Well, hopefully if he's writing full-time, they'll use him to do future Mass Effect novels. His books were surprisingly good for licensed material.

Wow. Did *not* see that coming, but it's unfortunate. KotOR is one of the most compelling games I've ever had the pleasure of playing through, and Mass Effect is possibly my favorite series of all time (3 will tell. . . ).

I hope his move goes well for him :)

The big irony would be if his first job is writing a tie-in novel for the next Bioware game.

As far as his success, I think he'll be fine. He has enough fans and name recognition in the gamer audience to draw from for his next couple of books. I'll be curious to see what he writes when he isn't limited by the source material.

Er...if you say so. I read the first one and was rather disappointed with the way it turned Saren from a tragic villain to a sadistic asshole.

The writing for Throne of Bhaal and the NWN expansions where middling at best. ME2 was solid but not stellar. He wasn't the head writer for KOTOR was he?

Been playing the MP demo all day on the xbox. I figured the MP would be the throwaway portion of ME3 but I'm hooked. I'm very surprised how much I like it, especially when playing with a good team.

Quick tip if you are having a frustrating time with your new MP character. When choosing Quick Match to find a game, I would recommend setting the challenge level to bronze. If you leave the challenge level to "Any" you might be placed into a silver or gold level match. I was dropped into a silver level game on my level one soldier and got WTF pwned in the face. Once I noticed that I could select bronze as a match filter, things went much smoother.

Playing as a level 13 Sentinel in pugs, the highest wave I've gotten to on Silver is eight. Silver matches are no joke . Good times.

I feel the horde mode is well thought and implemented, with the usual leveling system, the classes, the objectives in the middle of the normal horde mode, the packs you "buy", etc.
But, and this is a big but, the actual core mechanics (moving, shooting) are still mediocre, so I don't think I will play it past a few days.

After playing with MP for a few hours, I can't imagine playing this game with anything else than the heavy sniper riffle. Except if theres some mode where the enemies can still attack you without heads. Also, mp seems a bit repetitive.

I have not played the SP, to not spoil myself.

I think the shooting is pretty good but why bother? Take only a pistol for maximum recharge speed and spam your powers.

Yeah, coming from Gears of War 3, I feel exactly the same. I like the classes, upgrades, packs, objectives and such, but the core mechanics aren't good enough to make me stay.

If by "good," you mean "terrible."

Finally got around to playing the demo, combat feels slower to me, more sluggish than two. Then again, it's been awhile since i played 2.

Well, coming from Gears of War 3, which was specifically designed to be a 3rd person covershooter, that's fair. It does say more about Gears of War then it does about ME3 though, which was designed with more then shooting in mind...

Combat, and more importantly, cover-based shooting, is a big part of Mass Effect. There's really no excuse for it being as clumsy and unfulfilling as it is now that we're on the third game. They've had more than enough time to improve the model.

The combat quality jump from the first game to the second was pretty high. Unfortunately, it appears from the demo that the jump from 2 to 3 is much lower. It's not terrible, but there are definitely things that make me thankful that they didn't try to shoehorn versus MP into the game using the mechanics they have now.

I disagree. If this were Gears of War 4, you would have a valid point. But for a game that is about more then just shooting, it's ok if that part of it isn't on par with a game like Gears of War. And like you say yourself: it did improve quite a bit from ME to ME2 (at least, IMO it did, I know people will feel different about that...).

Anyway, I didn't mind the combat in ME2, so I guess I wont mind it in ME3 either...

I don't expect Mass Effect 3 to have combat as good as Gears of War 3, but by now I do expect them to have gotten their act together well enough to be as good as the first Gears game or maybe even Drake's. I don't think that's unfair for a game that stresses the awesome combat in the marketing.

Saw the new trailer on AMC last night during Walking Dead. Looks more than ever like ME3 has turned the franchise into another Halo and Gears. Not sure I like what I'm seeing. It's pretty enough, and it's certainly action packed, but is it really the Mass Effect I've loved over two installments so far?

We are talking of the multiplayer part, which is mainly about moving and shooting.

Yeah, I don't mind the combat in sp since there is a lot more to the game there. But for mp I expected... something better.

That being said, I hope Epic take notes of the other parts in ME3 mp for Horde 3.0.

I've yet to see any promotional material that highlights anything I liked from the first two games. The action was always a means to an end. This plus Origin plus useless multiplayer plus their total laziness regarding gamepad support on PC makes me want to skip this game entirely.

Caveat, I haven't tried the demo and I probably won't. I will never try the multiplayer, because I hate multiplayer and I hate it being shoehorned in.

You probably should try the demo.

Some might remember me not being happy with the changes from me1 to me2, specifically it becoming more actiony and less rpgy, and me3 is even mroe actiony still due to increased head shot mechanics, but i still like m3.

Lack of class balance will severely hurt replayability, but I suppose the previous games weren't well balanced either. I think me3 is more unbalanced from what i've seen in the demo though, but maybe that is because the character i was playing last in me2, a vanguard, got the short end of the stick in me3.

I broke down and preordered. I'm not too happy about it though as i preordered through origin. On paper, i do believe origin is basicallly steam run by a different company, but as with most people, i trust valve and don't trust EA.

I've never played any of the Mass Effect games, but the trailer popping up everywhere in facebook, with the robot vampire/zombies, strikes me as the most uninspired premise for a game iteration in recent memory. Earth, besieged by swarms of alien ships.. enter space marine ground force with piddly rifles, mixes it up melee-style with mindless drone alien. Ugh, really? Have all the games been this rote?

No, it's usually about gay alien sex and deciding which team members and galactic races must be sent to their deaths!

No, but way to judge 120 hours of gaming by 90 seconds of trailer!
