Whatever happened to Take me out to the Ballgame?

I've been thinking about this for a while.
What is up with 'God Bless America' during the seventh inning strech?
This is one of those sayings/songs that irrtates me. Why? Well, if god is on our side we can do no wrong. It ligitimizes all of the governments actions in 3 simple words.
Why not America the Beautiful? No political message there, unless it goes against the Administration's enviromental policies....
Last night I got to experience it in person. i couldn't believe that people were taking thier hats off, crossing thier hearts and standing like it was the National anthem.
Well, these days, with this president maybe it is.

They stopped the God Bless America at Orioles games this year. Now it's just Take Me Out to the Ballgame.

But even God Bless America was more fun to sing than "OK Blue Jays", which Toronto sings in the stretch.

Yeah. I think they really should switch to Add It Up. That would be fun for a seventh inning stretch.

    You've got a diamond
    You've got nine men
    You've got a hat and a bat
    And that's not all
    You've got the bleachers
Got 'em from spring 'til fall
You got a dog and a drink
    And the umpire's call
    Waddaya want?
    Let's play ball!

    Okay (okay)
    Blue Jays (Blue Jays)
    Let's (Let's) Play (Play) Ball!

I think Ozzie Osbourne's performance of Take Me Out to the Ball Game at Wrigley Field should have retired the song permanently.

There are worse Jays-related musical atrocities than that. Surely you guys remember that "Along Came Joe" song from the early 90s. It featured the immortal lyric: "Along came Joe, Robbie, and Devo/Movin' to T.O./Hope it doesn't snow."

Christ. I forgot all about that TV ad that tried to push that crap. Wasn't there an entire CD of crummy Jays songs?

I do miss "Super Bowl Shuffle".

Yeah, those Toronto songs were pretty crappy, but I'll take any of those over 'God Bless America', which MLB dictated HAD to be sung at every home-opener (including Toronto's). Had I been at that game, I most certainly would have booed and otherwise shown disrespect during the 7th inning stretch.

Yup. I had a roommate in university who actually bought it or got it in some giveaway and kept it.

Leave that song alone. My mother is a casual baseball fan (I use that term loosely) and she knows the lines to that.

I'm a hardcore sports fan and I can't say I know it as well as she does. If it perks her interest in the game, I'm all for it.
