She just admitted via Twitter that she had too much Sparks (essentially an alcoholic energy drink) before recording. She also posted an apology on her blog. Regarding her being a slap for the PS3, that came through loud and clear from her Twitter updates during the Sony presser. Where Eurogamer and 1up's live blogs were sorta luke warm, Leigh was going nuts and declaring Sony teh winnar!11!. To each his/her own, of course, but she clearly loves Sony.
Yeah, that is absolutely hilarious. It's emblematic of the sort of things they do on the Bombcast. They effortlessly riff off of each other like that all the time.
I like the responses to her blog that are like 'no no it was the best bombcast ever you were great your points were incisive'. Translatotron says: 'I am your knight in shining armor pretty internet lady, let us now have all the sex'.
Yeah, the internet is full of those dudes. But I think it is pretty endearing that she realized and admitted how bad she was. To be fair, I haven't listened to it yet, so that's not a qualitative statement by me. I'm just assuming she's being honest about how bad she was.
Ehhhhh.....Alexander goes through the same routine every time she appears on any podcast. She's self-effacing that way. I'm sure she thinks she sucked, but I don't know that she knows that she sucked any differently from the way that she always thinks she sucks.
I also never really perceived a Sony bias from her beyond the fact that she's one of those Gamasutra-working Gaems teh art!! hippies and that's where the majority of the art games on consoles come out. I skim her writing more often than I read it, though.
I like the bombcast because it sounds like they are all having fun. This is probably one of the few podcasts I have actually laughed out loud while listening to. (Ricky Gervais Show was another one).
ugh, leigh blathers on and on too about the man-god kojima. i guess i should cut her some slack if it was the alcohol talking, but she is just soo annoying on this podcast.
i got the impression that the giantbomb guys wanted to just smack her opinions on metal gear solid down but held off to be polite.
Wow, she's really annoying. And lol @ the "nerd" comments.
Characters don't have a full personality unless they're sexual: confirmed.
Made it through the first hour, but then realized my ears physically hurt when she speaks.
If you stopped listening to the Bombcast before the 1:00:00 mark, you owe it to yourself to go back and listen starting at 1:05:00 and for the next few minutes.
I didn't mind her insane opinions about how MGS4 is the most brilliant game ever and the reason more people don't like it is because they don't want that much depth in their games or are too stupid to understand it. I did mind her becoming increasingly louder and faster and saying but but but but but but but anytime someone else tried to talk, even if they just wanted to agree with her.
Holding up MGS4 as a pillar of storytelling and depth doesn't bode well for one's credibility in my mind.
It's up there with GTA4 for grand, cinematic, Hollywood experiences.
So am I the only one that found Leigh to actually be extremely interesting to listen to?
I'll admit her Kojima fanboyism got annoying though. Saying that Kojima is the Miyazaki of the gaming world and the next best is a Tom Clancy is absurd. (Granted she was drunk. I wonder if she's said something similar when she was sober).
Still I found her to be one of the most insightful people I've heard on a podcast in a while.
Well, at least this chick has an actual opinion on gaming.
Of course, she's still apparently famous for being a chick.
The endurance run clearly has its highs and lows. The parts that involve the non-dungeon parts are good to hilariously awesome, while you can tell just how miserable they get during the grindy dungeon parts. They can be funny, but they definitely get to a point where they're just like 'soooo, how was Hawx, Jeff?' 'It's pretty good, Vinnie.' Still, the endurance run is every bit as quotable as Giant Bombcast. So quotable I may change my handle to Funky Student and change my location to 'I looooooove them balls!'
Leigh is another woman who I absolutely cannot stand listening to on any podcast. Too screechy.
Leigh Alexander was definitely trying really hard on that Bombcast. She seems like a very intelligent person with a little too much to prove, or that's how she came across to me anyway. Either way, Bombcast does by far the best job of covering E3 I think, even if this episode was a bit OTT. Also, a new Mobcast popped up in iTunes yay.
I haven't gotten far into the GB day 2 podcast yet but this exchange got me laughing:
Leigh: "I played Gamecube once just to play Resident Evil 4 early"
Capcom guy: "Thank you your check is in the mail."
Leigh: "But seriously the last good Resident Evil game was Code Veronica."
Capcom guy: "Your check just bounced."
Leigh: "Now it's Steroid-addled Racist Resident Evil."
Capcom guy: "Ok now you owe us money."
Jeff: "Resident Evil Code Veronica in stores now."

Obviously, the only reason anyone likes a female writer is because they want to bone her.
By which I mean: If I'd got drunk on a podcast and posted an apology on mine, I'd have got people being similarly supportive. Most people read your blog *because they're fans*. Would you have said that was based around wanting to fuck me? No, you bloody wouldn't.

Well, you're going to have to wait until I'm really drunk on a podcast. That doesn't happen more than once a twice a month.

I only read your blog because I want to fuck you. Have you seen yourself? Dreamy.
I'm only 1/2 way through the Leigh episode, she is obviously smart and has thought alot about the things she is talking about, she just needs to slow down and allow a conversation to happen around them. She had good insight into virtual worlds for instance (that the buzz around crap like 2Life is generated by people who have financial stake in them - "terrible people" as Vinnie or Jeff (hard to tell sometimes) kept saying ). But she refuses to let any air into the conversation and bulldozes her points into the ground. I also thought the RE sexuality thing was okay, and it could have been great, as a conversation. Not so interesting as a monologue by a drunken geek girl who squeeee wants to see her favoritist emo japanese game boys kiss in games.
I will report back when I've had a chance to listen to the rest.
Courage.
