I thought this was good as well. "Bad Wolf" done right.

I think you're onto something there Justin. It's still silly nonsense, but they're working it into the narrative in a way that feels like they've earned it.

I mean, did Amy remember the Daleks as well? And if they Doctor was never there how did the Earth survive?

I also love the way they've made the Doctor feel the weight of long life, but they've done it with the youngest actor. "World weary yet hopeful" is Smith's version of the "righteous angry" of Tennant.

I'm also glad they didn't feel the need to put a bow on the season. In Retrospect the show has actually lacked something because they wrapped it all up every season, then had to unravel it over and over again.

    Loved it. LOVED it.

River Song is my favorite, though Rory is also awesome. And you know? I think Matt Smith is my favorite Doctor ever.

    "I can buy a fez."

I am super, super thrilled to have two companions on board again.

Oh, and I think it's clear that River did remember the Doctor. Which I actually really liked. It's a Mystery. She's the big mystery that's stretched out over two seasons now. And I love it!

    Brilliant!

I don't know about best ever, but Matt Smith has officially passed Christopher Eccleston for my favorite of the new series. He's past Tom Baker and up there with Patrick Troughton for my favorite of all time. We just need to see him a little more to secure the spot. Can't wait for Christmas.

Love Amy. Love River. I figure River remembers because she knows his name. The power of belief and all that. Love Rory! So glad he's on board as a permanent companion. God, please, don't eff that one up, guys.

Now we just need mkowzlows and Desslock, maybe Hugin, to pop in and say how it was crap or mediocre and we'll officially know that it was basically ten pounds of awesome in a five pound bag.

Oh, and there's a certain sumbitch who owes me 800 Microsoft points.

I liked it. Let's face it, the restoration field was pretty much the deus ex machina, yet still it was good fun all the way throughout. They certainly lifted some of the dark moments pretty much instantly. Some classic stuff. Though the duck pond thing was never explained. The River thing at the wedding is still the biggest ??? moment--how did she know/remember?

Rory is back and non-plastic I guess. They'll probably kill him off in the Christmas special then bring him back at the beginning of next season.

Sorry mate, I was emphatically agreeing with you. Going back in the thread I can see how you might be confused.

I was waiting the entire episode for the duck pond to make an appearance. I guess the duckies just fell through some time cracks.

I loved it and hate that I have to wait till Christmas for more. I remember seeing that first picture of Matt Smith and thinking it was horrible this kid was going to be playing the Doctor, but now I want to have his babies. :)

With Amy and Rory having the memories of their previous adventures, does this mean Rory is older than the Doctor?

It was a really great ending. I loved the stuff about the Legend of the Centurion who had been protecting the Pandorica for 2 thousand years. But Karen Gillan is sick hot so I've been thinking, "I would wait 2000 years, and I would wait 2000 more, just to be the man who waits 4000 years for Amy Pond in the Pandorica. La di dum da!"

Also, having recently caught up on all the modern Doctor Who episodes I have to say Matt Smith is easily my favorite doctor. And Amy Pond is by far the best companion. The End of Time specials also, make a lot more sense now. I had originally started watching Doctor Who with the Waters of Mars which, in retrospect, was a very strange place to try and jump in for someone with no prior knowledge of the show in any incarnation. But now I'm like, "oh, that's who all those people were!"

Also, what was the Pandorica's propulsion system, exactly?

I know they mention that it involves the time bracelet, but really?

I was thinking the same thing. Although I can't remember for certain, it seems as if the Doctor has been in the same sort of situation before himself (i.e. living thousands of years before being restored in his present day body), so he'd still be up on Rory.

Either way, I hope this affords Rory a little more respect (which it looks it will, with the Doctor's "the Boy who Waited" bit). It should also make him a bit more capable, what with having a Roman centurion's training in warfare and any additional knowledge and wisdom he picked up through the millennia. But hopefully he doesn't lose any of his wonderfully underplayed Rory-ness.

Not in canon, as I can remember. Happened to Captain Jack though.

There's a great run in the BBC novels where McGann's Doctor is trapped in "real time" for 100 years while he waits for the Tardis to regrow itself, but we can assume that it has no bearing on our current TV time-lord.

Previous episode was a bit shaky but it all came together in the end. It's funny how Rory turned out to be a fantastic addition. Is there anyone left who actually prefers Tennant to Smith?

The Doctor could have teleported himself and the box directly from A to B.

But, since the girls had destroyed his fez, he knew that it was necessary to look cool by leaving in a trail of sparkles, and by sending the message "Geronimo", after he'd promised not to use that catchphrase again in the season opener.

SPOILERS for those not up to date with the British.

Loved the connections with the rest of the season.

And gotta give credit to the people who spotted the two different doctors in the Weeping Angels episodes. Admit it, you were reading spoilers, weren't you?

Not after the scene in the Pandorica, saying goodbye to Amy. That look on Smith's face had more weight than any of the "I'm so, SO sorry" speeches Tennant ever made. And I happened to like Tennant.

Smith really looked all of The Doctor's 900 years in that scene -- fantastic work there.

Back on topic, I loved the finale. Made this fairly uneven yet entertaining season all worth it, and left pleeeeeeeeeeeeenty open for next season.

My crush on River Song also got a lot bigger.

Oh fuck - when did Orbital get back together?!? Mind you, I loved Paul Hartnoll's solo album - but...Orbital...

This video made my weekend. Did Smith know what he was doing on the console back there or was he just twiddling around?

Well I like this show too, doesn't that lead toward some sort of paradox?

That was... awesome. Really not much else to say. Everything I wanted to see. I really like the addition of Rory, and I hope he sticks on next season as well. Also, keeping River Song on as a main character is great too, I really like Alex Kingston in that role.

    :)

    Can't wait till december.

Tragically, I have to disappoint you by saying that the episode was great, not only the best episode of this season by a mile, but also right up there with Moffat's great episodes from previous seasons. It's like Epitaph One on the first season of Dollhouse, just so much better than everything else around it.

I can't catch up with this thread yet because I've still only seen the first three episodes of the Mat Smith run, but I wanted to mention that last month Eccleston was reported to have very briefly described to BBC News how things went down when he left the show. Obviously, from his own perspective. Confirms what I'm sure many people suspected/thought/knew. (I'm sure everyone here is up to speed but just in case, I did a cursory search first.)

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertain...s/10312426.stm

Tangent: this got me fantasizing about the possibility of him taking the role again some day in the future through some sort of story development shenanigans. I suppose this would be a questionable undertaking, but I think it would be kind of neat.
