Indeed , Malkovich was amazing in this, I haven't seen him in a movie in awhile that I really liked as much as this one.

More thumbs up. Well paced, fun and light, but not silly. Smart to let the actors carry it rather than lots of special effects and action scenes.

Haven't seen the film, but the graphic novel upon which the film is based isn't that great. I love Ellis' other works, but Red seemed pretty flat. "You don't want me to get revenge. Want me to get revenge? Fine, I'LL GET REVENGE!" Cue the blood. Is the film better?

All you young 'uns should go watch The Cook, the Thief, his Wife, and her Lover now.

Younger Mirren (though considered an "older woman" at the time) with ridiculous amounts of nudity.

    And lots of gross stuff.

All you folks who don't know who Helen Mirren is make me weep for humanity.

Picture of a young Helen Mirren:

I think the first movie I ever saw her in was Excalibur, where she played Morgana:

The movie was fun, but felt poorly assembled and kind of thrown together oddly. Like a bunch of good scenes held together by masking tape or something. Enjoyable but with lots of flaws.

Jebus, she was captivating in that one.

I first saw that back when I was in high school. The local PBS station aired it one night as the late movie, after Frontline, and I stayed up well past my bedtime, riveted by the images on display.

Sure, I was tired in the morning, but it was worth staying up for.

She's also good in an old 80's (I assume BBC?) British TV miniseries called Prime Suspect. I think PBS used to run it.

I liked the movie a lot. Malkovich was great. He looked like a tantrum-filled child holding that bear. The film was predictable once it got to about three or four protagonists, but still fun. I love MLP.

It wasn't a bear, it was a pig. You obviously didn't understand the movie.

Anyone else feel that Richard Dryfuss should have had a larger part in the film? I really think he was under used.

Also Ernest Borgnine looks amazing for 93!!

When I just sorta skimmed this my brain read "Ernest Borgnine looks amazing in 3D!!" Automatically, involuntarily...I shuddered. Do not want.

In other news, Richard Dreyfuss was used exactly enough. See Poseidon for more on this issue.

Ellis himself says a lot was added and changed to make it a full movie.

I did. I keep picking him and Abe Vigoda in Dead Pools.
