Is NMA as mad about this as they were FO3? Or is Obsidian developing letting them be cautiously optimistic?

By the time Fallout 3 was released, NMA had largely calmed down about the game from what I could tell. There was a hard-core opposition, of course, but they seemed a minority even on that site. And a quick glance around NMA right now doesn't seem to indicate much active anger.
They still have some weirdos, though.

These are from one of the G4 videos they did. Oh, and Good Natured is apparently +5/-5 to the listed skills.
Thanks!
Also, here's a new interview with the lead designer that talks about what changes they've made to gameplay and those they didn't without being spoilerish.
Traits are here
I am very much liking both the new perks and the new traits and the move to making characters more specialized.
Looks like they aren't making the same mistake bethesda did. Bethesda added a lot more useless fluff perks than f2 had, especially the high level ones and the end result was not only bethesda trying too hard and ruining the campy humor, but also not a lot of high level interesting options.
Will be interesting to see if there are decent revolvers in new vegas. Obviously if they are making a perk designed around using them a lot there must be, but i don't recall any seriously good revolves in any of the previous games.
It annoys me that The Professional doesn't support melee weapons/unarmed.
Oooh. Which guy wouldn't pick the wild wasteland trait? Maybe I'll leave it out to save it for a second playthrough.
Between that and hardcore mode, I'm officially interested in this game. I was pretty disappointed by the shooting in F3, and if it weren't for VATS I would of stopped playing early on. I love Stalker, so hardcore mode sounds great too. Most notably, the shooting mechanics have been refined. We now have an optional "true ironsights" feature that allows the player to aim down the actual sights instead of using the targeting reticule. The input for firing has been smoothed out as well, so players should find that firing feels more responsive.
They added three traits for me!
Long Haul
Required Character Level: 12
Required Attributes/Skills: Endurance 6, Barter 70
You have learned how to pack mountains of gear for the long haul. Being over-encumbered no longer prevents you from using fast travel.Math Wrath
Required Character Level: 10
Required Attributes/Skills: Science 70
You are able to optimize your Pip-Boy's VATS logic, reducing all AP costs by 10 percent.Pack Rat
Required Character Level: 8
Required Attributes/Skills: Intelligence 5, Barter 70
You have learned the value of careful packing. Items with a weight of two or less weigh half as much for you.
That last trait would make more sense if they used an inventory grid and the trait expanded the grid or gave your character an auto sort button, rather than lower the weight. They are conflating abstractions.
I would never play a game that conflated abstractions.
Well, it really is just the description, rather than the effect. It really isn't a criticism of the game, but of the idea that carefully packing things could make their total volume weigh significantly less just seemed odd to me. If you're carefully packing, you're either decreasing the volume, or protecting the items with padding which actually weighs more.
I guess any description would run into a similar problem, even something like, "Carrying around many small items is less awkward for you, reducing items with a weight 2 or less by half." That would seem to have more to do with agility instead of weight. For whatever reason, the contrast of the description to the effect just jumped out at me there.
Have you ever carried a heavy load? Weight distribution is everything!
The trait isn't supposed to do what you want it to do. The trait's effect on your overall carry capacity will be minimal, but it will have a huge impact on the amounts of ammo, tools & basic necessities you can carry around with you. It's probably very handy indeed if you're the kind of player who dislikes teleporting and likes survival gameplay.
Err...?They are conflating abstractions.
EDIT: Oh, makes sense now :D
My take is that Pack Rat wold be very useful for the hardcore mode where Ammo has weight and you need to carry food and water, on the other hand I am almost certain to get the Long haul trait, because I often found myself making 2 and sometimes 3 trips to haul loot from a location.
These new traits look great. Especially the ones about inventory management. I always end up choosing higher strength in SPECIAL than I would like because I hate getting so easily encumbered.
And Wild Wasteland has second playthrough written all over it.

Those are perks, not traits. Traits are selected at character creation and come with penalties.
The should make the wild wasteland trait a free one that does not use one of your two picks. I was considering the Kamikaze +10 AP and the improved accuracy one to go with it, however I definitely want that wild wasteland trait. I wonder how harsh the -2 damage resistance penalty is for that Kamikaze trait.
I am really conflicted on which version to get. My old XPS M1710 notebook ran Fallout 3 just fine, so I assume my new Alienware M11x should run this new one just fine. And I really loved the mods. They removed any annoyances I had with the game system and added some features that really enhanced the game for me.
OTOH, these days I am doing almost all of my gaming on my XBox 360 and my 54" Panny plasma, and I would guess Fallout:New Vegas would be a pretty awesome experience on that system.
Argh!
(not mine. from gamefaqs)
Put a spoiler buffer on that shit, you motherfucker! Even better, just link it. Fuck though, you are a shitbag.
Does that map come with all physical editions of the game?
It is from http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/95955...vegas/56741469
It does have more misc. details of the game.
Rock8man, it's from the official strategy guide.
So are thrown weapons going to be good in this? There's a whole trait for them, after all.
