Not enough rainbows.
Don't be so certain.
Finally read the review. Multi-counter sounds fun. It's also satisfying to know "gaming's greatest melee combat system" exists on PC. I haven't followed the genre but I've always been intrigued.
Matt, are the difficulty levels the same as last time? Did you go straight to hard difficulty? Is there a hard new game plus as well?
They are the same, I did not go straight to Hard because I had to make progress quickly for the video segment, but I guarantee I will have no problems playing through again on Hard. Normal and Hard have separate New Game Plus modes.
Currently Arkham City sits at #1 on my 2011 Game of the Year So Far list, pushing The Witcher 2 to #2.
I used to be a big comic book fan, but I am definitely a Batman fan, despite not having read a Batman comic outside of the occasional JLA trade paperback for the last 5-10 years. More accurately, I feel like the Arkham games cater to fans of the Animated Series, both because they feature Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill and because they're written by Paul Dini.
But even removing Batman from the equation, this is a huge game, packed with content from top to bottom, with controls that do exactly what you want at all times. It is polished to an incredible level, every Batman character imaginable shows up at one point or another, and the sidequest content is almost impossible to tell apart from the main quest content.
I don't know what the hell is going on over at Rocksteady, but I wish they'd share with the rest of the dev community. I can't believe this is their third game. The only real concern I have is what they could possibly do to follow this up. Batman: Gotham City?
The Question: The Gotham Central Files
Batman: Rock Band
Sim Hospital II : Arkham Asylum
If they want to cement their reputation for all time? A Superman game that doesn't suck.
Not possible with current tech. Maybe by 2030 or so.
Well amazon is doing the $10 future game credit, and they now have release day delivery on the PS3 and 360 versions.

So I ordered a copy, because there is no way in hell I can wait for the PC release in 3+ weeks with the number of spoilers already coming out.
I'll trade it in once the PC version is released.
Rocksteady doesn't think a Superman game is a good idea.
Can't say I disagree.
Wow, the PC release date kind of takes the piss.
It ain't easy rollin' with the Master Race sometimes.
A bit more gameplay footage and some joker fighting!

One of the things that made Asylum so great for me was the tone. It had this amazingly twisted setting and tone - cold asylum tiled walls and little let up. I haven't heard this mentioned in the reviews for City, though it was in Asylum. I hope it's still here.
From what I've seen and read, the tone and setting if anything is even darker and more awesome. One review mentioned that each street has its own feeling and immense level of detail.
Oh, that's brilliant. Just so long as there's this cohesive style of twistedness about it. It's hard to define, isn't it. Just... Arkham.
Edit: Pogo, yeah, I have, and it all looks in place. It's partly the feel of it that you don't get unless you're playing that I'm after, though.
The style and tone is definitely intact. It's essentially Arkham Asylum with an Assassin's Creed overworld.
I have to say that Batman is doing it right by re-doing the good things plus a bit, whereas apparently BF3 is trying to be an also-ran to their competitor and pissing off their fans.
