If you are actually Japanese as your handle implies, your own history has quite a few examples (which your own cultural superiority complex refuses to acknowledge) of shooting (and torturing and raping) unarmed strangers.

If you're merely far too fond of anime, you don't actually have a history beyond Astro Boy, so, well, there's not a lot to talk about!

I quite enjoyed astroboy cartoons when I was little.

EDIT If we mention Nanking, is it the same as the Hitler rule?

EDIt EDIT I just remembered we had the holocaust on about page 23, so we want past that stage already anyway.

What is your point? That he should be shamed into not talking about the current state of global geo-politics because of his nations past?

Do you even know what "geo" means? It means America. Geo-politics means America's politics. Like how you have to learn the names of the states in geography. America's maps!

Unless you believe that "the current state of geopolitics" is "America is a poopy head", I don't think he was really discussing the current state of geopolitics.

    Comedy Gold!

    http://www.state.gov/r/pa/prs/ps/2010/12/152465.htm

Highlighting the many events surrounding the celebration will be the awarding of the UNESCO Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize at the National Press Club on May 3rd. This prize, determined by an independent jury of international journalists, honors a person, organization or institution that has notably contributed to the defense and/or promotion of press freedom, especially where risks have been undertaken.
I wonder who is on the panel? If it features a majority of non US journalists, it is not a inconceivable possibility that one J Assange might be selected as the winner.

EDIT: Looks like UNESCO picks the panel of 14

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UNESCO/..._Freedom_Prize

Expect the panel therefore to be quite multi country, US probably only gets one or two spots. Extremely serious chance of Assange being in the running for this prize. Admittedly he has not faced actual violence to his person like many past winners (two of whom are posthumous winners), just threatened violence by powerful political figures

He is denouncing the subtle hypocrisy of the current US foreign relations policy. And all you found to argue against his opinion was "lol but japs r fucked 2 so i dunno lol".

And to argue that the US does not come off as a poopy head in all of this is ignoring what we have learned. They most definitely come off as a poopy head.

    From The Guardian:

Ramping up his rhetoric on Fox News just now, Senator Joe Lieberman, the head of the Senate's homeland security committee, suggests that the New York Times and other news organisations using the WikiLeaks cables may also be investigated for breaking the US's espionage laws.

    Lieberman told Fox News:

To me the New York Times has committed at least an act of bad citizenship, but whether they have committed a crime is a matter of discussion for the justice department.

Only if, as you have demonstrated repeatedly in this thread, you are already looking for proof of your own preconceptions. Most analysts are actually surprised at how adept US State analysts are at, well, analyzing the countries they are posted in.

Particularly considering the fact that at least one official that I remember hearing from over the weekend said something to the effect of, "We're not going to go after people who have taken these things after they were released." I forget which of the shows that was - might have been FNS, or possibly This Week.

    The article leads with:

Qatar is using the Arabic news channel al-Jazeera as a bargaining chip in foreign policy negotiations by adapting its coverage to suit other foreign leaders and offering to cease critical transmissions in exchange for major concessions, US embassy cables released by WikiLeaks claim.
The actual passage in the cable:

-- (C) Anecdotal evidence suggests, and former Al Jazeera board members have affirmed, that the United States has been portrayed more positively since the advent of the Obama administration. We expect that trend to continue and to further develop as U.S.-Qatari relations improve, particularly to the extent that Al Jazeera coverage is made part of our bilateral discussions - as it has been to favorable effect between Qatar and Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Syria and other countries.
    I report, you decide.

Digby made a good point on twitter today that few journalists (including Fox) seem to realize that if Wikileaks is guilty of anything, so are they.

I totally agree Oishi! American cowboy shoot Indian, shoot Japanese soldier, shoot Japanese city with big bomb! What Japanese ever do to you, besides sneak attack Navy, march prisoners to death, enslave inferior Asian race for sex woman and disposable labor man?

American cowboy lack team spirit, not cooperate! He claim Japanese urban renewal of Nanjing not 100% peaceful! He claim PS2 not backward compatible with 100% PS1 game! He make fun of industrious Japanese commuter for grope schoolgirl on train and whack off to traditional tentacle art!

I'm no analyst but I have been quite impressed by how insightful, articulate and concise the US cables have been. Even humorous in many cases. Personally, since I believe EVERY country has thousands of cables as bad or worse than these, it's improved my view of the US State Dep't.

    More from Joe Lieberman:

I have said this is a serious legal question that has to be answered...This is very sensitive stuff because it gets into America's First Amendment.... What about the news organizations who accepted it and distributed it?....Whether they committed a crime I think that bears very intensive inquiry by the Justice Dept.

Neither is my country of origin of relevance nor are the crimes some nation has done decades ago important regarding the ongoing wikileaks discussion. If Russia or China received the same delicious treat the US is currently blessed with, you'd see myself smile. I don't think that would happen though as the Russians and Chinese are notorious for not being dilletantes.

Oishi - you don't honestly believe that if 250,000 Japanese Diplomatic cables were leaked that Japan would come off looking any better than the U.S. currently is do you? Because, um, everyone is an asshole at the National level. It's a matter of degree, not a binary equation.

As someone else said - "Nations don't have friends, they have interests."

As my earlier link implied, Japan doesn't need to leak diplomatic cables to look like asshats, their politicians are quite open about it!

Snort. China's recent diplomacy is best described as hamfisted (see: Spratley Isles, Nobel Prize), while Russia's own surly method of communication is centuries old. Your take on their diplomacy is about as accurate as your take on America's.

And relative nationality becomes relevant right about the time you started your jingoistic "cultural superiority complex" dancing on the presumptive grave of "the American empire". See, only dilletantes expect that randomly firing into a crowd wouldn't attract a return volley.

Well, of course it would. Japan is too unimportant geopolitically at the moment and for the forseeable future and it also didn't start to invade random countries killing hundreds of thousands of civilians in the name of freedom. I also don't think Japan would give hundreds of thousands of low tier staff members access to confidential data.

Unimportant but not naive. If they leaked serious data I'd call them naive in a heartbeat though. I wouldn't predict the fall of the empire as a pacifist isle with no military ambition is not an empire for obvious reasons.
