    Battle of the Conferences Round-Up

Well, we've seen them all now. Who won E3? (poll incoming)

I'm voting for Nintendo. They showed a lot of games I want, and a new portable that I am interested in.

Nintendo for me. 3DS looked great both in concept and in line-up (also what they didn't show, paper mario 3ds!), I loved the zelda visual style, golden sun and donkey kong country wii.

Sony was ok, but except for portal there weren't any real surprises. And nothing 2010 that could really grab me. Still have a small backlog, so I won't complain too much.

I don't own an xbox, but nothing on Microsofts conference convinced me that I needed one. The kinect stuff looked ridiculous and I own a wii since day 1.

I didn't really care about more than one or two of the games they showed, but the 3DS is an automatic trump card. So, yeah, Nintendo.

Nintendo got me the most excited. Sony comes in second with a much better motion controller of the two new ones plus a lot of games that seem to be worthwhile, plus the Jak & Ratchet game that I am really excited about. Skittles is a distant third.

Ninty had the best presentation. Sony's was okay. A decent mix of hardcore and waggle, although the 3D TV crap was exactly that. Microsoft came out looking awful.

Nintendo > Sony > MS. Sony's was oppressively long and boring, but they couldn't outdo MS's bed shitting.

I thought that Play beat Kinect by a wide margin, but Nintendo did have the best show. Thing is, Nintendo's was all 'if you love Nintendo you will love us even more now' and didn't really get me excited.

My favorite thing, as a lover of golf, was Move and Tiger Woods. If the fidelity and precision tracking is really there to know if I'm opening or closing the clubhead face, that's a lot like real golf.

Another cool thing Move could do that would impress me is tennis. I play a lot of tennis, and if the Move could track motion to the point where it knows if I'm hitting topspin or slicing the ball, lobbing or hitting a drop shot, that would be the best tennis game yet.

My affection for Nintendo properties has waned, but the 3DS is intriguing, so they win. Sony premiered commercials and exclusives for angsty teens, and MS premiered nothing in particular, so they both lose. It's been a pretty depressing E3 so far.

Sony did absolutely nothing for me. Maybe I'm just not cut out for console gaming.

All the conferences were actually pretty bad, although Nintendo came out on top of the pile of disappointments. I voted shit bonerz.

Biggest thing for me at Sony was the Portal 2 reveal, and I'll be playing that on my PC anyway.

I think Move will be much more expensive than Kinect (unless Kinect comes in at $190, but I hope not). $210 > $150.

The funny thing is, I may give both a pass this year, but I'll buy a 3DS, which means Nintendo won.

So now qt3 likes Nintendo? The groupthink is so hard to keep track of. Next you will probably tell me we like avatars, signatures, and emoticons. I may have to take a break from posting and risk my awesome 1.6 average posts per day record, until I can sort all of these maddening changes out.

I am alone think we all won!

Even 360 users have Halo, Gears and Fable this year, so they win too!

I voted for PC because I'm a PC gamer by heart.

Of all of the 3 conferences I saw + EA's and Ubi's there is a clear winner though: Nintendo.

Microsoft and Ubifail are fighting hard for the worst and it's too close for me to declare a "winner".

I'm not interested much in the next-gen waggle war but I have to say that Sony's stuff looks way better than MS' shit which looks like Wii stuff.
I could envision myself to even play Sorcery in a few years because it looked fun + I like the idea of a changing light to indicate stuff happening in the game. Even the Sony Sport things looked way better than the MS' ones.

"Epic Mickey" is the game that I want to play most after having seen all those games in the last 2 days. Not sure about Kirby but the idea is neat behind it (a bit like Paper Mario).
God of War: Chains of Olympus was pretty cool on the PSP so I will look out for Ghost of Spartan.
The shooters are less and less interesting to me the older I get. Also MoH multiplayer looks like CoD MW 2's. Only differences are the ribbons and medals on the top right you earn by unlocking stuff.

