Ya, i'm kinda this way too.

They have all the wow experience, they have the presale numbers, and they know the hype. I don't think there's much excuse for this because there's any number of alternative decisions they could have made to prevent this kind of thing from happening...

Well, I've never been in charge of launching a million-selling game...my guess is because it doesn't make a lot of sense to put tons of money into extra infrastructure for the one hour that is most likely the peak concurrent traffic that the game will ever see in it's lifetime. Just my guess.

I was actually in game, but was having some trouble getting vent to work, so I logged out of D3. Big mistake. Hahah.

Yup. While I think there's low hanging fruit to make the experience less shitty (don't make me manually resubmit my character creation request), the people who are invested enough to be dicking around with trying to get in at midnight aren't going to stop playing your games because they couldn't, and the problem basically sorts itself out to a more reasonable state after a few hours.

Then plan your launch in such a way that you dont have 5 million people hitting it at once. Or rent/retask hardware. or..

It's not like they have a game with 11M or so people on it, with regular new content, that they can use as some sort of test case...

Well, battle.net and forums are offline, so probably they went to the back to get some extra squirrels.

Then don't tell your customer it's going to be available at 12:01...

And now your website has gone down...

According to @BlizzardCS, all battle.net servers are in 'maintenance.' That might explain why suddenly I'm getting a 37 every single time, instead of sometimes getting Authentication and then stuck on Retrieving Hero List.

Played about an hour this morning without any problems. Very similar to my time in the beta so far, except firebats unlock at level 5 now. Can't wait to get to the fresh content, but it's going to have to wait until after work alas.

Did you genuinely believe you weren't going to see issues like this in the first hour? If so, I don't even know what to say to you. Oh wow, shit's busy on opening night, what a god damned fucking revelation. Yeah, it sucks. I want to be playing too. But it's also entirely expected if you have the slightest grasp of reality.

Yep, they've taken all the servers down for a fiddle about.

Amazing how a game launch like this regresses us all to being a bunch of yapping 8 year olds.

Just woke up briefly to pee, and got curious what's up in Tristram. Thank you Qt3 for allowing me to find out second-hand rather than personally! Going back to sleep now :-)

Yeah, starting to think a nice nap and then try to get in again in a few hours is the way to play it.

Yeah, I plan to call it at 1 if I can't get in, and maybe set my alarm for 5:30. I can get up, shower, go buy some breakfast, and spend a groggy, confused morning slaying my foes with poison frogs until I have to get to my first meeting. Poison motherfucking frogs!

On a bright note - Those that were against the always online portion of this game should feel justified that they had a pretty valid argument ;)

I would score 1 point for the always online naysayers.

Nope, expected blizzard to have a handle on it. Tell me, why shouldn't they have?

    Sales numbers - check.
control of the launch window - check.
Control of the beta - check.
    Stress test - check.
multi-million player, global, MMO experience - check.

I could go on, but i hope you see my point.

I'm not mad, but ya, i'm disappointed. I'm sure they'll get it all sorted, but still....I expected more from them.

Seems like my vid card or hard drive crashed. I am guessing vid card... getting strange visual artifacts on bootup, pre windows 7 launch... this sux.

Its not a new card... had it since 2009 GTX 285.

Somewhere between watching that video on youtube and alt tabbing to check on my D3 logon status srsly crashed my pc/vid card!

Except it's not like this wasn't foreseen. The first few hours were always gonna be rough. Just like every WoW launch and every power blackout ever, this will be forgotten as soon as it starts working again.

Oooo, "unable to create new hero due to party state"

Now the character creation screen is just sitting greyed out, but not timing out. I probably have to completely relog, but I am scared!
