    Steven Seagal's Lawman.

Premieres this Wed, Dec 2nd, 10 PM A&E.

Holy shit, Seagal is was actually deputized by some local sheriff or something and is going out on patrol. If this doesn't end up with some thug beating him up or him breaking someone's arm, I'm going to be very disappointed. I think I need a Seagal movie marathon to set me in the right frame of mind.

"I'm gonna to take you to the bank . . . the blood bank."

    What a laugh riot.

What I'm not understanding about this is that (based on the way they're promoting the show) they're making it sound like he's been doing this for a decade or something, secretly. It's really weird, I can't figure out if the show is a total joke or if it's taking itself seriously.

Wasn't he accused of abusing Kelly LeBrock when they were married? I can't seem to find any confirmation he was ever charged with anything, so maybe it was all just tabloid fodder; but if he has a real history of violent outbursts this could make for some interesting television..... for all the wrong reasons.

Is that why he's been photographed with Sheriff Joe Arpaio?

Eeh, that rings a bell, but like you I don't think anything ever came of it.

However Seagal can still whip an inordinate amount of ass if he has to, simply by being a big, big guy and thoroughly trained in his youth. He was no joke when he got his start, he just let himself go. I wouldn't bet on him in the UFC, but against a drunk guy getting frisky during a traffic stop? I predict Seagal will be in legal trouble post-haste.

There's an animated gif around somewhere of Stephen Seagal shooting up a playground or something that feels appropriate right about now.

    EDIT: Here it is

I wouldn't click on it unless you're not offended by blood-packs being used on child actors.

I heard that eighty percent of the audience had walked out by the end of the third song when he performed in LA.

Saw some previews of this over the weekend and I was kinda floored. He was teaching some martial arts techniques to his men to help them survive or whatever. It's real... I think. And I think it's one of those positions where you get elected into it... not surprising I suppose.

Ah according to wiki he's currently a deputy sheriff in Jefferson Parish. According to a press statement he's been working as an officer in the parish for "over two decades."

This seems like it has the potential to be awesome. Be sure to report back when you've watched the pilot. I'll hold off until then.

YES, that. Now I remember, they talked about it on the radio ads I've heard for the show.

So seriously, is this a joke? There's no way he's been in Louisiana for 2 decades doing police work without having this made the news at some point.

This just in: Van Damme has been working for Brussels airport security for the last 10 years. And Chuck Norris is a dog catcher.

I believe "working as an officer" means that he has been conducting seminars on hand-to-hand combat, self defense, and subduing criminals for the police, during which time he was paid and also deputized. He has probably also done a number of ride-alongs or even assisting as road blocks/drunk checks. I doubt his previous experience included much actual patrolling... they saved that for this TV show.

I'd watch this if it were actually being filmed in Oakland.

I just hope at least some perp's elbow gets broken. Bonus if the perp is caught dumping toxins or doing something to ruin the environment.

As a long time fan of Palyul Monastery's 17th century tertön, Chungdrag Dorje, I'm completely jazzed for this show featuring his reincarnation. While I'm certain Segal won't disappoint in busting skulls and fighting crimes, I do hope that my favorite Tulku carries on his predecessor's tradition of finding sacred treasures and unlocking the ancient teachings of the long forgotten Buddhas of ages past. I'm certain that Jefferson Parish is rife with these hidden objects of religious and cultural importance.

Apparently Seagal has been acknowledged as the reincarnation of the Palyul Monastery's 17th century tertön, Chungdrag Dorje.

I can't decide whether this show is fake or not. How are they getting shots of the chases from so many angles? I'm suspicious.

The only thing that makes it seem legit is they tase the shit out of people.

How can I possibly watch this when Jesse Ventura is investigating conspiracy theories at the same time on another channel? I know I should watch one, Tivo the other, but which to watch first?

Well... I don't think it's fake. A few of the camera shots are edited in such a way to seem in sequence when they really aren't, and probably out of context as well. The production crew seems to be the same one that does The First 48 (and coincidentally they borrow much of the same music and audio cues), so I don't think they're doing anything abnormally fake. When they show the carjacking chase, I'm sure they had cameras all over and probably just wasn't the Parish sheriffs were involved.

Seagal does seem however to the abominable aikido sheriff, lumbering in and out of unmarked patrol SUVs, using his yellow-tint glasses to aid his failing night vision while huffing and puffing after would-be criminals and suspected ninja assassins who if only they knew who he was they'd stop and ask for his autograph.

Maybe that's a little harsh, but aside from providing some valuable training wisdom, I don't think he really brings that much, aside from his ability to zero in on suspects in a flash of slow-motion video. My big "oh come on" part was in the first episode, where one of the sheriffs is facing weapons qualifications and needs practice and maybe a better shooting stance/technique. Seagal is eager to help, even so much as to telling the poor guy that the front post should point straight at where he wants to shoot. OMG REALLY??? The sheriff also shoots with seemingly a variety of pistols, making practicing qualifying while not using your own personal weapon kind of silly.

Oh, the two-frame shot of Seagal hitting the match head with a bullet is a little funky--the head disappears but the stick itself, in the middle, suddenly juts out in a jagged angle, then in the next frame it pops back into place. Weird.

It's not fake, he has been a deputy in Jefferson Parish for about 20 years -- he just has never made a big deal about it. The main reason he said he is doing the series now?

I've been working as an officer in Jefferson Parish for two decades under most people's radar. I've decided to work with A&E on this series now because I believe it's important to show the nation all the positive work being accomplished here in Louisiana - to see the passion and commitment that comes from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office in this post-Katrina environment.

The intro in the first episode pretty much explains it. There's fake and then there's fake, however.

And BTW apparently his official title is Reserve Deputy Chief I think.

Why does Dwight Schrute come to mind?
