What games to get For a PSP Go

I really had no intention of getting a PSP go I find it way over priced and had completely written it off. Well I received one as a gift yesterday and I can't in good consciousness tell the person who gave it to me that I don't really care for it. I already have a PSP-1000 that I don't play much but I am going to give this PSP Go thing a chance.

So what games should I be on the look out for? I already bought Disgaea (I am an SRPG fanatic) and I was debating on getting that Half-Minute Hero game people have been talking about. Other then that is there really anything that stands out on the platform? I was going over the PSone classics and there are a few that I might get from there but it seems like the PSP games that are on the store seem a little over priced. So the three of you on QT3 that actually have a PSP Go what games do you have for it?

Super Stardust Portable and Pixeljunk Monsters Deluxe are both quality titles.

I have WTF, Disgaea, Prinny, Badman, Half-Minute Hero, Warriors Orochi 2, Yggdra Union, Riviera, LocoRoco 1 and 2 and Midnight Carnival, Patapon 2, Crush, Magic Carpet PS1... that might be all. And I'm going to pick up Patchwork Heroes soon.

Patchwork Heroes is a total steal, I've been playing that game all week and can't recommend it enough (especially for the Western PSN price - it was released here as a full-price 4500 yen UMD game :/)

I don't know about the US store but I've found good deals for Loco Roco 2 & Midnight Carnival, Patapon 2, Killzone Liberation, Super Stardust Portable, Mercury Meltdown, Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, Burnout Dominator etc. LittleBigPlanet and Gran Turismo are worth full price.

I did get a bunch of free games for getting mine in the UK, like Assassin's Creed, Resistance Retribution, Pursuit Force 2 and Ratchet & Clank - all these are good, but I don't really know about their prices.

I really like my PSP Go. Of course there are limitations, but when you're playing something you want to play on it it's the best portable system out there.

I would easilly recommend Half-Minute Hero.

Lately I've been obsessed with Echoshift. If you like time-puzzle games defintely get that.

If you like perspective puzzle games definitely get Crush. That's on PSN isn't it? Should be.

Sony just announced "Spring Break" on PSN which means they'll be having different deals each week. This week Everyday Shooter for PSP and PS3 is $4.99.

So when you say its 4.99 for the PSP and PS3 does that mean I can play it on both systems? Should I download it on my PS3 then transfer it to my PSP?

Unless something's changed, a game like Everyday Shooter had separate releases on PS3 and PSP, so you can't do that; however, PSP Minis and PS1 games do work like that and you can copy across at will.

It is kind of confusing, I guess.

Tekken 6, Castlevania: Symphony of Night, Disgaea 2, Burnout Legends, Sega Genesis Collection, and Def Jam: Fight for NY are all great.

Thanks for the tips guys I do wish they would have sales more often like steam does. I might be more interested in picking things up.

Do you have to have played the original Disgaea to follow Disgaea 2? Just asking because of the €20 difference in price between the two.

No they are separate games with no real story between them. I honestly love them both and personally if you have not played many games like Disgaea before I'd get the first one simply because it is cheaper.

Nah man that's the thing. The second one is cheaper in most places I've looked by a rough factor of €20, at least on this side of the ocean. Weird I know but there you go. That's why I was wondering about missing out on anything by skipping the original.

Disgaea is one of those games I always wanted to get around to playing but just never got the chance. When I saw it was out for PsP in the OP I decided why the hell not just spring for it now?

(I'm talking about UMD discs here rather then a PSP Go download as I only have a 3000).

Ah ok well never mind then. Disgaea 1 is cheaper on the PSN by like 20 bucks then 2 so that is what I was thinking you were talking about. If 2 is cheaper I would just get that and move along home.

2 has some refinements to the battle system and a few other things that a lot of people liked. It is a great game that I put a lot of hours into.

PSP-3000 plays downloaded games just fine. I've got a 2000 and not dealing with UMDs is so awesome for a portable system that I've gone exclusively digital for new games.

I'm amazed how many people still think this is true, as someone who was downloading PSP games from PSN before the Go was even announced. Maybe Sony didn't do a great job of communicating, but isn't the link to the PlayStation store on your main menu kind of a clue?

I recently educated a friend of mine on that front. His PSP was so old that he didn't have the firmware version that enabled store access.

I never had any idea? I only ever use the thing on the odd occasion anyway and I just boot straight to UMD. I never felt the need to navigate through the menus, etc.

Better go check it out then. Might end up being cheaper, I know it would be a hell of a lot easier.

Yeah, and there's a lot of PSN-exclusive games (usually super-cheap) that you'd otherwise miss out on. As Bob says, you might have to update your firmware to enable the store, though I imagine not if you've bought any UMDs released in the past year or two.

Like I said above, I really can't recommend Patchwork Heroes enough, especially at six quid from the UK store. It came out last week but is already one of my most played games of the year - simple brilliance with a fantastic art style.

It amazes me that with a feature list like this:
FINAL FANTASY TACTICS: THE WAR OF THE LIONS, reborn and enhanced exclusively for the PSP system, introduces never-before-seen cinematic sequences, an entirely new English translation, 16:9 widescreen presentation and multiplayer features that will reintroduce this classic to a new generation of gamers.
that Square-Enix still hasn't made the FFT remake available as a download yet. No, we have to suffer through the original PSOne version which, though not lacking in quirky nostalgic charm, is not the version I want to play on my PSPgo.

I have written to S-E, begging them to release this as a downloadable version, and got a polite "we'll forward your request" response. That was months ago. If you look at the game's page on playstation.com, there are a bunch of people standing around with money in hand, clamouring for this. Argh.

the psp version sucks, there are major slowdown in combat, 2-3 seconds freeze every time you cast a spell or use a skill.

Yea FFT is absolutely amazing. I've played through my UMD version at least twice. That's not counting PsOne playthroughs ;)

I thought that would have been one of the first games up on the store. Oh well if they don't want people to give them money that's their decision.

    You shut your filthy mouth!

War of the Lions has slowdown in places, and many times the sounds don't quite match the action onscreen due to the slowdown. Still, though, it's vastly improved over the original PS1 release if for nothing but the translation alone.

"Vastly Improved" as in having your gameplay interrupted every 4 seconds..sure.

Original FFT is great, but the port is crap. The funniest part is that if you play the original FFT on PsP using a ps1 emulator, it's perfectly fine.

You can get the best of both worlds. There's a patch available now that can put the new translation into the PSX version, then you could probably run it on an emulator on the PSP. There are also rebalancing patches out (my favorite is LFT) that improve the game a lot if it's not your first play-through. With the exception of a few very specific fights, FFT was always too easy.

It's a turn-based strategy game. The slowdown I had was slight, anyway. Never enough to bother me or add more than maybe 30-40 seconds to a 10-minute battle, and that's worst-case.

I knew the slowdown thing was going to come up. Yes, the PSP version would be better without it. But I'd rather have the official, "use the whole damn screen" version without the painful Engrish text, over the nerfed-difficulty North American PSOne version. I've played both. I know what I'm asking for.

Also, thanks for the tip, Skorin, but if I can't run it on my stock Go without subjecting it to unnatural firmware acts, it's no good to me. :)
