"If you are going to defy them, do it right.."

[spray paints a large "V" on Visitor propaganda poster]
    " ... For Victory. "

So they are bringing V back. I LOVED this show, but with time I decided that
Marc Singer, (Nsfw?) to me, was actually the only one in it who really looked like a lizard.

Can read about it here and here
    Even more here.

From the last link "Kenneth Johnson's name might not be as household as Gene Roddenberry's, but he created The Bionic Woman, V, and the Alien Nation television series." Dunno if that is good or bad.

As usual, apologies and ignore if posted before, I did search for it with no luck or just plain weak search-fu.

I really liked V in principle. It wasn't very well acted or written (dialog wise) overall, but the premise was cool, I thought. I'm talking about the mini-series, not the extended series, which was pretty much crap, IIRC.

I'm pretty sure Marc Singer had prosthetic legs on that show, because they were always in the same position.

I like V but some of that is nostalgia. I still think the original miniseries works reasonably well as sort of a live action version of a sci fi anime epic. I love Marc Singer -- he's the definition of B '80s man-of-action. And the Visitor uniforms are nifty.

The spray painting scene is a classic.

AND THUS, the thread name is validated. Suck on THAT, Mr. TYjenks! ;)

I donīt think "man nipples", nor any other kind of nipples are something to get all frisky about but, since I canīt really tell how a pic of Mr. Singer in the seminude could affect some poor Qt3 posterīs job status, I figured it was best to err on the safe side.

As for V... I am trying to get ahold of the original miniseries and watch it again. Wasnīt Singer a reporter on those? I remember loving that show and then feeling greatly dissapointed by the miniseries, Robert Englund notwhitstanding.

I am, however, afraid that watching it again might be an excercise in dissapointment, it has happened to me recently while tryint to recapture de nostalgia of BUCK ROGERS and BATTLESTAR GALACTICA. Man those donīt hold up good at all.

Also, when I find the article I read the other day about a remake on the works for REDDAWN, I will NOT name it "WOlveriiiiines!"

So rat eating lizards here disguised as humans to steal our water.
    Classic?
Rose tinted glasses and all that. We were suckers for anything remotely sci-fi but V actually wasn't very good.

I didn't say V was classic, I said that scene was. It's a good example of a rousing "us versus them" moment that effectively plays off historical memory. There's nothing in the way it's written that wouldn't work perfectly well in a gigantic Bruckheimer/Spielberg/whoever movie today, or anything else similarly modern; and acting-wise, the only real character is the old guy, who turns in a good performance.

I rewatched V a couple years ago, with I daresay a bit of objectivity (it's not something I ever really loved a la Star Wars/Trek) and noted its virtues where they still existed, as well as its flaws. It works as camp and occasionally as something more.

Incidentally, as a child who was a sucker for anything remotely sci-fi, I still knew enough at the time to think Space Hunter: Adventures In The Forbidden Zone was godawful (Molly Ringwald excepted), and to understand that The Last Starfighter (while it had its merits) wasn't a patch on Star Wars. I also was fairly disappointed in Star Trek 3...

Sci-fi V was great. Pound you in the head with the WWII rise of Nazis analogy V was kind of preachy and silly.

Dump Marc Singer, but for all that is holy, keep Robert Englund!

Well now that I know what is IN the thread it makes sense, but it was too long ago for me to identify it right away. I would like to think we were both right. Excellently titled for those of us with flawless recall and horribly titled for the aged among us who find our memories slipping.

I didn't mean to pick on you specifically, and I agree with what you just said. Allthough I was greatly dissapointed with The Last Starfighter and every Star Trek movie (apart from The Voyage Home, that was goofy fun).
But then I liked Alien Nation, so who am I to judge.

But even at the time, I felt V was boring and preachy and I think we got the long series. Too long.

Don't. It's mind numbingly bad. Just preserve your fond memories and forget about ever going back. I say this as a kid who loved the show when it first came on.

A bit of follow up with the creator of the series throwing a fit
