    CGW World of Warcraft Hands-On

I just got finished reading this in the October issue and I must say I'm impressed. This could be the online game I've been waiting for. (Of course, there's the annoying teenage brat factor that seemingly can't be controlled.)

    Some highlights:

Lots of quests right from the get-go.

Eight races total: Humans, Night Elves, Dwarves, Gnomes, Orcs, Taurens, Undead (Zombies!) and Trolls.

Plays much like a single player RPG - which is on purpose. You can solo effectively.

Nine classes in all: Rogue, Priest, Paladin, Warrior, Hero, Druid, Warlock, Hunter, Shaman and Mage.

The best rewards and XP are found in 100 micro and 20 giant dungeons where you'll need a group to be effective. Fair enough.

Beta coming soon. Hmmm, can I get in on this?

Sounds good, especially the soloing part. I can't play long enough or often enough to form in-game comrades, so soloing is my only real option.

Yeah, well I've got the May 2004 issue right here, and it got a pretty so-so review. Apparently had a rough launch, server problems, and there's some serious unbalancing issues.

Dude, it's not even September yet and magazines have the October issues on shelves already? The least they could do with their time machine is put the damn lottery numbers in there.

Subscribe to some mags and they will send you issues before the unwashed masses get them!

Yeah, WoW and Mythica are pretty much the only MMOs that even raised an eyebrow for me at E3. Well, those and PlanetSide, but PlanetSide's just too damn expensive.

In the world of print magazines -- not just gaming mags, but all print mags -- the date on the magazine refers to when its supposed to be pulled off the newstand. Think of it as an expiration date...

You're telling me I can play a zombie?

If that is so I will give it a whirl just for the humor value... talking like zombie will be a gas.

Expensive in what way, actual money or system requirements? The game costs as much as any other MMOG, and I'm sure WOW and Mythica will be about the same, if not following SWG's $15 max model.

Has there ever been a Straight answer on PvP in the game? The reports I've seen are conflicting....

Expensive as in cost:perceived value, I suspect. Planetside had the most expensive monthly fee for the short period between its release and SWG's release. I'd go into more detail why I think the price is too high, but my argument can be found in any of a number of PS threads here.

The PvP sidebar is pretty much a direct quote from a designer when asked "What's the deal with PvP at the moment?" So, at least that paragraph is describing PvP plans at press time.
