    Toshiba Satellite Repair

I have a Toshiba Satellite I bought about a year ago and the two USB ports on the right side fell into the case. They still work, but it's a pain in the ass to plug anything into them. Best Buy (where I bought it) tells me anything mechanical they have to ship out, which is an $85 fee.

Is this something a local shop could reliably fix, or should I just eat the ridiculous $85 fee plus whatever BB charges for the repair?

You should ask a local shop that question.

Based on my experience with a failing Toshiba Satellite, I'd strongly suggest that you burn it and then burn down your home and then put on a hair shirt, climb up onto a dung heap, curse God and die.

The hair shirt is a little extreme.

A local computer repair place would probably do it for less and it's not like you are voiding your warranty at this point anyway. Since you know the problem, it should be pretty simple to call or stop by a repair shop and find out just how much it would cost.

I guess this seems stupid but have you tried to fix it your self? If they still work why not open the thing up and take a hot glue gun or whatever and put them back in place.

I've had experiences with trying to self-repair electronic devices in which things fell out or popped out as soon as I opened the case. Things I had no idea where to put back.

I've cracked desktops plenty of times and even built a couple of them, but laptops are kind of a different animal.

OK Just checking. I've opened up my share of laptops so I can see why you might not want to do it. I don't know if for me though it would be worth 100 bucks to get that fixed. Good luck and you might try a local shop and see what they say the might go as low as 50 but who knows.

Yeah, thats what I'm going to do. BB also said it would take 3-4 weeks to get back, which is crazy.

So the USB ports are attached directly to the motherboard, which means they snapped off, which means that Toshiba laptops are held together with toothpaste and string.

    At least the WiFi works.

And people wonder why I tell people not to buy cheap laptops.
