If anything, the impressive visuals being shown by pirates capturing video and screenshots is making me more likely to buy the game.

How is that possible? You can't like game videos without proper editing and a popular song played over top of it.
New "story" trailer

Pretty nifty, though overly-dramatic of course.
"fuuuuuuck Crysis 2 looks amazing. a ton of stuff you'll see in the story trailer and think is pre-rendered isn't."
You guys didn't expect Crysis 2 to look good? That was the one part of the game that was pretty much a given, imo.
Crytek has been showing off the visuals for over 6 months now. You didn't need the pirates to see how it was turning out.
Yeah, I had no doubt that the PC version would look like a genuine "Crysis 2", based on what PC Gamer has been saying forever, but all of the screenshots and videos released before this leak were of the console versions. There's never actually been any PC footage to convince the more skeptical that Crytek would do the PC version justice.
Bill Harris posted an extremely interesting piece of information on his blog today:
In case you missed it, here's what happened last week (thanks, RPS):
...a developer build of Crysis 2 containing the full game, multiplayer and the master key for the online authentication has been leaked, and is currently freely available from all sorts of astonishingly illegal websites.
That, in itself, is not something I would normally write about. However, I received an e-mail from a source who wishes to remain anonymous (for obvious reasons), and here's what they said:
They have no internal security. Just about any employee could have leaked that build, and they (the Yerlis) aren't exactly diplomatic about firing people. They should feel lucky that the source didn't leak, as that would be only a little bit more difficult to get out of the building.
That's certainly more interesting.
The source is someone who has e-mailed for years, and I have no reason to doubt their sincerity.
So should I play the other Crysis games first?
Did you enjoy the Descent games? If you did, then you should definitely play Crysis. I liked most of it, but I loved the last 3rd of the game, because it becomes similar to the Descent games in more ways than one. If you're not a fan of Descent one way or another, you'll probably still like the first two thirds of Crysis, as well as all of Crysis: Warhead if you like fast paced first person shooters.
It took me a while to start liking Crysis though because I started on the hardest difficulty, and the game just doesn't let you experiment much with suit powers on that difficulty. Power runs out really fast, and so does your health. I'd either start the game on Normal or mess with the files outside the game so that suit energy doesn't drain as fast, so you can experiment a little and play around with suit powers more. That's where the game is unique over other shooters, so it makes sense to accentuate that aspect of the game more.
So yeah, it can be tough to get into it at the beginning, but it's definitely worth it. Just keep your expectations in check: it's still a linear first person shooter with wider corridors than normal, it's not a sandbox game.
I really don't see the connection between Crysis and the Descent games.
Warhead is an expandalone to Crysis. You should play those two in order.
Crysis 2 should, as far as I know, share nothing by the setting with the first two games, so it shouldn't matter whether you play it before or after the first game.
Crysis & Warhead are by far the best free-roaming single player shooters I've tried. If that's your kind of thing they are absolutely worth playing. Indeed, you'll likely be replaying them on & off for the next several years (I have been). They're kind of an inverse-Bethesda, in that there's a fairly limited amount of stuff to do, but the depth of the gameplay is such that you can keep playing through the same content in fun new ways for a very long time.
I can see where Rock8man is coming from with the Descent comparison, but despite the similarities it plays nothing like Descent. While the AI in Crysis is a beautiful thing to behold in the exteriors, it is shockingly stupid in the corridor portions. So stupid that the devs had to reduce your mobility by 50% while increasing the mobility of your opponents by a factor of 5 (I'm not even sure I'm exaggerating).
Don't worry, the corridor bits are some of the most compelling non-porn you can currently feast your eyes on, so I pretty much guarantee you'll enjoy playing through them the first time. But the gameplay in those sections is, at best, forgettable.
Is Hans Zimmer composing Crysis 2 ?
I am not sure, but it sure sounds great.

Day 1 buy then.
It certainly has Zimmer's style to it. And wow, holy shit at the story trailer. The visuals are incredible.
I was playing Warhead for my 5-year-old nephew yesterday and he just kept going "Wow." First time he had seen it. Fantastic game, and equally fantastic looking.
I think Crysis and Warhead have the best explosions in gaming. Just watch the effect when something explodes. It's even better if you're too close to the explosion; probably the best concussive effect I've seen in gaming. (I've got it cranked up at Max/Enthusiast settings at 1920x1200x2aa. God bless the Radeon 6950.)
My only complaint with the visuals in the Crysis games are the water splash effects. Especially the terminus of a waterfall or a pouring spout. Everything else looks so good, but that looks so distinctly primitive.
You can even see it in the story trailer when the camara is right next to a broken pipe or something that's pouring water onto some rubble.
Seriously, people.

Wow, I'm impressed. Paul was able to recognize Hans Zimmer by sound. The only composer I can do that with is Aaron Copeland. I can listen to something of his that I've never heard of his and say "hey, that sounds like Aaron Copeland", and be correct.
Were you able to do that with Modern Warfare 2 Paul? Because I thought Zimmer's score in that game was pretty generic, except for the No Russian level, where even the score added to the dread that made me want to throw up.
I have not played Modern Warfare 2 yet (still waiting for never coming price drop, thanks Actard). But I own many of Zimmer's soundtracks and it sounded very reminiscent of Dark Knight/Batman Begins/Inception to me.
I love his music.
Zimmer sounds pretty distinctive to me. As does John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith, Howard Shore, and Danny Elfman.
I had no trouble identifying the music in the trailer as either Zimmer or someone doing a good attempt at his style.
Can't wait for the OST to come to Spotify. I loved his MW2 soundtrack, and this sounds even more epic.
Edit: Rock8man, listen to "Extraction Point" from MW2. There's nothing generic about it (especially towards the end).
I COME HERE TO SHOT MANS & KICK TURTLALS, NOT LISTINS TO FROOTY MUZICS LOL
Admit it: half of the folks looking forward to Crysis 2 just want something to justify their $300 video card purchase :)
I don't thinka game is worth the cost of a 300$ dollar graphic card. Crysis 2 or whatever else.
Now, 50 games? Then it's worth it.
That's why i buy gaming cards, not for one game, but for every game.
