I like the idea of 8 min quarters with a 15 sec runoff. The games last year just took too darn long, and the 15 sec runoff still gives you time to make an audible and/or receiver in motion.

If as rumored they're doing a patch to re-establish the Madden 10 style of audibles, it's not hard to give four or five offensive audibles quickly. In case you're trying to call a play like you're Gary Oldman in The Professional.

    "Streak routes! Everybody!"
    "Everybody?"
    "EEEEEEVERYBODY!"

IIRC, they said that patch should hit around a month after release, which will be close to when we're getting rolling.

    (p.s. everyone :)

FWIW I have found the "gameflow" thingy speeds up the kicking game a lot and shortens the game because of it.

I'm still a little leery of the runoff, but whateves duders...

Looking forward to this. Sometimes I feel the computer is just cheating on me, so it will be nice to have a human opponent.

I'm not a big fan of runoffs either. It makes each down too short to make proper adjustments.

7 minute quarters with 15 second runoff games take like an hour, 8 minutes with no runoff must take what an hour and a half? I am not sure I want to spend an hour in a single game much less 1.5 especially if it gets out of hand early (either way).

Yeah. Plus, sometimes my guys take a while to get set, and we have to take a time-out to avoid a delay-of-game penalty.

Yeah...definitely not a big fan of the run-off. Several times, I've been caught on the first play of a drive with not enough time to audible or call a hot route.

Even without runoff, you've got no time to audible on the initial first down. Play clock is only 25 seconds then. Pick your play, press A to rush to the line, make a single adjustment if need be, then run the play. Get fancy on second, but on first run the play you've called.

I'm in favor of the games going quicker. An hour is a long time, especially if you have connection issues.

I am a big fan of the runoffs, because "opponent gets delay-of-game penalty" is an integral part of my team strategy.

    Genius.

What about injuries? Can we turn them down a bit for the league?

Talisker and I played a game for fun the other night, and I asked about this -- he's got no control over sliders.

Last year when the quarter time was 8-9 min with no run-off, games would normally take 1.5-2 hours to play through. That is way too long, imo, and increases the chances games will lose connection. It just got really tedious. I think we should either have a run off, or lower quarter time to 6-7 min.

Sliders: not available for online franchise leagues -- all you get is the base difficulty settings.

Runoff: 15-second runoff never takes you below 20 seconds on the play clock -- unless you don't call a play until you have under 20 seconds, in which case it doesn't run anything off at all. Try it. As for the first play of the drive, as Matt said, that's 'cause you only get 25 seconds on the play clock, not because of the runoff (in the NFL, of course, they have commercial breaks to pad things, but you don't get those in Madden).

Quarter length: 5 is definitely WAY too short. Keep in mind that we'll only be playing one league game per week; I'm guessing that 8 minutes w/15 sec runoff will generally take 60-75 minutes (and significantly less if you're playing an AI -- I routinely bang those out in around 45 minutes in single player).

I'm going to post this here instead of the Tech forum because I'm specifically doing this for Madden, and hopefully you guys will have an idea. So, I recently moved, and in the spirit of having less of a footprint, I got rid of my speakers and just use headphones when playing on my computer. However, I've hooked my Xbox up to my Dell monitor, but I'm not sure what to do about sound. Before, I ran the sound through my soundcard, but it sounded like ass. I do have a receiver sitting around if need be. Is that pretty much the only way to go? VGA to the monitor, then sound through the receiver and just get a couple crappy, small speakers I can hook to the receiver?

I agree with this. In fact I would prefer 7 minutes plus the runoff.

Wait, wait, whoa. Why in the world would you play on a monitor as opposed to a TV unless it's specifically because your monitor's awesomer than your TV? A VGA connection? Man, just hook up your TV like a console gamer is supposed to! Stay proud! PCs are for RTS games and porn, not Madden!

I take at least two delay of game penalties a game against the AI each game. After turnovers, timeouts (ironically), punts and kickoffs. Often I'm not even calling an audible.

Aside from that, the way audible calling is set up now you can call a formation audible after looking at the D for a few seconds - which means 90% of audibles are going to be to slant routes (yipeee?)

OR you can Hot Route One receiver.

Or you can audible to a new play (with a formation switch) if you don't look at the Defense for more than 2 seconds.

Or you can put one dude in motion.

This is all assuming you haven't spent time doing any personnel subs or hemming and hawing in the play-calling screen.

All of which I can live with BTW, I tend to call my plays quick and audible once - usually a hot route or play flip - if at all. It just seems rushed sometimes. I also don't mind longer games. Whatever you guys find fun is good with me.

    EDIT:

    This seems sort of obvious.

    Quality plays over quantity.

My TV is indeed a bowl of ass. The monitor is much better, and I won't be replacing the TV for at least a couple months.

I vote for 7 minutes with the 15 second run off. Games for the league were onerous at times. Games do go a lot faster this time around with Gameflow. I don't use it as much on defense, but a fair amount on offense.

You can't just pick up a cable like this and hook your headphones directly to the 360? Maybe pick up a cheap in-line volume regulator, too?

Whoa wait, Matt Perkins and Bowyer are both in the league? That is very confusing. To me.

I hereby rename one of you X'Zavier D'Brickashaw Bloodsaw

Charity Beaver is also on the table.

While I am complaining, how did I end up in a division with X - "I play sports games like Rocco Sifferedi humps" -aroc and "The Silent Assassin" Technoverse? Was Madden Fatal1ty busy?

Are the Jaguars still available? If so, I'll take 'em. That should give me at least two wins against James & the Texans.

    My gamer tag is: DRWng19

I got absolutely owned by the Vikings tonight. I think it was something like 59-26. Would've been 59-28, but we missed two two-point conversions, just messing around to see if we could pull them off. Brandon Marshall caught three TD passes, and had well over 100 yards receiving.

But I still think this stupid game cheats. We could barely get any pressure on Favre, but when we did, he'd manage to flick the ball to an open receiver a fraction of a second before our defense could reach him. At one point, two blitzing linebackers were bearing down on him, and as they wrapped him up, he flipped it right into the waiting arms of Adrian Peterson, who promptly took it 11 yards upfield for a first down. And that was on third and ten. He also did that with Harvin or Rice, for 15 yards.

For comparison's sake, when Pennington got hurried and had to get rid of the ball, he never hit his receivers, but he did managed to gently loft the ball into the hands of a blitzing defender, who turned on the jets and took it back 65 yards for a touchdown.

Adrian Peterson could run wherever he wanted, but Ronnie Brown couldn't pick up a first down to save his life. And when he did, he'd have to sit out the next series with cramps.

And every fumble went to Minnesota, despite our guys clearly getting onto the ball first. And the Minnesota receivers were making spectacular one-handed grabs on the sidelines, while our guys were dropping perfect passes left and right. Anthony Fasano in particular couldn't hold onto the ball. Nobody could break tackles, except the Vikings. Several Dolphin defenders tripped on their shoelaces trying to block the run, leaving Peterson to leap right over them before rambling upfield for a significant gain.

    It was an ugly game.

    I can be Bloodsaw.

I'm also in Dominions 3 with DAVE Perkins, so there are Perkinses everywhere. I'll be confused, too!

Do I play you this year? I didn't get to last year with the family emergency on my end, so I'm hoping I get a chance to engage in WWE-style posturing for a week.
