    Shopping cart software

Anyone know a good inexpensive/free shopping cart program? I'm not looking for a hosted solution or payment processing, just something that will let me set up items for purchase and generate an email or some other report when an order is placed.

    Thanks

I used to use OSCommerce back in the day. I think it is still around and when I used it it was pretty flexible. Also the best part is that it was free.

Not sure what sort of site you are running, but since I know Drupal best I'll start there:

For standalone alternatives to OSCommerce, you might also check out Zen Cart

    All free, I think.

I had to reflash the BIOS on one of my shopping carts once to fix a wheel rattling issue.

Moral of the story-- don't overclock them.

I'll tell you which one I'd never use: VirtueMart. Many bad experiences with either the entire item database doubling, or disappearing. Poof, gone, vanished.

Zen Cart is OK. I'm a Drupal fan too, but the Ecommerce module was a bit clunky to set up last time I tried it. No one-step form to add a product.

Yeah, I would probably recommend you pass on the Drupal Ecommerce module unless it offers some obscure feature you can't get elsewhere. Among other things, it's not even ready for Drupal 6 and Drupal 7 is right around the corner.

I have no personal experience with this but my friends use and recommend Magento and Satchmo.
