So USC is done testifying and now they await their fate.

Moreover, if USC is found guilty of major violations, the NCAA also could rule that the Trojans are "repeat violators." Per NCAA rules, "An institution shall be considered a 'repeat' violator if the Committee on Infractions finds that a major violation has occurred within five years of the starting date of a major penalty."

The athletic program was last sanctioned in August of 2001, so if the Bush allegations are found to be major violations, they would fall within that time frame.

So a lot is at stake.

And yet ANOTHER Duck kicked off the team!!!

What's hilarious is that, save for the infamous Blount punch, all of these arrests and dismissals have happened in the past three weeks. You'd have thought they had won their first Rose Bowl in 93 years the way these kids are tearing up Eugene.

It is going to take a long time for people to understand the dangers of public social media websites. It's best to just keep it to yourself.

That guy needs to do something else for a living, maybe become a rap star or something. I'd really be surprised if he would ever be drafted in the NFL, no matter what his talent level.

    Heh..

ESPN is awesome for prime time games, but I want to stab myself in the face at 11:00 EST some mornings as they proudly begin coverage of Wake Forest vs Duke On ESPN and Purdue vs Northwestern on ESPN2.

Citadel QB commits armed robbery against an assistant coach -- so bad it's almost not even funny like the usual offseason crimes.

    From EDSBS:

This discussion about ranked teams not playing each other enough is tedious, but I love that chart so much I had to post it.

I'm sending you a bill for my visit to the eye doctor. That thing is a monstrosity.

Now that the BCS rankings are more human based with an underemphasis on SOS, schools have reverted back to their cupcake schedules. Why we need an optical illusion chart to illustrate this is beyond me.

My God, which thread to use?

I saw on ESPN that the Erin Andrews stalker got 2 and a half years in jail. Sounds like emotions are still high about the issue. What a shame. But EA will be moving on with plans to do Dancing with the Stars next season, which is interesting.

A cynical person would view this as a case of fleeing a burning building.

I don't think that requires much cynicism at all. I'm guessing he was feeling some serious pressure from regents and other sources. Its called "tucking your tail between your legs and slinking out the door."

At least he's willing to take some responsibility for things, unlike the players who he mostly is responsible for recruiting. Barring a major turn of events, I'd guess that Kelly will be gone after next season as well.

Nike money can only buy you so much.

So less than a year ago, Bellotti signed on to be Oregon's AD.

Last month, he suddenly resigned to go work for ESPN. This while the Oregon Football team was imploding due to so many arrests.

Well, it turns out, when you quit the job you've been on for less than a year, you get $2.3 million severance, or at least Bellotti did. That's not making the Oregon taxpayers very happy, so now the Oregon justice department is stepping in after the public learned of...

    http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/news/story?id=5040095

The resignation agreement, including the payout terms, finally was placed on paper and signed by Bellotti on March 16, with Lariviere signing it March 19.

Bellotti acknowledged Monday that he and the school had a "handshake agreement," according to the newspaper.

"There was never a written contract that I signed," Bellotti told the Register-Guard. "There were some oral agreements."

Dunno about OR, but here in CA an employee's verbal agreement can be pretty much binding. If the employer's in agreement with it, it'd be pretty tough to argue he shouldn't get it.

$2.3 million of state money on a verbal agreement is a bit much. Someone's supposed to know better.

And Bellotti quit to pursue a cushy cable job, he wasn't fired. Sort of insane he gets severance.

If I lived in Oregon, I'd be pretty pissed the school gave him that much severance money too, not to mention that $200 million basketball arena they are building.

What is it with the University of Oregon and their gentlemen's agreements? Do they not believe in paper up there in that state?

I agree with all of the above. That doesn't mean there's anything the state AG can do about it.

On the other hand, I'd be surprised if there are no consequences for the University. If I were UO's president, I'd be polishing up the ol' CV right about now.

    This is kind of funny:

The terms of the deal call for $600,000 to be paid to Bellotti on May 1, with the rest in monthly payments of $25,000.
Well fuck, dude! Why even work at ESPN with a monthly income like that? $25,000 a month will buy a lot of golf, cigars, and 25 year-old scotch!

U of O is really into conservation.

Anyway, the root problem is Bellotti was forced to retire before he really wanted to, because Oregon wanted to ensure Chip Kelly didn't get poached for a head coaching position somewhere else. As to the source of the money, I wouldn't be surprised if the checks weren't signed by Phil Knight.
