Go see a fucking optometrist lady. You do not fuck around when it comes to your eyes.
That is how hard core I am.
Seriously, though, anyone here have dry eyes? How do you combat them? If I put drops in my eyes, will my eyes end up forgetting how to make their own lubrication?

I think you're playing your guitar wrong.
Everyone knows that QT3 is an acceptable alternative to doctors.
Where's that pic of the insect on the eyeball?
Systane drops. No they aren't addictive. And they work like a champ.
EDIT: Almost forgot, they are over the counter. You can get stuff prescribed as well, I have no idea what the differences are.
Short answer: Go see an eye doctor.
Longish answer: Avoid eye drops with preservatives in them, since you're not supposed to put these in your eyes too much. Avoid Visine, which can cause problems with interocular pressure if used too much. Refresh works fairly well on mild problems, Refresh Plus is better but comes in individual ampules that can only be used a couple of times, which makes it much more expensive. If those don't do the job, your eye doctor will need to give you a prescription to something like Lotemax or Restasis, which are far more expensive, but they will definitely make a huge difference.
Again, go see an eye doctor. Using the wrong type of eye drops or too much of them can make the problem worse, or cause other problems.
One of the seldom stressed consequences of lasik: any pre-op problems with dry eyes will tend to get much worse post-op. So I've had plenty of experience with dry eye problems over the past decade.
Not an optometrist, an ophthalmologist.
Yeah, go to the doctor. I have a friend who had dry eyes and ended rubbing them and damaging her corneas.
Well, see the doctor, but also are you drinking enough water? My main problem is that I let myself get dehydrated, and drink too many diuretics (coffee, tea, booze.)
H.
Some simple things to do before seeing the doctor:
1) For god's sake, step away from the computer once and a while. All of my dry-eye issues come from not blinking, because I'm reading, or playing ME2, or something like that.
2) Lying back with a warm wet washcloth draped over your eyes can go a long way toward alleviating eye strain and dryness.
3) As was mentioned upthread, keep yourself hydrated.
Yep.. my eyes go really dry any time I've been drinking (alcohol), which is a problem because it's usually at night and usually when I need to drive a ways home, which makes the prospect of losing a contact because of dry eyes scary. I don't go anywhere without my water bottle and rewetting drops.

If all else fails, there is a surgery where they plug one of the drains in your eye (i guess you have two per eye or something) My dry eyes were bad, but not bad enough for that.
Seriously, is every thread now going to be deluged with image posts as people try to one-up each other?
Yes.
.
This is why I browse the web with Lynx.

In my defense, I was just filling hong's request.
I've got blisters on me fingers!
Although going to a doctor is obviously important my chi/dachshund mix nearly went blind from an MRSA infection in his eyes that manifested itself as pitting and scoring of the cornea; a pretty weird and bolt-out-of-the-blue thing to happen. I'd get examined pretty quickly if you're developing calluses.
People still use Lynx instead of Links or w3m?
Why?
Edit: fuck, I guess I'm a few years behind.. sudo apt-get install elinks

Fun eyeball news, I have a Chalazion on my right eye, and after much buildup, it has finally started leaking, yay!
