I had totally forgotten about this game. Wow, four years since it was first announced.

I wouldn't be surprised if Techland has changed a lot about this project after the success of Left 4 Dead. Perhaps even sprinkled some Dead Rising love onto it as well?

    The trailer was quite impactfull.

The attention they its giving the game is certainly good, but have they set the expectations for the tone of the game to high, if they deliver just a variation of dead rising the backlash could bite them in the reviews.

What's the music? Sounds a lot like Ludovico Einaudi.

Fantastic trailer that touched me in the sleep deprived parent spot.

Chance of gameplay living up to the expectation that the trailer just created: Nil

CG trailers anger me. Interesting for their own sake but worthless as a "game trailer".

Anyways an open world zombie game sounds interesting.

Oh wow, talk about returning from the grave. I figured this had been canned ages ago. Great trailer!

Maybe I'm imagining things, but it looks like the Dad is saying 'Wave bye-bye' in the final frames.

Someone edited the trailer into a linear sequence: http://bit.ly/i26Lu7 .

Like when a car commercial is nothing but flashy pixels. Really irritates me. At least CG game trailers usually establish setting or something.

Yeah, while the trailer makes this a must play game, the idea of a sand box game designed with co op in mind doesn't interest me in the least. If it is something like Fable or Dead rising 2 where it was thrown on for a check box and can be ignore, I'm ok with it.

As John Waters said* the magic is in the editing.

Even if it undermines the theme throughout the original trailer, the linear version from beginning to end is surprisingly effective too. The music is definitely a big part of it as well.

I think you misunderstood me. I've never seen a trailer as powerful as that when applied to a game, CG or not. Lots of trailers for movies, yes. But for a game? No.

Also, another reversal: this time without the stupid added sound effects. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxO1YUHVmrg

    Bikini zombies, I think.

And I don't know what trailer some of you guys saw, because clearly no one survived this one.

I'm not huge into zombies, and I think they're being overused lately, but that trailer was indeed amazing, I have to admit.

Being rated AO for violence against children and therefore not released in the US? Everybody saying this trailer was amazing, I agree, but not for the reasons you think.

I'd be surprised if there is any violence against children in the game itself.

The big disappointment is that the gameplay shots look a completely different tone from the trailer. A "serious" zombie survival horror game, akin to Resident Evil, but with a cast made of regular people not mercenaries would have been something interesting.

EDIT: Dead State is probably more what I mean and seems like a better prospect.

I've only seen the version Vinny Caravella did replacing the music with the song Mad World. It was pretty sweet.

Why? The entire trailer is about a family being killed by zombies. Would you be surprised if there's floating cities in Bioshock Infinite?

The depiction of zombie kids has been conspicuously absent in zombie videogames, although it's a staple of zombie movies. Even if you let Katey turn in Dead Rising 2, it never shows it.

BTW, it's interesting that Dead Space 2 gets around this by having child and baby necromorphs, but it's not entirely clear that they're transformed children, so you can shoot and stomp them to your heart's content. I imagine EA fudged it enough to get around whatever ESRB restriction you're implying.

I'm sure the trailer has all sorts of stuff in it that don't appear in the game. The emotional impact, for example.

I think it depends on how it is handled. Prey and Fallout 3 both have violence against kids but it happens either before the player arrives or just out side of the player's ability to do anything about it. I think what is banned is player violence against children. You can see it, but not do it.

You've already been given answers two good answers so I will just add that I did mean there would be no player violence against children. It is not entirely impossible that children can get hurt in the game but it is more than likely that it will be during cinematics or scripted sequences.

And considering that The Walking Dead can show a small child get shot in the head on network television, I don't think it is necessarily a subject that would instantly receive an AO rating.

Snarling monsters in the shape of little girls and actual, bleeding, flesh-toned, frightened little girls are two different things. I thought that was obvious, but hey.

There are different standards applied to videogames, partly because the whoever mandates those TV-14 disclaimers (Actually, who is the TV ratings board?) has a different agenda and process than the ESRB.

Matt's worked in the industry, so he would know better than me, but there may very well be an implicit line drawn where the player attacking a child gets you an AO. But for whatever reason, zombie kids are conspicuously absent from games, even though they're a crucial part of the lore (Night of the Living Dead, 28 Days Later, etc.).

So can you elaborate a bit on what you were saying about the AO thing, or are you just showing up here to be snide at people?
