I must say, I loved this game despite its shortcomings. Overall there were no hugetastic issues, but as far as weapons are concerned I never saw much reason to put away the Arc Wielder. It was just so useful in combat, invasions, retreats, everything. Also, if I had to blow something up, as far as efficiency is concerned Remote Charges seemed to be the way to go; that or the sledgehammer of awesomeness. The other thing is the base/safehouse seemed pretty lackluster. Everything seemed very taciturn other than the casual "I can feel victory coming!" or "I'll kill every grunt I have to if it means earning a living wage!". I think the game would've benefited from a more lively, interactive experience when at a safehouse. I.e. guerrillas return from a raid and are followed and it turns into a guerrilla action on the spot, gotta' save the safe house, etc.

But in all honesty, 90% of the time I was too distracted by how much fun I was having to notice these things or complain, they didn't take away too much from the experience.

Eurogamer reviews Demons of the Badlands. Pretty positive review. Yay! That's a nice change for Volition DLC.

Is this out yet or what? There was a banner ad for it visible for something like five minutes before the XBL update, but it didn't go to an actual download page, and there was no expansion download option on the RF:G games marketplace entry.

I finished Red Faction: Guerrilla a few days ago and man, what a blast this game is. I played on Hard and completed all the Pro times on the demolition challenges and timed vehicle deliveries. One thing I didn't really focus on was the convoy and courier missions. I did them occasionally but there are plenty I skipped. Is there a finite number of those missions within each region or do they just keep spawning again and again? I'll go back and finish them up if they're actually finishable.

I was surprised not to get an achievement for getting pro times on all the vehicle deliveries. Is there really no achievement for that or is it folded into some other completion challenge? Or maybe I missed one somewhere? I did get an achievement for getting all the pro times on the demolition challenges so I was sort of expecting one for the timed races.

Concerning the weapons: the one weapon that NEVER left my inventory once I got it (besides the uberhammers, duh) was that arcwelder, just like Emessai said. Buffed up, it was the perfect panic button weapons (especially since it cleaned out vehicles) and the weapon of choice for base defense missions. After that, it was the nanogun and then the enforcer (heatseeker == good for those not good with precision thumbstick aiming). Rocket launcher and demo packs only used in early game and pretty much put away when thermobaric bombs became available. Never even bought the prox mines.

There's 104 total guerilla actions so there IS a finite number, but they will keep respawning (apparently) based on where you are at a given moment. You can tell whether it's new or not by the color of the icon - the darker green is one you've done, the light green a new one.

I'm at 100/104. I think I'll just have to drive around a lot to find the last 4 (stupid achievements) ... at least I'll probably get Working the Land as a side effect.

Ah, right. So when I receive an incoming courier or convoy mission, I'll get a new icon on the map so I can check to see if it's bright green or not. Thanks.

I just found the statistics screen also. That's got all the info I was looking for on achievements including progress percentages on each one. Very handy! I've only completed 89/104 guerrilla actions and 16/18 pro times on the transporter missions so there's plenty of work left to do before the DLC comes out.

    GOTY? Mayhap.

    FTFY.

The times I did bother with convoy missions (I am by no means a sandbox completionist), I just Lurk Moared along the route with a full load of Thermobarics and the nanorifle. I didn't want to have to play cutesy with the civilian traffic timing and the proxes.

There's an upgrade to make the prox mines only go off when enemies go over them. There's not timing of traffic, you just load up the road, go sit in a corner, and wait and maybe break out the rockets/nano if anything somehow survived.

Yep. It sure as heck isn't another quick n' dirty mission pack like Volition did for Saints Row 2!

Yeah, my standard loadout was nano, arc welder and rockets/thermobaric, and when I got a convoy I didn't bother going back for different equipment. I can see where proximity mines would be suited to convoys, but usually I would get the notice while I was on my way to something else, and they aren't real good for busting into a house arrest or taking down a building.

I picked it up. All new area, maybe the size of Parker or a little bigger. Bunch of new guns and vehicles. 4 story missions I think and a bunch of marauder actions. No salvage, you just unlock stuff as you finish missions. Seems like it's worth the cost.

Whoa yeah... don't be put off by the fact that there are only 4 missions... there is a ton of stuff to do in this.

Just completed the first mission, took me about 45 mins on normal (died once).

THIS is how to make DLC! $10 for a whole new area, missions, sidemissions, unlocks... I bet there's at least 6-8 hours of content in here if you do everything.

It's a self-contained mini-campaign as well... not tied into your main game.

More Red Faction! I'd gladly pay for more of these.

This thread reminds me I should finish the main game, despite my frustration at being stuck at 97% morale after I finish each sector. :)

Also, whatever MP problems they were having at launch seemed to have been fixed now, I had a couple of great MP sessions with randoms the other day. Other QT3ers still playing MP?

Woo hoo! Got my WARP SPEED achievement for beating all the pro times on the transporter missions. I had to retry a bunch of those races over and over again trying to find the best shortcuts so I definitely earned those 15 gamer points.

Returning to the game for the DLC -- and it's still fresh and fun. What a great game, and really great DLC. I really liked this faction and it's awesome to spend more time with them.

*WARNING* DO NOT play the DLC before completing the main game if you don't want a spoiler!

I'm posting this as someone generally uninformed of the ways of DLC, but too big a RF:G fan to have passed up Demons of the Badlands.

I just finished the last Guerilla mission (and the campaign missions), and felt it was fun and interesting, but not enough to make me spew good cheer. It's very much more of the same, and not a whole lot more of the same (four missions fly by quickly) - that said, though brief, the missions and actions included are obviously hand tweaked moreso than most of the original game's, and all were excellent.

I'd give a warm recommendation for anyone who finished the main campaign and wants more. I imagine anyone who fits that criteria will like this, as it is a small chunk more of the best quality gameplay the original had to offer, with some limited new weapons/vehicles/structures, and new eye candy.

So the PC release date has been moved back to mid-September, according to both Steam and Impulse. It was supposed to come out TOMORROW.

Dude, you need to call Gamestop more often. The release date has been 9/15 for a while now.

I just picked up Red Faction for my PS3. It's a fun game even with the appalling PS3 controller. Seems like it is very forgiving. I am in the first region and have died quite a bit yet the game seems to resurrect my character back at the safehouse. Are there no penalties for dying?

You take a moral hit in the region. People get bummed out when heroes die.

There's a small morale penalty, which reduces the likelihood of civilians joining into your firefights, and makes reinforcements come less frequently. Losing too much morale can make it hard to get one of the achievements (100% morale in 3 zones), but it isn't something you really need to worry about when playing.

This is getting an 8-map Multiplayer Map Pack on Sep. 17th for 560 points.

I wonder if any of the extra DLC will be included in the PC version.

You can always build back morale by killing sprees (although since you'll get unwanted help while doing so you could potentially lose just as much as you gain).

The reason there's very little death penalty is because this game is basically pure fun. This game took out everything that wasn't fun and used the space they saved on the disc to add in more fun.

That's fine by me. I love Red Faction. It is a lot of fun just walking around finding new and interesting ways to topple buildings. :)
