I'm pulling for Montreal this year. Although I'm still stunned that my favorite team, the Avs, have fallen to dead last in their division. Really? Less than a decade ago they were one of the top teams in the league.
Go 'nucks!
I'm pulling for Montreal this year. Although I'm still stunned that my favorite team, the Avs, have fallen to dead last in their division. Really? Less than a decade ago they were one of the top teams in the league.
Less than a decade ago Peter Forsberg was still healthy and Rob Blake wasn't in San Jose. And Patrick Roy hadn't retired.
I'm cheering for the Bruins this time around. They were my favorite team growing up -- I was a Cam Neely fan -- and it's great to see them doing well again. It's particularly nice to see Tim Thomas finally get some recognition/playing time. I fondly remember Timmy from his UVM days, and still share a hair-cutter person with his sister-in-law.
In years past I've cheered for the Sens, but that's mostly because I've really liked their lineup. But now that most of the players I liked (Hossa, Chara, Havlat, etc) are gone, I'm not quite as interested. Daniel Alfredsson is still one of my favorite players, though. Of course, they're not even in the playoffs this year, so it's moot.
By proximity I should be a Habs fan, and if Les Glorieux do well, I won't begrudge them their victory.
I can still be sad about it.
Yeah, you should live here. It's like the team doesn't even exist anymore. Two years ago they just finnished selling out over 400 games in a row. Now you can pick up tickets for dirt cheap.
That being said, they're not my team.
Go Caps! I've got to believe that they have a fantastic shot this year.
Go Rangers!
They seem too erratic to make it through 4 series, but if Lundqvist is on his game, they could give the Capitals and Ovechkin some trouble, and then who knows what.
The NHL playoffs seem wide-open every year now, and I can only guess this year will come down to whether someone can beat whoever emerges out of the Sharks/Red Wings battle.
Go Flames!
As usual, I'm hoping my hometown team montreal can get somewhere this year, but for the last five years San Jose has been the team on my television and they're solid ass kickers. Yay hockey!!
Go Bruins!
I said in the playoff thread last year that this team would have some serious potential this season, but I didn't realise just how good they'd be. We wont make it all the way, but knocking out the Habs in the first round would make a great year so much sweeter. Should be a great series.

Go Pens!
They played like crap to start the year, got their coach fired--the guy who coached them to the Finals last year, in case you don't remember--and ever since, they've been on fire. Who knew?
And who do they face in the first round? The Flyers. Should be fun.

Preds blew it, so I'm pulling for Blue Jackets.
Hey, the Canucks are bound to win eventually. It's been 39 years so they're due!

They also had Ray Bourque, along with Adam Foote giving them three of the best defencemen in the league. However, what really happened to the Avs is bad management. They had a lot of young talent and they pissed it away, and didn't draft well for a number of years to replace it. Chris Drury was money in the playoffs, especially for game winning goals. Alex Tanguay is a solid top six forward. Martin Skoula is a top four defenseman. Robin Regher was traded away before ever playing a game.
This season they also had Foote, Sakic, Smyth, Stastny and Tjarnqvist injured. That doesn't help.
Actually, I was making an erroneous reference to their last two runs, but apparently they got swept in '82. Shows what I know, although in my defense I was seven and had no interest in hockey.
And it's getting ready to start, good luck everyone!
I moved to Denver about 2 months prior to the finals in 01. When the Avs won it the town exploded. One of the most fun party nights of my life.
Despite the Sedins, I'll be rooting for the Canucks this time around.
The Stars didn't make it so I'll be pulling for the local team (Ducks) or the Hawks this time around...I'm ok with anyone winning except Detroit or the Sharks though :D
Go Stars!!!
err, except that they aren't in this year. All this talk of the Avs of 10 years ago brought back the glorious memories of 2 game 7 victories by Dallas over them. Ah, the good old days.
Rangers win! 4-3 in a furious, spectacular game where the Capitals threw everything they had at Lundqvist as hard and as fast as possible.
God, I love playoff hockey.
The Flyers are just a shameful organization. Their coach and GM should've been disciplined early in the season, but taking three penalties in the last 20 seconds of a game, two of which are obvious intent to injure, shows they haven't learned a thing. The league needs to suspend at least the guy who did the hit from behind, because the Flyers can fuck up the Penguins' chances at a cup even if they have no chance of actually winning the series.
El oh el.
The Flyers play a different brand of hockey. One that the rest of the league used to play, too. Look up Ed Van Impe...
Hockey is played differently in Philadelphia than it is in Pittsburgh. I'm sorry, but this league is not like the NFL where they do everything they can to make sure no one can touch the QB because he's a "star". It's a man's game. For now you can point to the scoreboard. Do that instead of whining.
So, your argument in favour of cheap shotting a guy from behind in the last seconds of a loss is "We're from Philadelphia"?
You may notice I'm from Canada. I know a thing or two about real hockey, and there's a massive difference between playing hard and playing dirty. The Flyers are dirty, and it's nothing to be proud of.
Whining is what fans do, I don't give a crap about that series. It's just what's on before the Canuck game. But when a team embarrasses themselves like the Flyers did, I'm going to comment on it.
