Is there a way to look at skill trees and equipment without being in a game? Seems wasteful to sit there looking at everything and making long decisions while fighting. That's something i should be able to study beforehand and then just buy when in game.
Now I remember what I don't like about team games. There is always one player who plays ass first.
This time it was a Beast player who managed to score a grand total of 32 deaths (on an average of 7). Plowing into three enemy demigods without backup? No problem!
Nope. Somebody is going to have to get industrious and make one, I think. Snap a screenshot with the mouse hovering over each ability, maybe. That'll take a while, though. It's utterly crazy that the only way to see that info is to browse through it under fire, while the game is running.
Still, fun game. I tried the crystal level (the Prison) again, this time doing a 2v2 game on Normal with me playing the Rook, and won. The Rook is a blast to play, like a walking fortress. There are abilities that give him little nests of auto-firing archers on his shoulders, and you can set up your own lightning towers, and he is death incarnate against buildings. He also has a power where he rips a boulder out of the ground and then rolls it like a bowling ball at enemies, sending them flying. Funny. He's slow, though.
I mentioned that my game is a slideshow in the larger games (in single-player!) and Frank suggested that updating my audio and video drivers might be a good idea. I've searched high and low, does anyone know where to get the latest drivers for an ADI SoundMAX HD Audio integrated sound card? My current driver version is 5.10.0001.4530, apparently from May 2006.
I think my video drivers are fine though, I have nVidia drivers from like 2 months ago.
FWIW, the latest Nvidia update is from about two weeks ago, so that might help a bit.
Oh, I didn't realize. I'll update that and try it out again, but I can't believe there hasn't been a driver update for my sound card in 3 years/that I can't find it.
Game worked fine yesterday, today I ran the update in Impulse and it's locking up when I get past the intro movies.
Trying to look up stuff through Impulse or on the demigod forums and both are locking up and/or too slow in responding. Other websites and games are still working fine. :(
bah, and now I can't even log into Impulse.
same here- and finding an online game is a two step process:
step 1 : push "connect to game"
step 2: pull out book and read a few hundred pages
Although I have heard that the test servers are all that are up rightr now, so hopefully this will be fixed relatively quickly.
impulse ID: thornfalconeye if im not too new
I have the same issues as Harkonis et al. Seems their servers are still getting hammered. My nick change still hasn't gone through either. Hopefully fixed by tomorrow?
Hi guys. The servers are getting hammered but at least now it's legitimate users doing the hammering and not warez users (they're still relegated to the old server).
They're doing a combination of optimization and adding more servers so it should (I hope) be taken care of shortly.
For me it has already improved substantially, only the friends list is still broken (it can't find anyone).
Oh and I just came from a Pantheon match that was 2 vs 3 for some reason. Is that intentional?
Wow, this game really hates it when I skip the intro movies. It has frozen three times now in a row and the only time it didn't freeze was when I let the whole movie play out without touching anything.
So I have gained some favor points in single player, where do I spend those? I know they are separate from multiplayer. I plan on waiting a few days to allow the servers to even out.
I've only done single player, but the favor I accrue in single player has all been in the flashy F4 circle on the right side of the UI. Click that, buy new items or assign previous purchased items and voila!

Somebody should write a manual for this game. That PDF is like "Demigod is a game, mkay. There's these Demigods, and towers and stores. Here's how to set your video config. Good luck."
If your sound "card" is integrated into your motherboard (referred to as onboard audio), then you should check the motherboard manufacturer's website for an updated audio driver for that motherboard model. Failing that, Google "ADI SoundMAX HD Audio driver" and see if that leads you to newer drivers. It's always best, though, to get the drivers for onboard audio from the motherboard manufacturer.
I just killed my game and crashed it by using the Impulse overlay. :(
To people who are going to get this game, I would say hold off a week first.
It is a total mess now.
my single player is not even working at the moment- as the impulse service is apparently down.
but aside from these multiplayer issues hampering my experience of the full game, so far it seems fun.
It's not a "total mess" right now, thinkingork. It's a launch day. The two are related, but not identical.
A quick tip for folks with performance problems: trying disabling reverb under the audio options. I've got a vanilla Dell with onboard sound and updated drivers, but with reverb enabled, I get framerate stuttering such that the bigger battles are unplayable.
Cougar, you spend favor points by clicking on the far right hand slot for your consumable inventory items. I personally think this should be part of the metagame that you can fiddle with between matches, but right now, you can only examine and purchase favor items during a match. If you want to take time to consider your options -- which you should -- just start a game against an easy AI. Also, note that there are two tabs for favor items. One is general items and the other tab is specific to either generals or assassins.
And BTW, none of this is in the manual or explained anywhere in the game.

This is going to be a crazy request, but if anyone has tried to play this on a new model MacBook (2.0 GHz C2D and the 9400M chip) through Boot Camp, let me know how that goes. I'm very curious to try this out, and my MacBook is the most powerful system I own.
Thanks!
the polish level of hand holding make it seem like a mod still.
game itself is remarkably fun, but the wrapper around it is pretty lame.
no skill list and item list on menus to peruse, can't buy or look at favor items outside battles and sparse documentation or instructions. simple tooltips would have solved a lot of these problems. I fear it might scare away casual gamers. Already have plenty turned off by these things on other forums.
Of course it's made worse by the state of the servers today.
I think the reaction to Impulse demand/server loading issue is interesting when compared to the reaction to Steam suffering the same problems. I'm not sure if it's just by virtue of Steam having a larger audience, or if there is some indie/little guy shine/goodwill lingering around Impulse. Steam authentication related problems seem to spawn several very critical threads, where people throw around statements about not buying more steam products, hating authentication based drm, or switching to impulse, etc.
