    Exchange email gap.

    Hey folks,

Today I opened up my email at work to find there is a month of missing emails. I'm on a Mac (PPC) 10.5.8 using Entourage 2004. They're not on the server if I log in directly, either. Just curious if anyone else has run into something similar.

    Thanks!

This happened to me again, and I can't figure it out. Anyone have any idea?

Is Entourage configured to connect / sync with the Exchange server at work in the preferred, native way or is it just using IMAP or POP3? I'm assuming that it is in full sync.

The 'missing' emails... do they appear to be emails that you have never, ever seen before or more like emails that you did something with when you originally got them (organized into other folders, deleted)?

Do the 'missing' emails show the original, older delivery date or do they all show the current date - the date when you 'found' them?

They are just not there. Emails are just gone. If I go to my inbox, I have 5 emails from today, and maybe a dozen from January. Everything else is gone. If I log in through OWA, the same. Other folders don't seem to be affected. Not set up to sync through POP or IMAP, just the normal full sync. I have no idea what would make them disappear. It's very possible that they disappeared from the Exchange server, and just updated into Entourage that way. I just don't see what could be causing it.

Oh, I totally misunderstood you for some reason... missing means they are missing now. (I'll try harder to keep up.)

It sounds like maybe you have AutoArchive set but don't know it. I don't know where this option is on Entourage but in Outlook it would be (from the main screen) Tools, Options, Advanced and then into Archive/AutoArchive settings.

If I'm right it means the emails are being moved out of your main Exchange / Entourage inbox and into a separate, local file on your computer and that you can still get them. That is, unless Archiving is set to delete stuff instead of move. This type of mailbox cleanup can also be done on the server so check with your IT department and see what they can tell you about that.

Entourage is a fucking dog. It's not worth troubleshooting it. Run Outlook in Parallels.

The native Outlook for OSX (part of the new Office version) works bloody well. Entourage is balls.

Edit - just noticed your version, that's kinda unfortunate. Snow Leopard helps out a lot with connectivity to Exchange servers.

Do you have any rules on the mailbox (I'm not sure where it's at on Entourage, but there's a button for it on OWA)?

If this is full sync mode, Brandon or Mr Peach are right, something is moving it out of your mailbox. Suspects would be:
    - auto-archiving, rules moving to a local archive (PST) or archived folder on the server
    - email rules moving it to a different folder or to trash
    - a portable device checking against the server that is deleting read or downloaded mail

Note that if this is not full sync, then that last option is -very- probable if you have a mobile device.

No rules and it's a PPC, so no going to Snow Leopard unfortunately. I don't see any Auto-archiving options in Entourage. I do have an iPhone, but don't see any particular settings that would cause this to occur.
