The list is ridiculous, but what kills me is they're not being taken to task over the same problems that are present in their desktop GPUs from the same timeframe.
We got something in the mail at work today that may be of interest (and perhaps even some use) to certain folks around here. It was a rather nondescript postcard informing us of a settlement in a class-action suit against NVIDIA, entitling purchasers of certain notebook computers with faulty NVIDIA chipsets to a replacement GPU or a refund.
It mostly covers Dell and HP models from 2005-2009 or so, plus a couple MacBook Pro models.
If anyone wants to see if they're covered, they can check this site for further details.

Too bad my gateway laptop has the same gpu with the same problems but isn't on the list.
I have no vested interest in this, but it sounds to me like some NVIDIA disenfranchised users are on their way to receiving a hefty settlement of coupons for use on future NVIDIA product purchases.
Thanks for the tip, I have a Vostro from within those date ranges that coincidentally has started to die!
I don't think they've fixed these problem yet either, as seen by the abysmal yields on the GTX 400 series except the 460, which has big chunks of it disabled.
Yeah, this is a bunch of horseshit. My fiancee had a Dell manufactured during that period that had one of the faulty GPUs in it, but somehow it wasn't on the lists for the recall they did or for this, even though it died and we went through tech support hell trying to get Dell to replace it, which of course they never did because they are incompetent assholes. Hey, tech support dumbasses, which costs more: replacing the defective product you sent, or not ever getting a dime out of either one of us ever again because you are incompetent asshats who sent us on a phone runaround for hours, promised they would fix it, and then never did? Hint: I hate you, Dell. When I get a new laptop, I think I might throw this one off a building.
I got the postcard at home. My HP notebook is on the list and always ran super hot. It completely died as a result of their BIOS update, which was supposed to adjust the fan speed but instead just burned the whole thing out. HP replaced the motherboard for free but it continues to run like crap - loud and very slow. I bet kerzain is right about the coupons.
Found out my XPS m1530 is part of this... because this morning it has wavy lines all over. Yay graphical corruption!
Sadly I'll have to replace it before this settlement is decided one way or another.
edit; Not that it matters since I'm in canada.
