lot of people with their head in the sand about Rage's future over on the official boards, people who still think there will be an expansion, DLC, or even a sequel. Anyone with half a brain knows that if there was DLC coming it would have come out a long time ago. At any rate, the tools are probably too late to matter at this point but for a few hardcore fans.

Too bad, because while Rage wasn't a great game it does have its moments. They just totally screwed themselves with those ATI issues at launch because it created the perception that the game was buggy in general. I'm not sure it would have been considered a success even without those, but it probably would have been a decently received title with a bit of DLC.

It doesn't deprive me of sleep, but if possible, I would like to try to make a balance-mod for myself. IMO, Rage was poorly balanced in the pc version.

The tools have been so long in coming that I actually forgot about them. It's definitely too late. The community has moved on save, as was noted above, for a handful of hardcore people.

Carmack has said himself many times that the tools are sketchy anyway because the process is pretty complicated and very computer intensive so the average person won't have a lot of fun on their home machines anyway.

Oh, man! Everyone was waiting for this, right!?

    <crickets>

Return to the Wasteland in The Scorchers, an all-new RAGE add-on from id Software – arriving on 360, PC, and PS3 next week for $4.99 (or 400 Microsoft Points).

In this brand-new adventure spanning six all-new areas, you will fight alongside new allies to defend the Hager Settlment from a maniacal bandit clan known as The Scorchers. Along the way, you’ll participate in a new season of Mutant Bash TV, encounter new mini-games, and wield the overpowering and brutal Nailgun.

In addition to the new content, this DLC includes ‘Ultra-Nightmare’, a new high difficulty mode, as well as an ‘Extended Play’ option that allows you to play past the original ending of the game – giving you the opportunity to finish collecting items and achievements.
    Nope.

Screw that id Software, that should be for free in the base game, because was badly balanced!

People on the intarwebs are actually excited about this DLC and are looking to buy it on day one.

Wasn't Rage a failure? I have the game and I think it is a failure.

Wtf would anyone go nuts over the DLC?

In other news isn't Id software a failure? remember when gaben was the underdog and had to lease the engine from I'd for half life? My how the tables have turned by bad business decisions... I guess Todd hollenshed is to blame for Id's failure.

People like different things. The Internet allows people with niche opinions to find others like them and form small communities.

Being honest, looking at the screenshots of the DLC it looks fun. Maybe in the next Steam sale when it's 50% off...