Overall I'm pretty underwhelmed as usually after being hyped up like hell as always before a E3.

The Nintendo conference was much more than I expected. The Microsoft and Sony conferences were much less than I expected.

Someone should manage to become tyrant over the PC gaming industry and hold a PC gaming conference at E3. Which will just showcase higher res versions of console games.

Blizzard should do it and do their convention at the E3.
Imagine thousands of crazy WoW players "raiding" the floors. :)

So I didn't watch the videos, so don't care about presentation style. I don't ever want waggle nonsense, so throw all that out the window, too. And none of the companies introduced new games that I'm interested in and wasn't already aware of. Which leaves me to look at what's interesting and new out of each presentation.

Nintendo: 3DS! That is pretty awesome, I want one now.

Microsoft: The new 360. It looks pretty neat, and I'll probably get one eventually.

Sony: 3D on the PS3. I dunno, it could be cool, maybe? Maybe if I get a 3D TV some day, I'll pick up one of those games to see.

So Nintendo > Microsoft > Sony.

I voted for Nintendo but it really hinges on if 3DS actually works.

Sony would've been a lot better if they cut out 50% of the crap.

Microsoft was a bust. Kinect completely failed to impress.

Nintendo showed stuff I actually want. Of course, it helps that they have a very, very strong stable of franchises. The Wii hardware is really showing its age, but the 3DS seems to have closed the graphics gap significantly.

Sony had a strong press conference from a PR perspective. I see it as an attempt to circle the wagons and show that they're still competitive in the marketplace. They played well to their core gaming audience, even if I don't consider myself part of that group. Also, Kevin Butler.

Microsoft tried very hard. Actually, they may have tried too hard. The controller-less Kinect technology is interesting, but I suspect it's still very much a work in progress. I also got the sense that they were spreading themselves a bit thin, simultaneously promoting themselves as a general entertainment device (ESPN, video chat), but also as a gaming machine (Halo, Fable, Gears).

Microsoft: Kinect looks like complete trash. No price announced, even more worrisome. Smaller 360 was the only good announcement to come out of that conference.

Nintendo: Awesome all-around. 3DS looks great, especially from the looks of how powerful it is. Those MGS shots and the Kid Icarus gameplay looked amazing for a portable. Plus, 3D without glasses? If it works as well as people have been claiming, I'm all about it.

Sony: Move did manage to impress me a bit with the Sorcery game. It doesn't look quite so dildo-y when in someone's hand too; more like a microphone. The color-changing light to correspond with the ingame spells in Sorcery was a nice touch, but it still left me with some questions: does it have any vibration capability? Does it have a speaker in it like the Wiimote? For example, whacking a tennis ball in Wii sports has a really crisp feedback feel to it. It's satisfying. Does this controller have any feedback to it at all? Anyway, other than that, Sony's conference was crap.

Nintendo was the clear winner for me.

Lol so many nintendo votes did we watch the same coverage?

I'm not a big portable gamer so 3ds does little to excite me and from what I've read so far it seems pretty gimmicky.

More zelda with 0 innovation I'll pass.

Mario sports/party games not for me.

Excited to see Kid Icarus make a comeback but not sure if that gameplay will grab me.

I can understand liking what nintendo had to offer but not to the point where it clearly out-shined the other 2.

Not that it was an option but EA's conference I enjoyed the most.

I'm the complete opposite. I have a strong negative reaction to yet more remakes, more sequels, more plastering of Mario over everything, and party games.

Don't get me wrong - I have little interest in the equivalent on other consoles, it just strikes me that Nintendo are the biggest culprits.

Upon further review, maybe the one thing that could mean the most to me is ESPN on Xbox Live. I'm not a big console fan so this tidbit might get me more mileage than all the Mario and Zelda games combined.

I think it's where the consoles need to go. I'd love it if I could subscribe to cable channels cafeteria style through a console. Well, I'd love it if they were cheap enough.
