Oh, so you didn't snag it from the old Kelly Labrock commercials from the 80's? ^_~

I still play occasional games of Master of Orion, and games of MOO2 on a less regular basis. Both games are still great. I personally prefer MOO since it plays much faster than MOO2 (you can finish a game in a few hours), so I go back to it more despite the sequel's greater complexity.

Only when my self-declared arch-nemesis, Bahimiron, is around. ;)

Just stumbled upon something a few of you might find interesting. As far as I can tell Vintage Gamer Club has been going for little over a year and focus on playing through old, classic games as a community.

Although they are playing through Bioshock at the moment which is by no definition an old game, its still worth a look if you are interested. A new game will be picked for Feb 9th so you'll get a chance to weigh in on your favourite if Bioshock isn't your thing.

They have already played through Chrono Trigger, Alpha Centuri, Dues Ex, Thief, Grim Fandango, Beyond Good & Evil, OddWorld: Abe's Oddysee and Majora's Mask.

No, I did not make that game.

But I know how the Atari 8-bit's graphics work so I know the bottom stuff must be a font (and I vaguely remember being unfamiliar with the phi and theta at the time); and I recognize the system font because it was used in most games/apps/whatever on it. And I know the Atari 8-bit well because it was my first computer, and I know Star Raiders well because it was the decisive factor in my family buying an Atari instead of an Apple.

However, I did make this game.

So I'm pretty confident when I say the person who made it was influenced by Star Raiders in its design. (For example the enemy ship movements were a little more like SR than like WC.)

Come to think of it, I remember playing the Ultima Underworld demo, and I hated the interface even back then.
It is unfortunate that the interface is as painful as it is, since I much prefer SS1 to SS2.

As to Underworld, it's in my top list for the 1990s; in fact I replayed it in 2000.

Well perhaps Zylon had simply read the following quote from the author on this website...

"...for the CD game I outdid myself with a relatively complete Wing Commander minigame, Wing 0--written just before Wing 3 was released, it's both an homage and a parody, featuring, for example, one pacifistic wingman who refuses to fight (and strangely never gets attacked either, because he's actually a traitor!!!), a mission where you get something like 8 wingmen, and a final 'aww, what the heck, let's send you out by yourself to defeat their entire armada' mission."

Been replaying Magic Carpet recently, and yes, it holds up very well. I'm still impressed by the terrain deformation, which is probably more a criticism of modern design focus than it is a compliment to Bullfrog.

Such a great game - so intense, limping back to base with no shields. Actually wanted the Wing Commander games to be more like Star Raiders, with its dynamic "campaign", and having to plot where you were most needed. Played it on both the Atari 400 computer and the Atari 5200 console (the only console I owned until current gen) -- Star Raiders and Dreadnought Factor http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dreadnaught_Factor were both on the 5200 and remain two of my favorite games ever (also Miner 2049er on that platform).

Heroes II Gold. I still love both the way it looks and sounds, as well as the gameplay.
