Dear TomChick, those ads on top of the forum...

There's an ad displaying on the forum right now that plays some jungle-sounds when it loads (some cricket and a monkey, I guess) that is annoying the hell out of me. Do you have some option to turn that off, or is that out of your hands? My one-year old was just woken up by that ad, because I didn't think of anything bad and had the speakers on a quite loud setting from watching a movie this afternoon, and opened qt3, and *chirpchirpuhuh" awake was the baby :( Now he won't sleep :(

You probably can't do anything about it, but I thought I might ask.

    Thanks anyway!

    Dear Tom Chick.
There is some heavy rain falling right now outside my window and it is making a hell of a lot of noise. Coincidentally, I am browsing your forums at the same time. Suddenly a flash of lightning streaked across the sky. Several seconds later, a thunderous boom awoke my two sleeping shell-less turtles. Somewhere off in the distance, a ping pong ball dropped. Do you have some option to turn this stuff off, or is that out of your hands?

    +1 post count!

Yes, turn your speakers off Copernicus. What do you want him to do, reach through the screen and push buttons for you?

I am just being silly. No disrespect implied. Actually I quite sympathize with the enormous frustration that comes with finally getting a one year old to fall asleep and then having some random encounter wake them up and then nothing you try can get them to go back asleep.

    Dear Mr. Chick.
The ads are now localized and apparently Achmed the Dead Terrorist has just reached our shores and apparently you can buy a ringtone.

It's click fraud unless you also sign up. But hey, you might meet someone nice.

Those are the worst. Drolths are subterranean but someone rolls a 00 on the table and BAM! there's one in my living room and the kid's awake.

At least you're apt to get 1d4 common MIs or 1 medium MI out of it.

I just saw the first internet ad paid for by a person I actually know today. It was on the forum for Madison's local weekly paper. I clicked on the link and then didn't buy anything.

    Mauauaahahahahahahahahahhaha!

Oh, but on here I usually buy the things I see.

I'm curious, what did you do with the acid-resistant valves from the Team Fortress thread?

In all seriousness, I think ads and auto-loading videos that make noise or play music as soon as you load a page are of the Devil.

Oh, absolutely. I hate hate hate ads or webpages that make sound. I know some people think think that stuff's cool, but they're obviously idiots.

I hate those people that think think! Never trust doublethinkers!

    Audio banner ads suck, too.

    Dear TomChick,

I would love to find the dealer in my area with the lowest price on buying or leasing a new Toyota. Please send me the details immediately.

The first time one of the auto-load loud video ad things got me, I nearly fell out of my chair laughing. It happened in the computer nook in the basement, my wife was hanging out with me watching dumb videos on youtube, I had the volume cranked because the last video had low volume. Some ad loaded that was something to do with cars, and this horribly loud engine revving sound blasted through the speakers, it was glorious. The wife literally screamed and sunk down in her seat, causing uncontrolable laughing on my behalf. I got punched in the arm, but it was worth it. :)

Well for instance, I'm the proud owner of John McCain. I waited until after the election when the price was low. Just wait until he introduces the bill I wrote for him, entitled, "Senate Bill 3329-69, Project GOSALSA*."

You live such a cold and sterile existence behind your iron fortress, sheltered from the horrible assaults on the senses that the rest of us poor slobs here on the outside must weather and endure, day after day!

I don't understand all of this Honda talk, all I'm getting is an ad for Toyota buying or leasing. Mr. TomChick, why can't I see the Honda ads?
