That movie is a bucket of shit.

So madkevin won the (belated) draw for this week!

I'm looking forward to seeing what he picks as one of the most regular participants in the club.

PM sent and second post in the thread updated.

    Kareem,

Would it be a good idea to add a list of what has been picked prior? I'm thinking some people might want to go back and watch these prior recommendations and read the ensuing discussion. Just for people who didn't have time to fit a flick in for the discussion at the time or can't remember why Swing Kids is in thier Netflix queue.

For your cutting and pasting pleasure.

    1. Sorceror (1977)
    2. A Midnight Clear (1992)
    3. After Life (1998)
    4. The Quiet Man (1952)
    5. Amistad (1997)
    6. Swing Kids (1993)
    7. Wonder Boys (2000)
    8. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969)
    9. The Three Musketeers (1973)
    10. Becket (1964)
    11. Night of the Hunter (1955)

Or I could just keep track here. Whatever works best for the common good of the hivemind.

Jebus, what a bunch of old farts. No Harry Potter 3? No Bucket List? Where are the Scary Movies? I don't see the work of Sylvester Stallone anywhere on this list!

    Outrageous. Unacceptable.

I'm actually having trouble lately getting the movies in time. My wife and myself like to watch serials (Carnivale is the current one). As a result we are just flipping a couple DVDs a week on Netflix.

    Tryin' to keep up.

I am so far behind right now. I still haven't seen Becket. But I plan on it. I might have to have a bit of a movie marathon to catch up.

I think that if people are getting picked twice, it should be up to them to decide if they want to defer their pick to someone else. Just to be fair, in the rules that doesn't seem like an option really.

Not forcing them to give up their pick, just an option to give it to someone else.

Yes, I suck. I got so completely addicted to the new WoW expansion while on vacation the last 10 days that I completely forgot about updating the Movie Club.

    snowcrash22:

Thanks for the list. I'll post it at the start of the thread and update it every week, and I'll add hyperlinks for easy access to the threads.

    Jon_Danger:

The idea was to encourage folks who picked a movie recently to keep participating since they could theoretically pick the movie we watch more than once in a row. I'll edit the rules to include that option though.

I'll do the draw in a minute for the person who will pick a movie by Monday.

The winner, who was drawn from the list of participants for Becket, is Joe O'Malley.

I just thought it should be said that there would be a way to defer and have it re-picked if you felt you picked already (or didn't have a good movie in mind). That way it is solid in the rules as an option.

And the first movie club pick of the new year will be by none other than the host of the Unofficial Official Qt3 GotY awards, Mr. Andrew Mayer.

Opening post updated, and PM sent out.

Why, the lucky next dude is in fact Mr. Ben Sones. Which is in fact lucky considering this is, I believe, the first time he's been in the draw.

PM to be sent out in a sec.

i hereby dub this movie club "sparkle motion."

i also wish to say i sometimes doubt ben sones' commitment to sparkle motion. :P

unless we're off the two week system?

I think, for the health of said sparkle, we should maybe institute either an "opt in" drawing or a 24 hour rule*. Unless Ben is shown to be working on a movie introduction so good that it will finally get this backwater of category on the map.

*as in you have 24 hours to get your thread posted or another name is drawn.

No, I asked Ben to post his pick on Monday the 26th. I've just gotten to giving more time leeway if a film doesn't garner enough discussion after it's announced, with the hope that people haven't yet gotten the chance to watch the movie that was picked, before distracting them with another movie pick.

I'll stick to the two week system once more after Ben announces his pick.

Heh, there was no memo, it was a stealth change. My bad for not communicating it, and we'll go back to the normal system after the new week's announcement.
