So I saw the trailer and commercial hype for this before TDK. Even Brendan Fraser says "we're back" with all the enthusiasm of admitting you have AIDS.

I loved the first one; Indy inspired action romp with some impressive effects for the time. The story was tight, the cast amusing, never took itself too seriously but had some bite. The Mummy Returns was a miserable retread of the first BUT BIGGER, inundating the screen with unnecessary effects and clutter, a story so rambling and ridiculous that by the time scorpion Rock made his entrance I didn't bat an eye. Garbage.
I won't be seeing this one.
Well, there is Jet Li.
This one sounds, in concept, potentially (... and more qualifiers as needed ...) better than the second.
They got the names and history wrong. Just saying.
I wanna see it because it looks hilariously stupid, in a fun way.
I loved both Mummy movies, and I can't wait for this one!
When The Mummy 2 was on free OnDemand, I actually used it several times to get to sleep quickly.
Just an awful, awful movie.
No, I'm saying Thomas Jefferson is the father of America.
The early scripts and publicity actually named him correctly. Then they changed him to Qin Er Shi and finally to "The Han Emperor", apparently because the bigwigs at the Chinese Film Bureau didn't want the character identified as Qin Huang Shi (even though that's obviously who he's supposed to be).
So the Chinese were upset about their history being portrayed accurately (minus the whole, you know, mummy part)?
Replacing Rachel Weisz with Maria Bello is net loss.
I love how the narrative voiceover in the trailer desperately tries to pin this movie as the greatest epic ever put on silicon. I also love how at no point is there a single Mummy to be seen in the entire trailer...
What's your definition of mummy? If we think of it (in fantasy terms) as "dead person buried or entombed using special techniques and then brought back to life or pseudo life via magic", then the trailer would appear to feature several thousand mummies, most notably Jet Li. Mummification certainly wasn't a practice limited to Egypt. Surely you're not insisting on the rags, the first two movies dispensed with those pretty quickly.
Watching the trailer I saw an army of undead skeletons, creatures that look like giant sasquatches, a massive three-headed CG dragon, and other assorted things. If there is in fact a mummy-type character orchestrating the moppet show, the whole concept is lost amid it all.
I was looking forward to this and was hoping it would be able to recapture the charm of the original (which I loved.) It's now looking like it'll suck (currently 10% on RT) but I like some of the actors involved enough that I might still check it out.
I'm going on Saturday with a bunch of friends sporting low expectations for inanity and silliness. I doubt I'll be disappointed. :)

They're Yeti, dammit! Sasquatches are Neutral Good and wouldn't attack Brendan Fraser, Yeti are Chaotic Evil!
Way to chime in on a topic you know NOTHING about! I mean, KEE-RIST!

I can't wait. Yeah, it'll probably be stupid, but this is Brendan Frasier folks. Nobody is exactly looking for the Ordinary People here. I doubt this will be mentioned in many oscar conversations. But it does look like an excellent popcorn movie!
After The Mummy 2 and Van Helsing, I thought Stephen Sommers did a tremendous job making a case for being the worst director doing action movies today. By contrast, Rob Cohen can usually be counted on to get the job done. So I might see this.
I'll take any ten minutes of In The Name of the King over any ten minutes of Van Helsing any day.
More than ten minutes of either and I'll probably just cut my eyes out.
I can think of few things if any I have enjoyed starring Brendan Frasier. Wasn't Journey to the Center of the Earth just released?
Brenden Fraiser was good as a guest on Scrubs. That's about it.
School Ties, but I'm basing this off vague recollections of it being good from like 12 years ago or whenever I saw it.
Gods and Monsters. Duh.
The Quiet American?
