    Laptop screen size problems

A friend of mine is having problems with his brand new Compaq laptop. He installed Starcraft on it but when he runs the game the screen size doesn't change to match the resolution and just shows an 800x600 game windows surrounded by a black border.. After a bit of fiddling I realised that the same thing happened if I just changed his normal desktop screen res. so it doesn't seem to be a game specific problem. I think he has an ATI mobility Radeon 64 Mb graphics card on the system. Hardware gurus, any advice?

    Nothing you can do.

Laptops and LCDs have a fixed resolution. Either they don't display on the full LCD or they scale the picture, making it wierd looking.

Just Say No to fixed resolution games.

Nevermind, I figured it out. He had somehow uninstalled/deleted parts of his old graphic card drivers and all it took was to install new drivers. Of course the official ATI drivers didn't work, so so the only drivers I could install were a year old which I found on Compaq's homepage. He's a computer-savvy kind of guy so I assumed he had proper drivers installed, which he probably did before some freak incident deleted them.
