The league needs cellar-dwellers, so I'm in.

I've never participated in a fantasy sports league before, but I got back into baseball for the first time since I was ten or so two years ago. So I'm interested, but have no clue how or where to start, and I haven't memorized anyone's stats or anything. Is this fairly newbie-friendly?

I would say so. It's a weekly league so you set your lineup by Sunday for the week. That means you don't have to stream pitchers to be competitive. We'll do a live draft but if you just let the computer select your team it will do a decent job.

In a league this size, the auto-draft won't screw you as much as it would in a larger draft. Just make sure you remove injured players from the auto-pick list. With that said, I'm in.

Also, Tromik, read through the articles that are on Yahoo's fantasy site. You'll get tons on beginner draft strategies, suggestions on where to draft certain positions, and their "expert" opinions on projections for the upcoming season. The reason that's in quotes is because you're bound to pick some stud who just bombs out.

Oh, what the hell, why not. I can't do much worse than I did in our football league. Plus it'll give me a reason to watch more baseball this year :)

(that said, if we wind up with an odd number of teams, I'll drop out)

I'm in as the Perfectos. Try to improve on my 10th-place finish from the summer of 2007...

It's fillling up fast. Only 3 more spots to fill. If we have more interest, we can always bump the number of teams up.

Ah, cool! I'll go ahead and designate El Hombre as your draft pick. :)

...and he'll finally blow out that elbow and be out for the season by tax day. No thanks! Bad juju and all....

    I'm in...again. Is this year 3 or 4?

I completely dominated last year until I forgot to update my injured players during the playoffs. ;)

Grabbing ARod several rounds into it last year was huge for me because with Pujols, he made an unstoppable offense.

I actually plugged in the history this year under the "All Time" tab. Congrats on your win last year, you lead pretty much from wire-to-wire.

You had to manually enter that? I couldn't seem to pull up our previous years.

I always (always!) go into with the idea that I'm going to be really into it. But the season is so long and my life is so busy that I usually become mostly inactive by midway through the season. Maybe this year will be different. I really love the idea of fantasy baseball...

I've never done any fantasy sports before, but I'll give it a shot. I miss baseball and the Giants, so hard to watch games up here and pay attention to all that is happening.

Because there's been such interest, I bumped it up to 12 teams. There are 2 spots left.

    Chiba Lotte Diddums

Snagged the last slot. I love head-to-head fantasy, although I haven't played fantasy baseball in years. I'll assume nothing's changed since 2003 and Eric Gagne locks down the SV category.

Yep, Gagne is nails. Draft him early. You can also help yourself in saves by snagging Jason Isringhausen and Derrick Turnbow. Grab 'em both!

Since the league filled up so quickly, I bumped the draft up to this Friday evening. If that creates an undue hardship for anyone, let me know.

With each team only getting 2 minutes per pick, it tends to go fast. You can also drop out at anytime and the computer will make the rest of your picks.

Why this Friday? I already made arrangements to draft on Saturday the 27th and cannot do it at all this Friday.

No problem. I was just moving it along. I'll kick it back to the original date.

The Peatheads showed up for the draft just in time to pick our bench. Doh!

Argh! I thought it was next Saturday! I've been laid up with a cold, so I'd have had plenty of time to spend with the laptop.

I guess I should see who the CPU chose for me... Three 100+ RBI guys, last season, in the forms of Victor Martinez, Prince Fielder, and Carlos Pena. Brandon Philips and Shane Victorino each stole 25 bases, so that might be nice. What are we scoring on, anyway?

I haven't really heard of either of my starting pitchers, but Tim Linceum looks like he's got what it takes.

I wanted Tim Licecum, actually I would have probably taken all Giants if I could have. He'll have good numbers, and hopefully the Giants will support him with some runs this season so he can actually get some more wins especially when he's pitching those 1 run games.

Crud! I forgot our draft was last night. Time to go see what bad picks I've got...
