Yes indeed, today's the big day! It's raining right now but they are expecting a clear spot in just an hour or so.
All the tweets are linked from here. I am all agog! Except I'm going swimming with the kiddos in a few minutes... hopefully when I return they will have nailed it! FINALLY! Go go Armadillo!
(If you don't know what I'm talking about, go off and read the entire blog on Armadillo's site and then come on back and gaze in awe as history is, hopefully, made :-)

Actually, the resemblance is uncanny:
That's them in the air going for the second leg! Dang, that's a mighty overcast sky....

Aaand, it looks at the moment like they did it!
Only took them like five years :-) GREAT JOB, CARMACK AND CREW! Enjoy the massive quantities of champagne $1 mill will buy!Originally Posted by The Tweets
Well, they actually won't know whether or not they won until October. Each of the competing teams gets a chance to fly, and if multiple teams complete the course, then they'll choose the winner based on time/accuracy. That said, Armadillo Aero is the only team that has completed the first challenge (and now the second) so far, so they clearly have a leg up on the competition.
Um, yeah, just a little bit. Also, they said something like they had 30 minutes left and were 1 foot off on their return leg. I will be genuinely shocked (not Casablanca shocked, but, like, fucking gobsmacked) if Masten or Unreasonable get even one leg done, let alone two near-perfect legs. --Not that I want Masten or Unreasonable to fail, but shit, they don't have even 5% of Armadillo's actual in-the-air flight time, to my knowledge!
What I want to know now is when Armadillo is going to start doing boosted hops. THAT I would travel to see.
