Brian, thanks for the Grundy and Darkseid info. I was not aware of Grundy's presence in the rest of DC. I just saw him in Batman's trades a lot and figured he was a semi-exclusively (as exclusive as any comic character at DC/Marvel can be) part of Batman's world. He just didn't seem powerful enough to do anything against Superman.

I do know about Kandor! Woo! Confession time - The only reason I know about it is because Braniac and Kandor are in my big Superman digest of old 1940's and 50's comics. I knew Braniac was still big, but I always assumed the Kandor stuff had been left by the wayside as being too hokey along with the Super-chimp and Jimmy Olsen's superpowers.

JLA or no JLA, if they work Darkseid into a movie, I hope they work this nifty bit into it.

I agree Braniac would be great, but I guess I'll settle for a script that does not contain the phrase "real estate."

Me. Those are the best superman stories, where his weaknesses are shown in other areas. He may be a god with his powers, but even he can not solve the world's problems...unless he takes it over.

There are a lot of good morality, society and so on issues that having a living god among humans that can be explored.

Sadly, most people settle for having superman beat people up...which is extremely dumb, since the only way to make that interesting it to have superman either be dumber than a rock or hold back. Both of which pretty describes all of the superman movies so far...

Myself, I would love to see a superman movie based in some sort of reality. Like an Ultimate Superman (All Stars was pretty good for awhile) or Supreme or something like that. Where you can not have giant battles in cities because when you do, you kill hundreds of people. Where you can not just around doing whatever, because governments do not like that and place bans on you, etc.

There is a huge depth to explore. You can still have beat 'em up battles and so on, but make that a side note to the main flow of the story where Superman tries figure out his morality while being assaulted by humans both demanding more (save us!) and less (do not stop us from doing X things!).

edit: Red Son is a good example, though was an alternate universe type deal.

That would make a fantastic movie, and I really think it would work, even with the general audiences. Would probably just need to write Braniac out.
