A lot of the Qt3 crowd were on Nimrodel but I doubt more than a handful are still actively playing. DaveV told me in-game that he saw an actual Qt3 guildie run by the other day, but he/she may be a 1-toon guild at this point.
I just downloaded the two-week trial and wondering if anyone is still playing this. What server should I start on, suggestions, etc.

I've been playing a lot recently, and I'm in the Qt3 guild, but I think there are only a couple of us. It is on Nimrodel, but at this point you might be better off starting on a higher population server.
Man, I'd love to get back into LOTRO. I do need to level up to 50 before the Mines of Moria expansion, and if I don't do it sometime in August, it's likely not going to happen. So, look for me to be on the Nimrodel server sometime soon (character names Delia, Tomwise, and Curie).

I did try it (got the beta discount for a $10 download), but my partner in crime took about two weeks to get bored of it and declared she was done playing. At which point, so was I. Because I don't really need to do the MMO thing on my own anymore. Kind of a pity, since it's a good game. But I feel like I got $10 worth of fun, easy, so I'm not going to cry about it.
Especially since we moved on to Baldur's Gate, which is treating us better overall.
I've recently started playing again on a part-time basis. I have several characters on Nimrodel; you're mostly likely to find me on Ilindra or Chasleigh. Neither of them is guilded at the moment, so I'll keep my eyes peeled for a possible Qt3 hookup. :)
I have a couple of lowbies on Nimrodel -- a 12ish minstrel named Qwyvvin I think, and a hobbit burglar whose name escapes me. I have neglected them but still want to work through some of the content.
I'm on almost every night (your early morning, probably). My loremaster Finley is still in the QT3 guild and I'm running him through Evendim/Esteldin at the moment. (Yeah Tom, he got sick of Tomwise's extended absence and moved on). My level 50 hunter (Wilbur) and captain (Mummy) still get a work through occasionally when I feel like grinding deeds.
As far as suggestions go, I'd recommend rolling a captain if you're intending to solo and a minstrel if you want to group. Captains (humans only) are jacks-of-all-trades and minstrels are wanted by every group. The Shire is the best starting area in terms of variety of quests and 'sense of place'.
I loved playing LOTRO, but I've fallen out of it for now. I just don't seem to be able to stick with any MMO for very long as I get easily distracted by all the other gaming options I have staring me in the face at home.
Well, you're in good company, Mark. I have five characters on Nimrodel, and my highest one, the Lore-master, is only 20. The rest are between 8 and 14. What's your character's name?
I recently rerolled my Champion as a Captain and like that better, but I think I like the LM best in terms of flexibility and complexity. I found the Champion to be dreadfully boring to play.
Tom, when are you gonna be back on? I've had your characters in my friends list since The Old Times, but none of them has logged in recently, as of last night.
On a completely frivolous and unrelated note: Ding! Post 1000!
I re-subbed for 3 months after getting the free month. I played two weeks into the 3-months for a total of 6 weeks and got my guy into the low twenties and was thoroughly bored. I cannot put my finger on what exxactly is different that fails in hooking me, but it simply did not grab me like WoW did.
If WoW was your "first" MMO, then that is why. Nothing will ever grab you like it ever again :-)
No way have I ever been addicted to playing anything like I was to Everquest. WoW probably came second though.
I have a lvl 35 Champion I'm dying to get back to as well. Might be time to fire that back up...
I had played UO before WoW and put a good amount of time into EQ2. Maybe it is some law of diminishing returns. That said, once BC was released, I went back to WoW and stayed a until I got to 70 with my main. During that period, I was just as addicted.
I care nothing about the LotRO lore. Maybe that is my problem (among many others unrelated to gaming).
Everquest was my first MMO and I don't expect anything to ever match that in terms of pure excitement and anticipation. Everything was new. To date, it's the only game I ever called out sick to play and it's the only game I thought about at work. I'd go home after work, spend some time with the wife and kids, and then fire up Everquest until 3 a.m. It was almost a relief to close that account 2 years later.
I've got a lvl 24 Champion, Man, on Nimrodel, name of Aardwulf. I'm on for about an hour, a couple times a week. Hope to get back into it a bit more, soon.
I have three level 18ish characters - Talorc (Champion), Nilwen (Hunter) & Mailcon (Guardian) all on Nimrodel.
I have not played for a while, but I am hoping to get back into the game. I am a chronic lowbie in every MMO I play, might be nice to actually hit the level cap for once :-)
I have a 50 Burglar, Hagard, plus a 35 LM named Horatios. I also have a number of other guys stuck in the early twenties. It isn't bad the first time, but it loses some of the charm the fifth or sixth time. Tolrin, a 25 Minstrel (who is also a Grandmaster scholar, so he's not going to get deleted) and Cark an early-20 Captain. If you see Hagard on, send me a tell and I can add you to the Qt3 guild. I think he's my only character who is an officer. The guild is fairly defunct so you are probably better off joining one that is active, of course.
I bought the Lifetime Sub when they re-offered it a couple months ago.
It took me a while, though, to actually get back to it. Now, I have a lvl 10 Champion (on the Gladden server, sorry, Qt3). This is the first time, though, that I have made it to lvl 10 without being defeated...go me!!
Chris
I just usurped the leadership of the Knights of Quarter to Three from Tomwise. Apparently the kinship disbands if the leader doesn't log on for 100 days, and it has been 70 so far. I did name Delia my successor. :) I can give the leadership back to you if you play again, Tom.
Do we want to try and pick a 'LOTRO day' where we can group up and play?
For me, every day is LotRO day. ;) My current source of amusement is trying to duo an epic group quest with a friend of mine. We almost made it on our first attempt.
So I've gotten upto level 12 with a human champion named Andranphon now and this game does look like a keeper. Random people are several times better than randoms in WoW, maturity is exceedingly high for a MMORPG, and I'm really liking the fact that I can solo most of the quests in need be.

I'm such a sucker for collector's editions. Sigh.
I wonder whether the in-game items will be worth the price of the Collector's Edition. I'm always jealous when my friends get their pony at level 25. That's a pretty good deal. The funky looking capes are OK, too, but there are too many and they are all the same.
They are apparently running some kind of live event today where a GM-controlled Big Bad Villain is showing up at various places and smacking people down.
After a fairly long hiatus l, I recently re-upped Lotro when they reintroduced the special pricing and started a new minstrel on Nimrodel (the only class I hadn't tried). I love the questing and lore in the game, and prefer the more realistic and 'serious' atmosphere in comparison to WoW. I'm a big fan of the the books and movies, so it helps.
I still get that sense of wonder playing Lotro, that I don't with any other mmo. WoW is a little too tongue in cheek and gamey for me while Conan lacks consistency is buggy and seems a little too forced and contrived.
The only thing that bugs me about Lotro is that the combat at times lacks that special 'ooomph' that both WoW and Conan have (probably a combination of animation and some generic attack types), although it looks like it may be a matter of finding the right class. The minstrel so far has been a lot of fun in combat, so I'll probably build that character with Moria in mind.
Moria looks very cool, and I will no doubt be picking up the CE, unless of course the included map is like the pamphlet sized paper atrocity that was released with the original CE.
The CE does sound interesting, but the fact that it includes the base LotRO makes me worry that it will cost way more than the the download version. (Aside from the CE markup.)
