Because Splinter Cell dominated AC2? That's to be expected, I think. Splinter Cell is coming back from a hiatus with a remarkably different and innovative system. AC2 looks great but not too different.

Most of us didn't go to E3 though. Or do you mean just based on the videos and such we've seen from the E3 coverage?

That works with a disclaimer that says it's based on videos, impressions, etc

Instead of "what's best" it could be "what I'm most hyped about"

I'd heard that among people who saw it, that APB was getting a huge buzz as being incredibly impressive from a design standpoint. It didn't even get a mention here.

The strategy category has four games instead of five like the rest of the categories. And Paradox showed two games more interesting than RUSE.

A girl I know told me that some creepy dude kept hitting on her at the MySims Agents booth so she ran away. :(

I love the arbitrary platform distinctions. Two of the "Best Console Games" will be on PC and three of the "Best PC Games" will be on consoles.

    lolwut

They have some interesting ideas, for sure, and the customization stuff and avatar designer are awesome, but "incredibly impressive from a design standpoint?" I'm not seeing that.

Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story was really one of the 5 best RPGs shown at E3?

It's not arbitrary, it is based on what platform was shown (or played) at E3.

Not a ton of surprises there in general. Lots of love for Scribblenauts, which is a nice shoutout to indie artsy stuff. Also, League of Legends doesn't get the love it deserves.

Assassin's Creed 2 definitely got robbed. After watching the CG & gameplay vids that game is my most anticipated game of the year by far.

As for it being "great but not much different" I want to know how Mass Effect 2 got a nomination. I hear it's basically the same story as AC2: More of what you liked, less of what you didn't.

Mass Effect 2 showed direct improvements. For the most part, we only talked about the improvements in AC2. All we really showed that was new was a couple of new assassinations and a flying machine. But we talked up a storm about all the new features, but we didn't really let judges play them. I didn't get to play ME2, but what they showed for improved combat was enough to sell me the sequel despite being infuriated with the gameplay of the first one.

The one thing that I hated most about Mass Effect 1 was the horrid inventory system and from what I was told they didn't show that for ME2 yet.

AC2 probably wasn't eligible - have to have playable code for the judges.

Splinter Ceel is in best of show but nor best console or PC how is this possible? Different people vote on console and best of show? the pc press doesn't vote on console but does vote on best of show?

Anyway the list is not surprising these are the titles everyone talked about, some of the omissions probably lost the nomination by few votes, Assassin Creed 2 for example given the positive press probably was one of those.

Also I think that a title should only be considered if it was playable on the show floor by everyone, these special presentations don't make no sense.

I can think of a lot of ways to criticize ME1 but infuriating wasn't one of them. I must look at consolized RPGs differently I guess.

This is very hard to interpret Thierry. Are you telling me not to hate, or is that a 'no' at the end as in 'no, it wasn't one of the top 5 rpgs in my opinion'?

If the former, then I was expecting something more along the lines of "here's a link to a detailed preview of this game which explains why it looked so good at E3".

The double throat/face stab was improvement enough for me. <3

I don't get the hype over Brutal Legend. It might be a pretty good game but is it really worthy of all the attention it's getting?

It looked like any other generic and unpolished third person action game to me. Jack Black and a funny story might sell a bad game for some people though, I suppose.

They also left out Splinter Cell: Conviction from that category.

Those racing games sound lame. Did any of the hardcore dev houses show up?
