If you're having a lot of trouble with the difficulty, I'd suggest sleeping at an Inn until night time, then going outside of the first town and killing off all the goblins and wolves and whatever. There are a lot more enemies at night, and these are easier. This will give you a leg up on XP, gold, and RC. Then you can equip better stuff, and hire better pawns. Game will be a bit easier.

Also, don't try to do too much before getting your ability to recruit 2 additional pawns. The combat is mostly geared for you +3 pawns. If you're trying to do stuff with just you and the starter pawn, you're doing it wrong.

Like Demon's Souls, this is a game that doesn't feed you information. You have to figure it out, or hit the web for best strategies. That's probably a turn off for some people, but I actually really like it. There's a pretty decent game here, and I hope people stick with it long enough to find it.

Weirdly, my local gamestop said they'd have the game for me tomorrow, and it doesnt release until the 25th here in europe.

Can I get in trouble for playing the game before release?

I love that they have the option to upload pictures. I don't love that they've tied it into Facebook. Ugh. I am not linking my Facebook account to Dragon's Dogma.

Agree, wish it would send it the pictures somewhere else. I don't have tons of gamer shame, but I don't want Dragon's Dogma slathered all over my facebook page.

That's why you create an account for "Tim Chick", your long lost brother, who has no friends but you and and who appears to use it only for gaming.

Or, an account for your cat.

I've never heard of anyone getting into trouble for playing a legit copy early.

Alternatively, Capcom could stop trying to hijack my existing social network by holding back a game feature as ransom. Arglebarglenerdrageurk! I do love how Rockstar handles this stuff.

But, yeah, it might be time for my cat to get a Facebook account.

The facebook uploading is pretty un-intrusive. It makes a new picture gallery and uploads all the pictures in there. As far as I could tell, it doesn't post any status updates or stuff on your 'wall' (or whatever they're calling it nowadays).

Or at least it hasn't yet.

At that point you can just download the picture and upload it to imgur or something.

I got to put about 7 or so hours into the game and I have to say, I am really really liking it so far. I'm still the starting archer class, around level 12 or so. My constant pawn is a mage, and I've got another mage and a fighter to round out the party.

The narrative is no big deal, but the game can ooze atmosphere (mainly at night). I didn't even mind the escort quest that comes relatively early on... creeping through that small canyon was a pretty tense experience.

The combat really works for me. I love when a mage buffs the party with fire weapons, I take down a harpie with a flaming arrow, my fighter pawn grabs it, and I finish it off with a combo. I love how easily I go between ranged and melee, something kingdoms of amalur was okay at doing, but where dogma really shines.

And exploring still is a blast. Can't believe I forgot to get a lantern for my main PC before jumping down the well... (a pawn grabbed the one offered)

I made a mage but I don't think I'm digging it. It might be that I don't really have any interesting spells yet.

It looks like when you get beat up a lot(mages are squishy) you lose some max health, so you can only be healed up to that point. Is there any way to recover that without going back to an inn and resting?

A review I saw mentioned that you shouldn't worry too much about your initial class, because you get a chance to change it early in the game. Is that just a one-shot thing, or can you change classes repeatedly to get some kind of hybrid skill synergies sort of thing? How limiting are the classes? Are there large block of skills that you're totally locked out of? (I guess you can fill any gaps with pawns?)

Consumables. Food, potions, etc should get your health bar back to full length.

I think you can change at any time for a small fee at Inns. You can also search through Pawns to a really fine level of granularity if you need specific capabilities. Seems super flexible and forgiving.

I hadn't heard about this before today... and it looks compelling. However, I don't have the time for it. If this goes on sale before my backlog empties I might have to pick it up!

Are you guys aware of the Pawn system. basically, its a Henchman of a sorts, that you can costumize via potions to act as you'd like.

One of the big things about them, is that you can hire them out to your friends and they can use them in their games. Pretty fun idea.

It costs discipline (think job points, which you get for levelling up) to switch vocations. 1,000 to one of the other starter classes, or an advanced class, or 1500 for one of the hybrids. Which sounds like a lot, until you realize some skills cost upwards of 2k by themselves.

I do like how you can get passive attributes from any of your classes you've levelled, and apply moving forward to whatever other class you may be playing.

So far I've levelled a fighter, and then now into a warrior, which is kind of ridiculous 2 handed AOE destruction. However, I think I may want to explore using daggers/bows...or go assassin (so I can go swords/bows, and use some of the sword skills I unlocked with fighter).

Lots of choices. Lots of gear choices.

I really, really like this game.

I feel really guilty that I can't justify getting this until I'm less obsessed with Diablo 3. I hope it sells well for them, it sounds very interesting and I plan on picking it up as I can take a break from Sanctuary with my friends.

Feel free to hire the awesomely cool mage Darius. He will do any tasks, big and small without issues - oh, and he's a pretty nifty mage as well!

if anyone wants to friend me on the xbox first, I'm razgondk there

Of the handful of people who bought this, is everybody on the 360? Any preferences between the two platforms that people are aware of?

Besides having more friends to grab pawns from on 360, apparently the 360 has higher framerate but more tearing.

Looks great so far to me on 360.

Aye it does look fine . I do unfortunately notice the tearing a lot :-/

The game itself is pretty damn good. Its fun, its hard, but not too hard, and for some reasons its quite addicive for me. There's a TON of items in the game, which is fun, and the pawns idea is awesome as well.

I'm having a lot of fun adventuring around right now. Still in the beginners area, but there's a ton of quests there, that I didn't see originally.

oh - Remember the notice boards. Quests there as well!

This game is simply awesome! I can't believe there arent more people here playing it?

I'm using Harkonis' Pawn right now - pretty fun. The game is kinda like Skyrim, but with more of a story, no fast travel, and deadly, deadly combat. Bandits routinely kill me, especially the damn swordsmen.

The classes are varied and very interesting, and the skill systems likewise.

All in all, this is my sleeper game of the year, so far!

I'm with you 100%, Razgon. I'm not at all surprised that it's not getting the attention I feel it deserves but I am disappointed.

Here's my character and my main pawn, Diallo and Assata. I've also become addicted using some dude's pawn, Jess, that's just a taller Assata. I really don't ever have a need for her and would often be better off without her but it feels right having her around.

What do you mean, you don't need her and would be better off without? I like my full 4 man party when adventuring!

The game is really a strange mix between Assassins Creed, Demon's stone and Skyrim as far as I'm concerned, with a touch of Red Dead Redemption.

I am not surpised it isn't getting any attention. Released 1 month earlier or two months later and people probably would be talking about it. Hell, I was looking forward to and it preordered it months ago but it sits unopened on my shelf.

I totally plan to get this game after I move. I'm soooo happy to hear it's a lot of fun. It sounds like it's exactly what I was hoping it would be, an open-worldish game with plenty to do.

I've been having a lot of fun with it as well with what little I've played. I kind of wish you didn't need to have a full party of pawns with you. Chatty bitches.
