I just remembered I de-installed....and I had the CD versions...I think. Better have a book handy when I get started back.
I wish they'd lower the sub fee of some of these older MMOs. I liked EQ2 quite a bit when I played, but I just can't mentally justify two subscriptions at $15 per and I'm not canceling my WoW sub.
If I could subscribe for even $9, I'd probably be all over this. I've heard some of the newer starting zones are just awesome.

Tyjenks, EQ Map Updater is either similar or the same thing, I'm not sure. When I first got into the game (Echoes of Faydwer era), EQ2Map was the program to use. Also, I believe Timorous Deep was added as part of a regular game update.
By the way, I'm glad we're doing Timorous Deep and not Kelethin. Stupid trees... (that, and I already played a character through that content many moons ago).
I would love to join in. I've been under the weather the last few days so I am a bit late to post.
While I was in Timorous Deep, I noticed that it's missing a lot of the 'Good' side class trainers. Will that actually matter, or will we not really need them with the automatic skill granting on levels? I can't remember if we actually need to talk to them aside from the option of purchasing higher ranks of spells.
Can't say I remember ever talking to a class-trainer when I originally played, though that was a couple of years ago. Ability upgrades can be obtained via the auction house.
You'll be fine with a new character in Timorous Deep, as new abilities are granted automatically, and as Douglas said, upgrades are either looted, bought off the broker (AH) or crafted.
Timorous Deep requires the Rise of Kunark expansion which came out in the fall of 2007 (they've had one since, The Shadow Odyssey, but it is pretty much all high-end content)

Better info on how to get to Timorous Deep (stolen from the SA thread):
Edit: Hmmm, maybe they've changed things since this list was put together. The final griffon to Chikori Island put me west of the newbie camp and with some high-level (to a newbie) monsters in the way. I went south, crossed the beach, and swam the rest of the way around to the east side instead.Freeport: Turn around and talk to the captain on the boat and exit to Freeport. Click on the magic carpet in East Freeport on the docks that takes you to Sinking Sands. Right click the carpet in SS and choose Timorous Deep. Ride the Griffon to Chikori Island and run south to the starting area.
Qeynos: Turn around and talk to the captain on the boat and exit to Qeynos. Click on the magic carpet in Qeynos harbor on the docks and take it to Sinking Sands. Once there right click the carpet and go to BB Mtns. Run down along the beach until you see a ramp going up made out of sand. Take the griffon there on the beach to TD. Take the nearby griffon to Chikori Island and run south to the starting area.
Kelethin: Gfay > Butcherblock Mountains > Ride the Griffon on the beach to TD > Ride the nearby griffon to Chikori Island and run south.
Neriak: Take the magic carpet in DLW (run west to the fair) to Sinking Sands. Right click the carpet there and go to TD. Once there hike over the hill and up to the nearby griffon tower and take that to Chikori Island.

That's a good point. I used a trial + key in Lotro to get full functionality (I think). I was planning on doing the same thing in EQ2. That is, start a trial and then enter a retail key to upgrade the trial to full functionality without losing any trial days. I might be wrong in assuming that will also work in EQ2, though. Another possibility is to start a referral trial, which I assume will give more functionality than a regular trial and could end up giving a free month to the person who issued the referral.
Some mention has been made of map systems, and yesterday I just happened to read a review of the Shadow expansion. It said the latest expansion has a revision of EQ2's map system, including a new search function for locating NPCs and areas. I have no first-hand knowledge of it, though.
Kal
The person who refers you gets a month free if you subscribe within a month of the end of your trial. Also, like WoW, you both receive a 3x EXP multiplier if grouped together which might be nice if we could get a consistent group going! There are some other benefits as well.
So very tempting - and I just quit WoW!
You lose all remaining trial days the moment you upgrade. And I doubt referral trials are any less limited - certainly weren't in WoW - although they have some perks. Finally, you can just pay for a subscription and start playing from a trial account - it's content complete through Kunark. At this point TSO is only $20, though, which is a better deal.
Every now and again I re-up my EQ2 account. Seems like a good time to do it again - count me in.
I'm Eastern and kids go to bed around 9:00, so 6:30 Pacific should be good for me to get a couple hours in.
Sure. What's your character's name?
If I'm on noodling around with an established character, it's most likely to be Coglok, Iggo or Bitesy.
Also, feel free to root through the guild bank and take whatever you like. It's an oddball assortment of stuff.
My in-game is Nekura, I sent you a message on Iggo but I guess you were afk and then went offline.
By the way, how do I set my recall point in Timorous Deep? I did a little bit of forum trolling and it sounds like I had to talk to someone in Qeynos first, but I'm not sure.
Well just for fun I made an Erudite Wizard named Balanga. He's hanging out in Timorous Deep. I went with the free trial and I will probably end up buying the game. I may not be the most consistent but I'm good to be there at least the first several times we play. I'm central time so I may get sleepy and have to bail.
I really forgot all about the game so I'm basically starting from scratch.
Was gonna load up and re-sub tonight, but who knew Miley would do an encore. ;)
Hopefully tomorrow. WIll check in here and with your toons Creole if I get everything sorted out.
Sorry, Douglas, had the headphones off so I never heard the /tell and zone chat was rather lively so it probably scrolled off the screen before I saw it. Will get the invite out when I login next.
I don't think I ever set my recall point to anything other than my home city -- I'm not even sure if it's possible to do otherwise. I recall taking a froglok ranger through Timorous Deep and he always recalled to Qeynos.
So are we supposed to be at a certain place or level by Thursday? Or basically make the character and then wait till we all start so we're at the same place?
From what I understand, the idea at the moment is to all start from level 1 at Timorous Deep. However, if you literally create your character at Timorous Deep, you'll be prevented from selecting the Good only classes (such as Illusionist). The solution is to start a good-class character at Qeynos and hoof it to TD using the instructions earlier in the thread; if you need help, let me know and I'll escort you, but it's a pretty easy trip. The only reason I leveled to 10 is because I won't be around for the first day.
What Douglas said. It won't make much difference in the early going if you gain a level or two, as long as we all meet up in Timorous Deep.
There are also some races (of both alignments) that can't start in Timorous Deep. For example, both the evil and good faerie races (good starts in Kelethin, evil in Neriak). I don't know if these leads to any evil classes being unavailable.
